Thank you for explaining your hardware inventory. You wouldn't believe the amount of videos where they are obsessed with the tool they are using and COMPLETELY forget to mention what type and size hardware they use. Very well explained.
"You can never go wrong with maple and walnut." -- Steve Carmichael, Feb. 2018
Words to live by! Nice project, Steve!
LOL, just speaking the truth! Thanks Dave!
Nice work, as usual, Steve. Some thoughts to enhance/improve the design:
1. Lag 'E' bracket to the wall for greater load capacity/security of mount. The addition of the walnut plate reduced the amount of bite the drywall screws had in the stud.
2. Flat head socket screws and tee-nuts vs. hex bolts and nuts for a cleaner look.
3. Nylon washers for easier articulation with less chance of squeaking.
I also wonder how the 'E' bracket would fair when made out of 3/4" plywood vs. a relatively softwood with a potentially challenging grain orientation.
Hi John, wow, thanks for the great suggestions. I think I can put your post up top somehow so others can benefit. I appreciate it.
I just stumbled across this video again. I don't know why but you seem like a very friendly and fun guy.
I'm never going to make this because I'm well too lazy. And my hands are too dang shaky nowadays. Still, I appreciate your mad skills and thank you for showing me @ 5:17 there is a way to make counter sink holes in two steps instead of dealing with breaking one-step counter sink bits every so many uses. Nice mount and beautiful use of the walnut accents. Definitely pro.
Very cool Steve and I like the a contrast of walnut with the maple. The colors look great.
Thank you Elesix! Hope you have a good rest of the week!
I really like this simple project but I especially like your great attitude, especially when things go wrong. I make a lot of mistakes in the shop so I can use your example as motivation to look for the positive in every situation. Thanks!
Thanks! That's a big compliment. I like to think of mistakes as chances to make it better. Even if I have to just cut a piece again, it's a chance to cut it better or choose a better piece of material.
The 2 woods do look great together! great job
Yes, they always do. I need to use those more.
Very Nice, love the contrast between Wallnut and Maple
Thanks Craig! Yeah, it came out looking much fancier than I originally planned it.
The accents add heaps of character & good thing you had to remake the pivoting arm to highlight the walnut contrast, cheers from Australia 🔨🔨👍👍
Thanks! Yes, I like how it looks...better than my original all maple plan.
I am looking forward to making this tomorrow.
Awesome! I still use this and it works great. One thing I would change is to make the bracket on the wall taller so more screws can be used to secure it to the wall. It likes to twist a little.
Pretty nice! I like the walnut accents too!
Thanks! All of the walnut pieces were add-ons from my original plan, but make it look fancy.
Just what I've been looking for Steve - thanks for sharing
Great project!!!! regards from Colombia.
Nice work. If you need more strength in the E you could drill holes from the backside for a dowel as reinforcement. 👍
That's a great idea! Good suggestion. Thanks!
Your enthusiasm is infectious. Keep it up!
Walnut accents look awesome! Great idea!
Thanks Brian!
Nice one Steve and love that contrast between the Maple and Walnut i think you said. Hope you and the family are well.
Barry (ENG)
Hi Barry - Thank you! Yes, it does look nice with the maple and walnut. All is well here. Hope all is well there!
Hey that turned out just fantastic!
Hey Mike! Thanks! It works great and it's just the right size for that area. How is the mining going?
Really nice and awesome work. it would be nice if you'd sell these cutout parts for those who are not handy with wood working. I can build a PC from scratch but can't cut clean wood pieces.
Hey Steve, Great project! I will have to make one for my shop now. My favorite combo of wood also. Nice job. Thank you. David
Fabulous project Steve! Definetly going to make one for my laptop before it gets knocked off my table saw outfeed table!
Hi Mark!!! Look at you with the shirt and tie icon pic. Looking good! I got tired of having to clear a spot for the laptop. Now I can pile stuff on top of it. lol
Perfect timing Steve. I need to make a shop laptop stand for my virtual live demo setup. Thanks for the pdf plans.
Hi Mike! Glad you could use the idea. It's working great so far.
