I’m so glad I found your channel! I really appreciate you doing these demos. Most of the high gain demos are tuned too low for what I’m doing, I’m just down a half step. So these videos you do, style and all, are right up my alley! Thank you!
Be proud to tune standard... these hipsters today are subconsciously trying to turn the guitar into a bass with all this down tuned 17 string 7-foot baritone scale rubber band noise. My farts have better pitch...
@@scottdunn2178 why do you care what tunings people use so much? If the songs good the songs good. I would agree tuning doesn’t always determine how heavy a song is but it is fun to play in different tunings and what not.
This seems to be a take on the now discontinued VFE Dragon except the Dragon has a compression knob and a switch to adjust the intensity of the shelving. Kyle, I'd love if you made a vid comparing the Dragon and Tempest. If you were down for that, I'd be happy to ship out and loan you the Dragon.
Came to say something similar, the dragon was a cut down VFE Standout/Focus without the blend section and a drive. Interestingly Josh used the VFE Focus for quite a while in Slyosis. but since VFE have stopped making pedals pretty much I guess Fortin offered the £££
@@kieranvirgo9797 I really like the Focus as it is for boosting actives, but for passives I wish Peter would have done a version with a variable amount of a wide and centered mid-boost at the end of the circuit, maybe instead of the blend/mix just for space reasons. I usually use the mix at 90-100% anyways.
Pretty nice drive. Not the hugest fan of the clanky modern thing but this sounds damp good. It's awesome. That DSL especially just worked really well with the Tempest.
Great review! I know you crack jokes about being a bad player but your picking hand is quite good and does a great job of showing what products can do and the ones that shine with a tight picking hand. 🤘🏽
High kyle would love to see u compare and combine both the valveking 100watt head and the crate bv120h . id be super interested to see how they sound blended as i dont own the tone bone amp switcher or way to combine amps to use a preamp mixed with the other amp. Just like to see if its worth investing in the tone bone u use for this situation.
Ughhh. I just was NOT diggin' that clank/quack frequency in the upper mids. Then you kicked in the drop pedal. Woah! What a difference. It would seem this pedal is synergistic with drop tuning. A very specific sound for a very specific application.
I can't listen to metal without really thick earplugs, but I learn good stuff about dialing in tones and sundry in these vids. Feel free to thrash my over-earphones if it means I can hear a good comparison between the mudkiller, duality, and this 'un; in as many modes as you please!
Get a good noisegate like a Fortin Zuul or ISP Decimator. Dino’s Metalhead modded Marshall had a good gate built right into the head. That’s how he got those great start/stop sounds like on the Demanufacture title track. Next, anything that’ll boost the front end while cutting some low end for tightness. Fortin Tempest, Grind. Or something like an SD-1 or TS9. I love the tempest because you can dial it in exactly with the variable low and high cut.
In case 'that guy' doesn't post up, I figured I'd post his comment for you. 'My grandma says this pedal is bullshit and it doesn't even work with tube amps!'. Anyway, I like the vids and the FB group, Kyle.
You always put out quality vids. Today I subbed. Cool pedal. Don’t need another one. The wife would kill me. I do appreciate your fine detail with these things though. 🤘🏻🎸🤘🏻
BTW I’m in the same boat in Glendale Heights Illinois with the guitars needing a setup. They’re slowing shifting on me as the weather gets warmer and more humid.
Entry level, Boss has been around for 40 years & generally most their pedals run just over $100 Surwely this pedal, coming from a fairly sorta newer company shouldnt be too much more than 100-135.00 , but dont quote me as I havent price checked it. I was just sayin .......... Newer company usually needzs to work there way up with the big boys.
I hated this pedal. I couldn't sell it fast enough. Comparing it to a VFE would not be a fair comparison, the VFE is much better. But, these type of pedals, (even the VFE) tend to all that clankiness that I don't jive with either. Sounds great for awhile, then you hear it. But, I don't play lower tunings, so YMMV..

Great video, but what happend to drop c hardcore riffs dude?
Have to check out the new Revv Overdrive Tilt, it just released today, sounds wicked!
DUDE!!! I play in E standard too (and drop d)!!!!... but I'm 50 years old. 😜

@@nathanielcava4128 at some point people foolishly bought into the idea that downtuning meant heavier....it doesnt, however its pretty cool
Killer review as always. This would be great for detuned sixes also 7's & 8's
Hey buddy,
I know it has to be going into a cabinet.
But
What if I sent the headphone jack signal of my 5150 into my Boss 8 track recorder?
It will work
Awesome Vids!!! Thank you for doing these! What OD do you like boosting your ENGL Savage with?
I just ordered the Horizon Precision Drive pedal but will need to check this one out. I am waiting for the Fortin Evil Pumpkin amp to arrive.
Is it true the evil pumpkin is china made?
Kyle dude what am amazing amp collection! Did you get rid of the Mezzabarba amps?

hello bro, can you help me? Which overdrive is best to boost Distortion? the fortin hexdrive or the tempest?
Pretty nice drive. Not the hugest fan of the clanky modern thing but this sounds damp good. It's awesome.
That DSL especially just worked really well with the Tempest.
Wow I was just looking at that exact Pheonix LTD at a music store today, crazy.
Great demo as always! However I like my Augustine V2 Clean Boost and my Gary Holt Mid Boost better. This sounds good but sounds too sterile for me.
"Thrashy McDickhead" that's the mascot for the belligerent amateurs 🤣
Nice review. This is what I've been looking for, just bought one!
Dude thought you didn't like Fortin? All that gear and no Rivera amps? Anyways great demo as always 💪
Great review! I know you crack jokes about being a bad player but your picking hand is quite good and does a great job of showing what products can do and the ones that shine with a tight picking hand. 🤘🏽
Just enough attack in the upper mid lows and enough cut in the high lower lows and still keeping the saturation in the high gain response.
🤘🏽🎩
DUDE, great review but EXCELLENT shirt! Makes me happy to see shockwave still getting promoted!
Gary Holt tone. All day long. Reminds me of his Home Brew Electronics signature pedal.
So it's a Nazgul in a pedal? As you said, useful for modern downtuners and the like.
Seems cool, definitely can see the appeal for some, but for me it won't be replacing good old SD1

Right hand fingers when picking are super distracting, but it's a damn good sounding overdrive pedal🤣
I love it, replaced my 33! But I do like a more modern sound. Great review man
Love to hear it with a Kiesel Thorium bridge with no tone control.
Got that Germanium thing going on too

Any recommendations for a pedal in front of a DSL to get into fear factory territory???

Nice video, waiting shooting Tempest vs Precision Drive please!
I sold the Tempest but if I come across another, I can do that for sure!

Need a noise gate with that setup
Hey, it's my pedal. No really, I bought it from Kyle 🤣
It's got the quack!
Was almost curious.
It's basically a Horizon Drive with replaced knobs and a new paint job.
It actually looks to be a VFE Dragon clone (which are no longer made)
Sounded best with the mesa
Well, if it isn't uncle thrashy mcdickhead. still playing in e standard. nice amps tho.
Nice shirt man!
skrik skirnk skrunk quick quack clink clank quirk (not a heavy tone)
Awesome thank man 👍

Almost too bright and scratchy... i can imagine it being used with heavily downtuned guitar but in this video i prefered the amp without the boost.
Seems to really bring It to the Marshall.
Sounds alrite just adds too much of a compressed gain property.

Fortin is one of the most sought after brands in the modern guitar market. I dont like them, but newer does not necessarily mean unknown.
its a fortin.........dude
Guy, Fortin is going to have no problem selling this thing
