My First Time Roll Racing In The Barra Crown Wagon! (We turned up the boost 🤫)

- Ive never been to Roll racing before so I decided to turn the boost up on the Barra Powered Crown Wagon and head to to Queensland Raceway to see what all the fuss was about!
It was my first time at Rolls and I was super nervous being out on the track with so many fast cars but the wagon didn't disappoint and i ended up winning a few races!
Thanks to Kye Knight for throwing the Barra Powered Crown Wagon on the dyno, we left it at around 750HP for now! I want to keep the rods in 😂 @knightfamilymotorsport

A lot of the fighter aircraft of WWII were equipped with water/meth injection, it’s was called WEP, war emergency power, was a switch the pilot could toggle to get himself out of a sticky situation, whether it be a dogfight, or a bombing run gone wrong. That’s essentially wat you’ve called your ‘rods out’ power setting haha😅
Some of the earlier versions of wep were just a throttle limiter, and in the case of the p51 mustang, would allow the motor to make 800hp odd more when engaged.

Eletric Vs Nitro RC cars are sumilar to real cars.
Sure Eletric are quicker but petrol/nitro are more rewarding and require more skill in tuning them.

Hey Woody, throw some LEDs into your interior light mate. It might help with the in car footage 👍
Agree to disagree, having LEDs would be brighter for footage, but also could be more of a distraction from seeing the road ahead clearly while recording.
Greg idea, might replace all the bulbs in the cabin while I’m at it!
agree. Woody, pretty easy to chuck a couple small LED's on the doors, or maybe the air vents,
but then, hook up up to a spare switch so you can flick them off if they are too distracting whilst going FAST!
Perhaps some infrared lights so you can still see, and the video can be seen? Problem is that you will be in black and white, and possible look like Paris Hilton in that one video.

If you replace those map lights with drop in replacement LED's (i like AUXITO's), you will be surprised how well they illuminate the cabin for your gopro's

Cars are cars, its not so much about Petrol vs EV, its about what you can modify or not. Until you can start modifying EVs properly they aren't fun.
*Are electric cars performance vehicles?* Yes and No. A Tesla may be, but a Nissan Leaf probably isn't. Just like a Supra may be, but a Holden Barina probably isn't.

Same as combustion engines, electric cars can be either daily commute or performance, id say anything lighter than a tonne and making more than 500hp should have pretty good performance but ANYTHING can be fast in a straight line with enough torque and HP
Bringing an ev is like bringing a super car... It dosnt fit in when every other car is custom and not off the shelf.

Are you losing control of the wastegate? How much boost creep is there? Makes me wonder if it needs a bigger gate or a larger rear housing? I get the feeling that this is about as far as you are going to take it? Cheers Woody. good shit.
Wastgate merge isn’t the best, it’s a bit tight with the steering box and upper control arms so the EX50 hasn’t got good priority. I don’t think I’ll build an engine for its I can’t really go any faster without a roll cage but if one day Mr Rodney comes knocking then I guess I’ll have to 🤷♂️
Hey woody, when your at King of the strip, you should come and see the khanacross at benaraby as well its being held on the right hand side of the dragstrip carpark, it's $5 for a passenger ride if your game as well. Otherwise free to be a spectator.

Just an FG turbo engine with Head studs, kelford Cams, valve springs and oil pump gears.
Are electric vehicles performance vehicles? If shits fast, it's fast. Diesel, electric or whatever....wouldn't own anything but petrol personally though
An EV is no different to driving any other factory performance car. Eventually people will be re-powering classic with DIY high performance EV power trains - its technology progress :-)

Electric cars are so boring.. My company car is an electric car. 340hk 680nm. It sure accelerates pretty fast but it’s lacking soul and joy..

Evs are fast no denying that. Are they muscle? Are they motorsport? No and definitely no. Evs are soulless . Yes I may cuss at my car daily but it definitely has a soul and definitely has a engine.
Electric cars have the acceleration but not the speed. Performance car sure if it's reasonably of quite fast.

Valve/ cam Overlap definitely plays a part. Static compression and overlap is your friend.

I think we should be able to appreciate EVs for what they do well, like lots of acceleration on tap and amazing control over power output and traction, and where they often fall short. The performance in performance car is more than just acceleration. It’s the expression of character through sounds, vibrations and imperfection. Many combustion cars also are boring AF, like a Toyota Camry. Some electric cars are now approaching being seemingly fun, like the Hyundai Ioniq 5N.

Great episode! I'd love to hear more from Kai what causes boost creep and are there other mechanical way's to manage it. As I understand (spring pressure/ BOV) should keep that in check. But I don't have any experience with turbo vehicles. Keep the vids coming!!!
In this case the turbo manifold and wastegate placement is causing boost creep, the GFB EX50 is most definitely up to the task but due to the chassis design and using an off the shelf manifold we had to mount the gate in a not so convenient location causing exhaust gas to bypass the gate with higher exhaust gas pressure.
