Lyrics
Ah, ha, ha
Oh-oh, yeah
'Til you work
Somebody told me
"Boy, everything she wants is everything she sees"
I guess I must have loved you
Because I said you were the perfect girl for me
Baby, and now we're six months older
And everything you want, and everything you see
Is out of reach, not good enough
I don't know what the hell you want from me, oh
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Somebody tell me, oh
Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money
Work to give you money (oh)
Some people work for a living
Some people work for fun
Girl, I just work for you
They told me marriage was a give-and-take
Well, you've shown me you can take, you've got some giving to do
And now you tell me that you're having my baby
I'll tell you that I'm happy if you want me to
But one step further and my back will break
If my best isn't good enough, then how can it be good enough for two?
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
I can't work any harder than I do (la, la, la, la, la)
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Somebody tell me, oh
Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
Aw, why do I do the things I do?
Tell you if I knew
My god, I don't even think that I love you (la, la, la, la, la)
Won't you tell me?
Give you money
Work to give you money (oh-ah)
Ah, oh, yeah
Tell me
Tell me
How could you settle for a boy like me
When all I could see was the end of the week?
All the things we sign, and the things we buy
Ain't gonna keep us together, it's just a matter of time
My situation never changes walking in and out of that door
Like a stranger for the wages
I give you all, you say you want more
And all I could see was the end of the week
All the things we sign, and the things we buy
Ain't gonna keep us together
Girl, it's just a matter of time
Work, work
Work, work
La, la, la, la, la (just a matter of)
Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
La, la, la, la, la
Somebody tell me, oh
Won't you tell me? (Somebody)
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
Somebody tell me, whoa-oh
Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
Somebody tell me
Won't you tell me? (Oh, please tell me...)
Why I do the things that I do
Give you money
Work to give you money (oh) Видеоклипы

Me always😂. Till the day I die🤟🤘
At least once a month until my last breath.
RIP George Michael (June 25, 1963 - December 25, 2016), aged 53
You will be remembered as a legend.
❤Wow was he ever young when he passed❤perpetual light shine on your soul George❤
Sad. That's the age I am now and it's definitely not enough time.
Nooo doubt george is a true legend
😢George's Birthday was in June and now July😢😢oh shit!!!
When I was ten years old, I thought this was the best Wham song.
In my mid 20s, I still thought this was the best Wham song.
In my late 30s, I remained confident that this was the best Wham song.
Closing in on 50 years old, nothing has changed... This is still the best Wham song!
(Among many great ones...)
Agreed ❤
My fav too!
Definitely 🎉
my fav is kissing a fool... i like the jazz in that
@@cristianmicu sorry but this song is not a wham!’s song it’s a George Michael ´s song
At that time, it was hard to believe that two young men, could make music and lyrics at that level.
Nothing to envy musicians with more experience.
The bass in this song is phenomenal.
yes you're right, a Moog Phatty bassline.
Most great songs do ❤
Yeah you gotta drop D if you wanna play it on a bass.
That is only a good sign
Y la percusión expectacular
He was in Paris when he did everything for this song,,every instrument ...
I wonder who was bleeding George then. He's singing what he's feeling. Also, George gave millions upon millions to help his fellow man. Truly missed.
George Michael will be missed
But his music will live on forever
RIP Sir
How can a 20-21 years old guy can write such fine and mature lyrics. He had everything.
He was way ahead of his age plus genius
@@thestrangestthing5452 He was also a gay man writing about a complex predicament a lot of straight (and gay) men find themselves in. At 20.

Best times
Yes, it has been downhill since
Absolutely!
When making minimum wage was fun!
We had a radio on & we all sang along working on the line.
Absolutely 👍
“My god I don’t even think that I love you” bro that sounded so good it brings a tear to my eye
That has to be one of the most soul-crushing things you can say to a person. Savage.
LOL!
That's my favorite part of the song.

Miss you George xxx RIP angel x

The man. The master. The voice. RIP from all of us 80's children.

