FOW is back! another great vid guys! I actually started playing FOW, Star Wars Legion/Xwing, and Team Yankee b/c of your cool vids. Along with Beasts of War and the Acceptable casualties, you videos helped me understand how to be a good FOW player
That's great Joe! Summer has been crazy and schedules really haven't aligned for a lot of filming but we should be back to a more consistent schedule by Sept. Realistically I'm luck to film 2-3 battle reports on a good month, I'd like one per month to be FOW/Team Yankee.
Excellent battle report people. One question however, you call the 88mm tank hunters “hornesees”. Why, they were known by the Germans as “Nashorns”, which means, rhinoceros.
Very interesting matchup. Small amounts of superheavy German armour vs a lot of small US glass cannons and a jeep swarm. Deliberately making this comment longer so I can talk about the result without it being a spoiler for anyone who scrolls down early. Wow, I was expecting those Greyhounds to just get hosed off the board early, but they were able to overwhelm the infantry and basically show their arse at the German armour because there were so many of them. I think it's kind of wonderful that in a late war setting where BIG TANKS are the norm that you can make a viable (hell, winning) list out of smaller lighter choices. I do have one rules question while I'm here. I've been reading the rulebooks and the LFTF faqs. They say if a tank is destroyed you leave the wreck on the table (which I love, makes the battle visual and provides cover). They also say that when a tank fails a Last Stand that it is counted as destroyed. Now the letter of the rules suggest you leave the tank as a wreck, because the crew abandoned it. Which makes sense. But in this battle you guys were removing the lone tanks that failed their Last Stand, as if the drivers retreated. Which also makes sense. So my question is, is there an OFFICIAL rule on this? Or is it a house rule/player preference thing?
Page 81 of the Version 4 rulebook explains that when a unit fails a Last Stand check, the unit counts as "destroyed." It then clarifies that previously destroyed tanks remain and bailed out tanks are destroyed as wrecks while all remaining teams (i.e. active tanks) are removed.
It was an interesting match up as we didn't talk about it much before hand but I think I have the better part of the match up. The Armored Car platoons with jeeps give you the best of both worlds. If you take a heavy high AT hit swap it to the Jeep for a 4+ save, small arms, swap it to the Armored car and most fire will bounce off. You really need to concentrate on one platoon at a time and put lots of dice into it to make it go *poof*. The Germans just didn't have a high volumn of shoots except for the Whirbles and I kept my armored cars far away from them on purpose. On the Active tanks leaving Thimas is Correct, I imagine those active tanks take a look at the situation and decide that discretion is the better part of valor and drive away. And I do agree there is something visually appealing with a battlefield full of wrecks after a well fought battle.
Ah, thanks Thomas, looking back I can see what I misread. Now I got it. I do like the V4 mistaken target rules, as you point out it's good to be able to swap those hits (or at least try to do so). Definitely also an advantage in not upgrading all teams in a unit so you have some weaker "volunteers" to try and take the first hits while the more expensive unit keeps on fighting. Plus it's always nice to have a bit of variety, say... a mix of short and long barrel tanks rather than all being the same, or as in this case a jeep/armoured car mix. Just looks and feels nicer, and I'm more about the aesthetic than the rules, but hey if it comes with a little side advantage then that's gravy.
Very good work my friend and good explanation very interesting for me I love the wargames Very nice figures I enjoy watching your video this is a pleasure for the eyes 😎👍 I am subscribed of France And I would be proud to have you as subscriber too 👍
When the US troops assaulted the one Wirbelwind... was the Jagdpanther not within 8 inches? I would have figured it would have conducted defensive fire too.
when the infantry fired at the wirbel the wirbel was in LONG RANGE (how much i can judge from here) for the infantry. So the side armor of 1 should have been a 2 as long range gives a +1 to armor. if it was short range than my bad.
If i recall correctly, technicly you cannot attach infantry teams to gun teams due to stupid morale limitations which require unit to be composed purely of one type (purely gun teams or infantry teams).
I think so but I couldn't find anything in the FAQ or books I had. Technically I imagine you would treat the Bazooka teams as a separate Platoon once on the table but without a definitive answer I erred on the the side of caution and used the more restrictive interpretation and made everyone stick together. I would have loved to take the Bazooka section out Cat hunting and leave the guns behind.
Great batrep and unusual armies. But that last Hornisse in the field would have to move to shoot, not just free spin. That is the downside of not having a turret. But he could have tried to blitz. BTW the chance of 6 sixes in a row on a die 6 are 0.01286%. Hmm decision at the end not to drive over hedge and contest on the right, with a follow me if needed seems strange. Also machine gun those jeeps up close to get rid of them. And where is the luck card for those failed FP tests? ;-)
I am new to WOF, but I have seen a lot of your Battle Reports and it seems to me that the point system favors the United States and the British forces... I have not seen once where German wins over the US or the British It is possible that the German tanks are stronger and have higher quality, but the US and British forces get so many more tanks and stof for the same amount point that the quantity far exceeds the small advantage the German tanks have. It's a great game, it's just a bit boring to know that when you play german ws. us ... it's good bye Fritz !! before the game even started I really admire your son for the high morale, he faithfully put he's forces up to become "cannon food" again and again. Many thanks for showing and please keep up the good work ;-)
These are late war armies and the Germans already had a hard time matching the sheer numbers of the allies in that phase. The comparison I thank was that for one tiger tank you had to produce 10 sherman tanks. The Germans had formidable tanks and good crews but not the numbers anymore.
After playing FOW for many years, V4 is horrible. We stayed with V3 and made some small adjustments. Team Yankee works so much better with the new rules and I'm diving into that as FOW has died in the Northeast US. Thanks for the great videos Jon.
Curious, Team Yankee is so close to V4, what don't you like about it? I find the rule set solid, the army building is pretty pale compaired to the depth of the V3 books. I plan on keeping V3 late war books and V4 rules.
They stripped away many of the flavor of the different nations being the biggest. The whole “good spirits” rules (even in TY) are horribly biased towards the Soviets. At least in TY you don’t have the terrible sole survivor rule on a tank team. V4 killed FOW in the northeast US. Sad.
Love the FOW reports! Keep them coming!
I just started FOW and these really help understanding the game. Thank you.
Glad we could help!
thank you for the good battle.

