- Since I arrived in Alleppey, I have wanted to go on a boat tour which is super famous here and one of the fun activities to do. I was glad to meet such a lovely gentleman who took me on a short ride. Sharing the whole experience with you.

Had been watching your videos from North. If you guys are not here yet, try both type of boats. Smaller ones goes through the smaller canals where you can see the real rural life. House boat offers a silent calm and peaceful experience. Lake is too large that at some points, you cannot see the land at all. Plan your journey before hand and try to find the best deals. I am from North Kerala, not from Alleppey area. Try to visit North Kerala as well. It is Theyyam, a ritual dance, season here. You can have some best food as well.
Don't overpay please. They will expect the same from other foreigners too.

In India should always walk on the footpath/ side where traffic is coming from opposite direction so that you can face the approaching car( s ) , therefore you are able to see the danger coming if someone is driving rash and keep a watch / lookout comfortably.

@@Davud_Akh yes why not be safe because you never know which one is doing it for cheap thrills especially the younger drivers and no need to look over your shoulder to see if any car is passing every now and then ......
If some more clean public place Kerala is heaven anyway better than rest of Indian I am not insulting other states but comparatively Kerala is best state

Dear Davud, I really hope this comment reaches your eyes. You are a very kind human being and a responsible tourist. Paying excess amount to anybody in the tourist sector when they provide better communication and service might actually work as a motivation for everyone to improve the quality of their service towards tourists in general. But please avoid paying anything to the beggars. Begging has been a deep rooted curse of India for a long time, initially which was due to poverty and hunger soon changed to an organized mafia. A lot of child kidnappings were associated with these mafias that controlled the reigns of begging chains in India. Toddlers were kidnapped, amputated or blinded and then send to the streets for begging. A great share of these money collected from begging went back to the mafias that ran the system. Every Indian states started movements and set up laws to prevent begging. Kerala was successful in eradicating begging by providing shelter and jobs in government controlled sectors like lottary industry for the disabled along with strict prohibition on begging. A lot of social campaigns along with government actions succeeded in making Kerala the first non beggar state and everyone rejoiced the archeivement. But recently the beggars are back on the streets and almost all of them are from other states. Lack of competition, foreign tourists and higher income are all pulling more and more beggars back to Kerala. Please stop donating money to them and if possible spread awareness to other tourists too. If you really want to help the unlucky people, please donate at any charity shelters or orphanages. Thankyou.

Bro that is back water. Anywhere there is backwater it looks dirty carrying all natural weeds. Its a sea water. No point cleaning the weeds. Venice is dry region, aleppy is very wet region receives rainfall of around 300cm annually. So lot of greens.
But lots of plastics.We are less clean compared with Thailand.