And now 2019 and this song is fantastic!❤️
1984- I was 16 and no car, wanted so badly to see Wham in concert. Instead just cranked the big RCA console in living room and pretended I was there. Awesome music…RIP George
same here, 16 in ‘84. what a great time it was
There's no one like George Michael. What an epic performer he was.
Да, НЕТ никого лучше ..❤❤❤
And I love you for it

And Andrew Ridgeley Seems many postings forget to mention “the other guy” in the video.
Andrew, yes, no Wham without him, he had to push and plod GM into doing it. GM, shy and not real confident, Andrew coaxed him into it as a friend. THANK YOU, ANDREW!!❤❤😂❤❤

There will never be a cover band ..........NO ONE can come close to sounding like Mr. George Michael.
This is one of the best pop songs ever written and produced.
I don't care what George (or anyone else) said about Wham but this is the masterclass of pop.
Simple, infectious, polished, sophisticated, groovy and flawless vocals.
A masterpiece!
Definitely not pop,But border line R&B...Like so many 80's & 90' bands
George from culture club wud he say?
@@lilkumquat2008 No! George Michael himself distanced himself often from his past career with WHAM!

At the time, the LP Wham: Make It Big was in every household's collection of vinyl's along wit the staple, Thriller.

Andrew working those coat tails is awesomeness.
He, like so many singers from that time, had such pure raw talent and charisma! No autotune needed whatsoever. Continue to R.I.P. Legend
very much that, real musician that could really play instruments and produce the sound he wanted forget about the amazing singing he was all around MUSICIAN!

This has been my favourite song for many years, it never gets old.
Can you imagine having during the same time both Wham and tears for fears lol
Only in 2020's you realize how lucky that generation was artistically.
Never.
It's so sad, though.
I can tell you that I first heard this song at I believe 26 years old or I remember having it on CD playing it over and over and over and I’m pretty certain that this one’s dedicated to queen bee

Im a rocker too but it's good to recognize good music and George Michael was a genius 👌
@@TheStepmonkey thank you, roc boy
This song is so awesome. It has such a groovy disco/pop vibe to it. Sounds like it could have been #1 on the charts in 1979.
Nah, their sound was totally pop 80s. The seventies was disco. They weren't ready for this in 79.....
George has an insane amount of soul in music.
This songs always a pleasure too listen to. George Michael's voice was amazing, Wham and his solo works are so good. RIP 💜💖

The golden era of music 👍
It was fun times..I was a kid but I loved this song
Michael whipped this off one night on a synth and drum program, wrote up some unusually serious lyrics, and bam (or, Wham!), another #1 hit. The best song of the Wham! era, certainly. Ya know, we didn't take this guy too seriously back then, and yet one of the better pop song writers of the 20th century was under our radar. Amazing. Sorry he died so young. 53 is young, and most of us have cardiomyopathy in our 50s. But for the grace of god go the rest of us. This guy, who wrote some of the music to my youth, was only 5 years older than me, and now I'm as old as he was when he died. Time is a river. But good music is eternal.
"most of us have cardiomyopathy in our 50s" No, you just took the shot.