I made my arms a bit longer since I needed to swing the laptop directly behind my lathe. The arms were longer than yours and the whole thing was too flexible to support a laptop and drooped. I was able to salvage the wall mount and arms to hold a 19" gooseneck for my webcam over the lathe. I made a laptop stand on an old chair base.
Great idea. I really like the walnut accents. A couple of suggestions, ditch the stop screw and replace it with a walnut dowel. Also if the hinge joints ever squeak, a little linseed or tung oil mixed with bees wax will cure that. Since you don'/t have wood on wood that might not be an issue. I built a scissors extension arm for a light with dowels for hinge pins that needed that. Based on a video by Ronald Walters.
Cool, thanks for sharing your tips with us. It hasn't squeeked yet. I have it kind of tight so it has some friction to it. I like the dowel stop idea, so I may replace the screw now that I know it's in the right spot.
Reminds me of the one Laney made for his monitor. Nice work Steve!
Oh yeah, he did make one a while back. I miss Laney's videos. Says he's going to be doing some more soon. I'll nudge him at the woodworking show in a couple weeks. lol
Steve Carmichael Yea I miss him too. You give him a nudge for yourself and a kick for me - haha. He stays so busy with his work and traveling he barely has any time.
Nice looking and very functional project! Alway love seeing how different woods accent each other.
Thanks Mike! Yeah, the walnut looks great and it wasn't even in my original plan.
That's a nice addition to your shop, Steve!
Thanks! It's nice to have a dedicated spot for the laptop.
Nice project Steve. I can see one of those in my shop in the not too distant future. Thanks for sharing.
Hey Paul! It's working out great. I need to fasten it to the wall with some stronger bolts. It wiggles a little, but works well.
Awesome idea Steve! I just got a new workbench and have been trying to think of a way to do just this. Definitely gonna use this!
Hey Jake! Thanks! I like how it turned out. I wasn't sure if I should attach it to the bench or the wall. I can always move it though.
Well friend, the video is so good that I have subscribed to your channel, I think you deserve an award from the Royal Academy of Woodworkers ...
Thanks Steve - from a cold and snowy Ireland ☘️☘️☘️
Hello Pat in snowy Ireland! It's finally warming up here. Ready for Spring. Hope it warms up for you there soon.
Really nice idea Steve. Id be too worried the computer would look like the rest of my shop... covering in dust haha
It's a cheap used laptop off ebay, so I'm ok with it getting dusty. I will throw a cover on it when not using it though.
thank you! that's such a nice build.
capo total, saludos desde Argentina
Awesome build! Curious to know, what is the max weight capacity on that mount? Not interested on putting a laptop on it but instead some bookshelf speakers for my garage. Long story short on to why? For summer cookouts, I can just open the single garage door that opens up into backyard and thus I can swivel the speakers through the opening.
I like the speaker mount idea. It would work, but you would want to beef up the wood and wall mount some to hold the weight of the speakers.
Very nice Steve. Great small project!
Hi Felix! Thanks! Hope all is well in Nebraska!
Very nice work and idea Steve.
Thank you Robert!
Thank you for posting this project, it is just what I was looking for!
Great looking, functional project you have there, Steve! Nicely done indeed.
Thank you Dwight! It works great. I like that it's small and out of the way, but puts the laptop where I need it at different angles.
Great idea Steve, I was going to make something to put my laptop next to my cnc laser. so I may use your idea
Hey Paul! Go for it. It is much better than having to set up a table or clear off part of a bench to make room for the laptop.
Great idea & excellent work Steve! I agree that you can't go wrong with the Maple/Walnut combo........ :)
Thanks! Sapele is nice too!
great project Steve - thanks
Hey Lynn! Thanks!
Excellent work Sir. Just the thing I was looking for. Thank you.
I like it Steve. Well done!
Thanks!

Hi James! Thanks!
Good looking stand, Steve.
Hey Steve! Thank you!

Great project Steve! I think I will have to have a go at something similar myself. thanks for sharing
Thanks John! Hope it helps. Wish I had made this a long time ago.
Truly fantastic, excellent idea. Greetings from Italy
Hello Giuseppe in Italy! I hope to visit there someday.
Turned out great, Steve!
Thanks!
