    Lyrics
    Ah, ha, ha
    Oh-oh, yeah
    'Til you work
    Somebody told me
"Boy, everything she wants is everything she sees"
I guess I must have loved you
Because I said you were the perfect girl for me
Baby, and now we're six months older
And everything you want, and everything you see
Is out of reach, not good enough
I don't know what the hell you want from me, oh
    Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
    Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
    La, la, la, la, la
    Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
    Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
    La, la, la, la, la
    Somebody tell me, oh
    Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
    Give you money
Work to give you money (oh)
Some people work for a living
    Some people work for fun
Girl, I just work for you
They told me marriage was a give-and-take
Well, you've shown me you can take, you've got some giving to do
And now you tell me that you're having my baby
I'll tell you that I'm happy if you want me to
But one step further and my back will break
If my best isn't good enough, then how can it be good enough for two?
    Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
    Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
I can't work any harder than I do (la, la, la, la, la)
    Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
    Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
    La, la, la, la, la
    Somebody tell me, oh
    Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
    Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
Aw, why do I do the things I do?
    Tell you if I knew
My god, I don't even think that I love you (la, la, la, la, la)
    Won't you tell me?
    Give you money
Work to give you money (oh-ah)
    Ah, oh, yeah
    Tell me
    Tell me
How could you settle for a boy like me
When all I could see was the end of the week?
All the things we sign, and the things we buy
Ain't gonna keep us together, it's just a matter of time
My situation never changes walking in and out of that door
Like a stranger for the wages
I give you all, you say you want more
And all I could see was the end of the week
All the things we sign, and the things we buy
    Ain't gonna keep us together
Girl, it's just a matter of time
    Work, work
    Work, work
La, la, la, la, la (just a matter of)
    Uh-huh, uh-huh, oh-oh, oh-oh
    Ah-ha, ah-ha, doo-doo-doo
    La, la, la, la, la
    Somebody tell me, oh
    Won't you tell me? (Somebody)
Why I work so hard for you
    Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
    Somebody tell me, whoa-oh
    Won't you tell me?
Why I work so hard for you
    Give you money (oh)
Work to give you money (oh)
    Somebody tell me
Won't you tell me? (Oh, please tell me...)
Why I do the things that I do
    Give you money
Work to give you money (oh)

When I was ten years old, I thought this was the best Wham song.
In my mid 20s, I still thought this was the best Wham song.
In my late 30s, I remained confident that this was the best Wham song.

Michael whipped this off one night on a synth and drum program, wrote up some unusually serious lyrics, and bam (or, Wham!), another #1 hit. The best song of the Wham! era, certainly. Ya know, we didn't take this guy too seriously back then, and yet one of the better pop song writers of the 20th century was under our radar. Amazing. Sorry he died so young. 53 is young, and most of us have cardiomyopathy in our 50s. But for the grace of god go the rest of us. This guy, who wrote some of the music to my youth, was only 5 years older than me, and now I'm as old as he was when he died. Time is a river. But good music is eternal.

So many artists pretend that they are the classic 'tortured' creator and that what they create is therefore the product of some impossible and unique process. In George's case he really was the tortured artist feeling obliged to pretend his songs were driven by regular boy-girl angst. But in pretending he produced real angst for himself and led to lyrics and music of real depth and memorability. He was the true tortured genius.

so effing true....master of pop songwriting at an extremely young age ..only 21 here....wrote knew you were waiting at 22 and managed at that age to snag Aretha Franklin..George was dazzlingly talented...unfortunately his demons, his ability to disclose his sexuality, and the treatment from the media led to his downfall and his talent although still amazing definitely was not as sharp as his early days..I like everything he did for the most part , but there was a noticeable drop off when he was going 100 mph......we are all human, but in his prime he was able to be in the conversation with the brightest pop stars of the 80s...he wrote his stuff too which is that much more impressive. one of my alltime favorite artists.

53 year old black male checking in. Back in the mid ‘80s pop music was what was popular, SHOCKER !! And Hip-Hop for the masses was at its birth. And in an era where MTV ruled !! And to top it off, cable TV was at its early stages. My family went from 5 channels on an antenna to more than I could absorb. I loved it, as well as my siblings. Great memories, but I digress. When I first saw a WHAM videos its was wake me up. We all knew that George was gay. This was when calling someone a f*ggot wasn’t that much out of line. But his sexuality, like boy George, didn’t matter….Because they are talented and true Artist. And if you think that Faith isn’t one of the greatest albums you’re mad. He made an impact and is a 1 of 1. Will always appreciate you sir !

Also this is a factual take. Hip-Hop in the 80s is and was shit. It *ALWAYS* will be tbh.
Edit: I can’t get into Hip-Hop in the 80s it’s like nails on a chalkboard or scraping a metal fork on a plate…it’s irritating and annoying.

Never ever say bad things to your children even if you see them helpless, or no career to start with. Remember this, your genes run in his or her bloodstream. Whatever negative effects that brought him/her, you as parent is still wholefully to be blame. Because your child only pays for you and your fathers sins, that your child has nothing to do with it, not even a speck.