Rest in Paradise, Georgie!
So many artists pretend that they are the classic 'tortured' creator and that what they create is therefore the product of some impossible and unique process. In George's case he really was the tortured artist feeling obliged to pretend his songs were driven by regular boy-girl angst. But in pretending he produced real angst for himself and led to lyrics and music of real depth and memorability. He was the true tortured genius.
This song is underrated.George was a genius, wrote and produced this smash ( and so many others) with no formal music training.
so effing true....master of pop songwriting at an extremely young age ..only 21 here....wrote knew you were waiting at 22 and managed at that age to snag Aretha Franklin..George was dazzlingly talented...unfortunately his demons, his ability to disclose his sexuality, and the treatment from the media led to his downfall and his talent although still amazing definitely was not as sharp as his early days..I like everything he did for the most part , but there was a noticeable drop off when he was going 100 mph......we are all human, but in his prime he was able to be in the conversation with the brightest pop stars of the 80s...he wrote his stuff too which is that much more impressive. one of my alltime favorite artists.
@Gene Connor ?
@Gene Connor I hope you have a nice day :)
@Gene Connor worry about yourself
@Gene Connor he's underrated to people of this generation. Kids these days only know of Michael Jackson, Elvis , prince, the Beatles, Queen etc but WHAM or George Michael u ask them they won't know. You can show me how many awards they got cause I already know everything about WHAM and so many other artists. the person who commented before wasn't even talking trash about them, Ive been around so many random people or places and no one would know any older artists only some like I named in the beginning
George was absolutely the man even with Wham. You could tell he was destined for greatness.
RIP this amazingly talented and beautiful person. ❤️
Its crazy his friend gave him his confidence n then he outgrew him with his talent. Its kinda sad his best friend had to let him go to become the mega star he was destined to become
Love this man, this music. Never gets old. RIP George. You are truly missed.
An angel gone back to Heaven, 6 years ago today (Christmas Day 2022) Sir Giorgios Kyriacos Panayiotou (25 June 1963 - 25 December 2016). He died of a broken heart (Literally heart failure)... to our solace, he's with his first love now and he's truly happy, at long last. 💯
You never know what you got until he/she's gone for good... George Michael was one of those rare talents that defines the 80-90's music. Sadly, he's now viewing us from above. Please honour his achievements and celebrate his 53 years of life in positive ways.

yep! what a sound it had coming over the radio! so fresh, so exciting! what a pop rock sensation he was! and to think he wrote, produced, and sang nearly every single song he released - and if he didn't write it, he performed it better (like Was Not Was' Where Did Your Heart Go?, Bonnie Raitt's I Can't Make You Love Me, and, Rufus Wainright's Going to a Town)
This was my jam also back in the day. I was 14 and I couldn’t stop playing this song. Any of Whams songs

53 year old black male checking in. Back in the mid ‘80s pop music was what was popular, SHOCKER !! And Hip-Hop for the masses was at its birth. And in an era where MTV ruled !! And to top it off, cable TV was at its early stages. My family went from 5 channels on an antenna to more than I could absorb. I loved it, as well as my siblings. Great memories, but I digress. When I first saw a WHAM videos its was wake me up. We all knew that George was gay. This was when calling someone a f*ggot wasn’t that much out of line. But his sexuality, like boy George, didn’t matter….Because they are talented and true Artist. And if you think that Faith isn’t one of the greatest albums you’re mad. He made an impact and is a 1 of 1. Will always appreciate you sir !

Then came the 90s (the second-ish best behind the goated 70s decade because soul music is 10/10) Nas and Jay were dropping F8ggot all the time in their songs lol. Same with countless other legends (RIP Big L 🙏).
Also this is a factual take. Hip-Hop in the 80s is and was shit. It *ALWAYS* will be tbh.
Edit: I can’t get into Hip-Hop in the 80s it’s like nails on a chalkboard or scraping a metal fork on a plate…it’s irritating and annoying.
Man you could just not go anywhere without hearing the most unforgettable songs and seeing the most talented artists of our lives in the early to mid 80's. Am I right?

Back in 80s, I went to his concert at Chicago. Everybody stood up dance and sang all of his songs. It was a good time.
Reminds me of being a teenager in the 80s ❤ GM
It's still so difficult to listen and watch his videos, i can't let him go. I was born in 76 so i grew up with Wham, with posters of them on me bedroom wall. He had always been an ever present in my life in child & adulthood, thought i had time to eventually be able to see him in concert. This song describes a traumatic relationship where she made me feel that my best was not good enough and i only existed to please her. Thank God i escaped it. George's music & lyrics have always felt like i had a friend i was walking through life with.

There's such a poignant story behind this Video. I think it was Filmed in Scotland where his Father Jack who didn' t think he had any Talent saw him perform for the first time. He cried tears of joy regretting that he said he didn't have any Talent. Also this Song was a Hit on Billboard's R & B Chart in the 1980's. Never ever say bad things to your children even if you see them helpless, or no career to start with. Remember this, your genes run in his or her bloodstream. Whatever negative effects that brought him/her, you as parent is still wholefully to be blame. Because your child only pays for you and your fathers sins, that your child has nothing to do with it, not even a speck.