Thanks Buddy. Very neat
Great job! That was definitely a happy mistake as adding those accents really make it pop.
Thanks Dale! It turned out looking more classy than I had planned, for a shop project. It works great and is just the right size.
Nice project Steve! I just may make one for myself! Thanks for the plans.
Thanks Jim! Hope you can use the plans. I like this one because it's small and fits the area well and I can move it to any angle I need.
Great video Steve and great looking project!
Thanks!
Awesome work
Nice job Steve!
Hey Jim! Thanks! Looks like you changed your logo and name. Cool!
Love the accent support piece idea
Thanks! Yeah, it turned out looking pretty neat.
nice job!
Hey Tim! Thanks man!
thank you for sharing the pdf for free .. i really appreciated
I like it...to bad i dont have a laptop, but with a small mod on it, tablet would be at home on it. Great look to it with walnut and maple....👍
Thank you Robert! I got the laptop used off ebay just for the CNC and shop. It's crazy how low price they are these days.
awesome as always Steve.
Thanks Mike!
superb design thanks for the awesome plan
Thank you! Hope you can use the plan.
Swingy Out laptop = awesome... really cool idea! 🌲🦊🌲💗
Thanks! When I was done, I just stood there swinging it around. lol I should have put that in the video. It's kinda fun.
Looks great, Steve!

Hey steve,,thanks for the good idea.I just made one for myself.
Hi Shaun! That's so cool! Mine is still working out great. I had to put some longer screws into the wall, but that's the only change I made. Glad you could make one too!

Thanks David!
Thumbs up! I like your style!
Nice Project!
Thank you Dietrich!
Very cool Steve I'm sure a lot of people have already suggested their fixes for the E piece so I'll shut up
Thanks! Yeah, got a few suggestions on that. I need to get a welder and just make a metal one.
Awesome! Going to use this idea for a camera mount, to capture lathe footage. I been looking for a solution, thank you.
-Steven
Cool! That's an interesting idea. I could use that too. This one is next to my lathe but I might make another for above it. hmm good suggestion!
Very nice.
Thanks!
wow thats cool, nice job, keep up the good work, and the vids, love watching them.
Thanks Robbi!
Amazing my friend
Thank you sir!
Hi, how has this held up over time?
Nice job, starving youngun! Looks like you been out boating because the ice melted in Hotlanta since you looks like you is FRIED! Frost here last night but 40's usually. Everything is budding out to get ZAPPED again! Stay cool, Pal!
Hey Lewie! It was in the 40s this morning. It's been in the 70s which was nice. Spring is coming soon. You stay cool too!
Done with firewood today and will start mowing when the rain stops. Been in the 40's but frost this morning. Pretty sure it';s laying up for a BIG one. It usually does. Remain calm and keep on starving! Us old starved boys is the happiest!
Ha ha, it has snowed here in March before and shut down the state. lol Hope not this year.
I've seen snow on dogwood blooms but not in a while BUT you never can tell! GBWYou, Palley!
Love it!
Great Steve 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks Giovanni!
As Always, A Great Video !
Thank you!!!
Would MDF be a good option or is it too flimsy for something like this? Wood planks and blocks are kinda expensive where I'm from and I don't rly that much of a budget.
Not MDF, but plywood would probably work.
Nice! I enjoyed that mate, thanks for sharing!
Thank you Mark!
Very cool
Thanks John!
Great video thanks for Sharing the idea
Thank you very much!
Steve Carmichael thank you for subscribe to my channel 👍
Really Kool project with a K
Thank you with a K. :)
Hey Steve how big is your CNC machine?
Hi Bekim - It's the 1000mm one. The cutting area is about 31" x 31".
Hey Steve love your videos, what software do you use for creating your templates and cut sheets?
Thanks! I used Microsoft Visio, only because I've been using it for 25 years. I just like how it has a graph paper style canvas and you can draw everything to scale.
I'll have to look into Visio, I've never used it but I always love the way your templates look.
great job m8!
Thank you!
smack!@#$ Right out of the ball park on this one! I need to make one of these and you took out all of the guess work.... NICE!!!!!!
Hey Brian! Thanks, glad you liked it. It works great. I wish I had made it a long time ago.
