    Great explanations and suggestions Gary! It's amazing how Apple has been able to integrate tools like markup so seamlessly across devices. But it we really need and appreciate you and these tutorials to actually show the rest of us how to use them! 👍

    I love using the markup tool. When I need heavy editing on my architect pictures I pay an outside editor, so I send them bunch of RAW images of the same subject, but the difference is the time of the day the images were taking, so I give them instructions of what I want remove, add or change by pointing out and writing on it. I hope this makes sense

    Thanks for the great tips. I have been using SnagIt for years and the markup tools in that app are great too. Plus there are many additional tools like Edge Effects, Stamps. Number Steps and Blur.
    But for free, the Markup tools in macOS are pretty good.

    Thank you very much, Gary for this and all of your other regular in-depth presentation(s). I have just switched from Windows to Mac and I continue to deal with the associated challenges. Having transferred all of my (thousands) of photographs from my PC to the Mac 'Photos' apps, I am no longer able to sort these jpegs by the names that I had given them in the Windows environment. Also and whilst I am able to add/amend 'locations' and 'dates', I do not know what to best enter under the 'Title' and the 'Caption' headings to allow my photos to be sorted in a meaningful way. I would be grateful if you would consider producing a video on these topics and maybe also on what 'delete', 'hide 1 photo' and 'cut' really means in the Mac Photos app. All more complex than in the Windows environment. Thanks again.

    Hi Gary, I love your tips. So well explained! Thank you so much. Can I ask you something about Markup? Is there a way to outline the text? Cheers, Carol.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Год назад

      Can you explain what you mean by outline? Do you mean add annotated text in "outline" style (hollow letters with a border), or do you mean something else like highlighting? There is an easy way to highlight if you look at the tools in the toolbar.

    • @carolglover4
      @carolglover4 Год назад

      @@macmost Hi Gary, thanks for your reply. I mean, to put an outline around letters, and do the creative things you can do with letters that you can do with the editing tools in Pages. When you say you can highlight text, do you mean add a shadow (the last option in shape style)? I can't see anything else.

    • @macmost
      @macmost  Год назад +1

      @@carolglover4 So with markup text all you can do is bold, italic and underline. Maybe if I understood what you were trying to accomplish I could help. Markup is really mean for annotating things. If you want to design something of your own, you should do it in an app like Pages.

    Hi Gary!
    Can I place a photo - on a photo on Mac, using Preview or Markup?
    I have a old map photo and want to place a new map image on top of it (to show the changes over time). Is there a way to do this using opacity?

    • @macmost

      Not in Preview, no. Any image editing app can do it. Photoshop of course, but Pixelmator, Acorn, etc. Just put the other image in a layer on top and set the opacity of that layer to some %.

    How do you reduce the size of a photo below 2mb, to use it as a thumbprint photo on a YT video?

  • @johnvender
    @johnvender Год назад

    I've noticed that now in Ventura Photos crop function I no longer have the rotate capability on the right hand side of the photo but have Straighten, Vertical and Horizontal top right which are useful but rather quirky. I miss the old rotate. Of course, I can use Gimp or other apps to free rotate but it's a pain.

      Straighten IS rotate. Same thing.

    • @johnvender
      @johnvender Год назад

      @@macmost yes, but I find it's a lot more quirky, it tends to zoom in and revert is the only way to go back. Same with Vertical and Horizontal, really annoying. I'm probably missing something :)

    Can you use the Apple Pencil with a Mac trackpad, and the iPhone? I know it can be used with the iPad...

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 года назад +1

      No. The Apple Pencil is a special precision device that connects to special hardware on the iPad. You can get a cheap "stylus" for the iPhone (just acts like your finger) if you like. But it won't be nearly as precise as an Apple Pencil.

    Great video! Thank you. Very helpful hints for the many features for editing photos on your iPad, iPhone or Mac. But can you tell me WHY Apple refuses to add a ‘partial background remover or eraser’ to the editing tools? In order to do that one must purchase a photo editing app and I refuse to pay another cent after spending thousands already on Apple products. It can’t be that difficult to add this feature. Come on, Apple…enough already!

    • @macmost
      @macmost  2 года назад

      I don't think Windows has this either. It is a pretty advanced feature. You asked "why" and as a software developer myself, I can tell you that there are always new features to add. You have to draw the line somewhere. Getting third-party apps to do the things you need is part of using any computer and always has been. You'll get more value from your Mac if you get the apps you need to get your work done.
