This really is the perfect channel for beginners to gain a ton of knowledge getting into hobby farming. My wife and I are about to move to a new house (central NY) that has 27 acres... and I can't wait to get some chickens, and get a garden going next year... I've been doing a ton of research and reading everything I can get my hands on, but you guys are what I like to have playing while I'm at work. Great channel.
27 acres in NY would be awesome! I’m glad you found the channel and hope we can help. Let us know if there are topics you are interested in that we haven’t addressed!
Ive got the garden growing for the animals lol animals doing much of the work The cover crop of oats and sunflower seeds is coming up well And all the animals love that :) The rabbits bedding that goes on the gardens is great :)
My plan is to eventually maintain a flock of 25 dual purpose birds. My coop is 16' wide x 8' deep. One guy said it was too big but my logic is build bigger now rather than add on later. Your thoughts?
The size coop you have is about twice the size you need for 25 birds. The main problem with having a coop too big is that it becomes harder for the chickens to stay warm in really cold environments. It is nice to have extra space however, since most flocks end up being larger than we plan. 😁 I would close off part of the space until it is needed. If you are in a warmer environment, I wouldn’t worry about being too big. Or you could just plan for a larger flock!!
I'm a new chicken owner and would like some advise. Which of these can I feed my chickens? And can they be feed raw, cooked or spouted or either way? Rice, Pinto Beans, Flaxseed, Oatmeal, Wheat Grain, Meal worms, cracked corn. Any other foods I can feed them would be appreciated. Thank you
All of these can be fed to chickens, though beans should always be cooked first. I wouldn’t feed kibble recommend a balanced layer feed with these others being fed as a treat to make up no more than 10% of their food intake.
@HobbyFarmGuys thank you for your advice. There's a lot of conflicting suggestions/advice out there, but I've found you two to be very knowledgeable. Thanks again.
Too much too soon oops i should have watched this a bit ago and i need to stay out of the market place lol...we are learning lots but i should have watched the turkey video warning about turkeys perching on your roof...lol good thing i get along with my neighbor his roof is lower ;) lol We put netting on their run but what about winter? I have a breeding pair we plan on keeping around Need to wrestle some turkeys and clip some wings ;) Much love xoxox great playlist
@@HobbyFarmGuys something keeps falling through the top netting Turkeys are definitely different from chickens:) They are a challenge but cool to have around First time I had to catch Tom was crazy Yes turning him upside down really works but even a small turkey is heavy lol it was pretty funny

I absolutely will, but I want to make sure I watch all your videos so I'm not asking about something you've already covered.
With all of your chicken highlights I’m going to be guilty of getting to many. When my wife asks I will be sure to blame it on you guys. 😜
We'll take the blame. Time to start watching the turkey spotlights!
@@HobbyFarmGuys That could turn into trouble… 😂
Helped me so much thanks keep up the good work

@@HobbyFarmGuys Thank you....I will partition part of it off until it is needed.
Good to know! This is the exact size I was going to build this spring. Now I know to make it with a divider! Thank you!
Love the intro guys
Thanks!

Clipping wings is a good idea. Keep us updated on progress.