BTW, I played an AOLW Tournament with Tom Burgess, Joe Lewis, Ed Helms, and many other seasoned FOW vets (I got 7/14)

Nice! Cool armies. Lovely to see a new face on the show as well!
Yay, FOW is back!
"One of them brought snow with them from The Bulge" lol
Mid war avanti please. Or just some more midwar period. So glad you guys are back doing FLAMES stuff
Real excited for some LW action

more of this plz
4:47 if I was running any allied armour, I'd have the same reaction.

might have been, I can't remember exactly. We might have just forgot or the Hedge might have blocked LOS.

They were short range, barely. Rifle teams have a range of 16" so can't shoot at long range even if they wanted to. Thanks for watching!
I don't get it! Why wouldn't the German armor just roll over the US scout cars, jeep, and infantry.

What is the markers for destroyed tanks made off? Is that something you made yourself?
Home made, Woodland Scenics clump foliage, Super glue and a paper clip support structure. then just painted black and red.
All Miniatures Great and Small ah okay, it looks like cotton. Is there any nice tutorial for this?

Anyone else get anxiety and would throw away those black dice? Lol
How much would a diaroma like this cost
Not really a diorama but just ball parking it I would say that including the gaming Mat there is about 200-300 bucks of terrain on this table.
@@AllMiniaturesGreatandSmall noice as I have a budget of around 200 pounds so might be able to make a similar sized one heheh
Besides from the matt you can easily make it yourself
Hold up pck40 have a artillery bombardment

Sometimes the Jagdpanther had better used the MG. Bazooka has in cc only AT 4
4 sixes in a row!
He rolled even more in that chain off camera, when i made some movement orders, it was pretty hilarious.
Yay at last
Yup, delyed reserves in FoW is just as annoying in Team Yankee. Oi...
