Avreiaturace is a similar size, just differently posed. I didn't see any issues with her paint. She also has the extra claw details as well as the rider and a rather nice looking saddle. Her price was/is $129. Why on earth is this one SO much more? It is absurd to have such a massive price jump. I'd argue that Tiamat, having all 5 heads would warrant a few extra $$, but really? Nearly 4 times as much for that model? Don't even get me started on the demon lords. Jubilex looks like someone coughed up some flem, then 3d scanned it. $70. Demogorgon is huge sized. His model is going to be $80. The white dragon is/was $70. Wizkids be gettin a bit too greedy.
Mine came in and I was less than pleased. The wings were extremely difficult to seat, and I’m still very worried they will pop out. The tail does not stay attached at all. I emailed customer service and have heard nothing but crickets.
I had the exact same issue with arveaturice. The tail just would not go in, so I simply removed the stupid sheatth it was wrapped in, filled the hole with greenstuff+ milliput and shoved the tail in, removed it and let it dry, then simply filled it with superglue and rammed the tail back in with like 6 pins on different angles. It's not the quality I would've hoped for but I can swing it by its tail and it doesn't come off now lol
Just FYKI, according to the Fizban's book, Klauth is considered a Greatwyrm, meaning he is even bigger and more powerful than Balagos, an Ancient Dragon, since he discovered and merged with echoes of himself from other universes. He should be physically different too, being immersed with fire and magma. Those black plastic holders are interesting, so they ensure the holes where the wings go do not warp? Nice!
I truly love Klauth for his Amazing feats but have little to go by since I've only discovered him in my research for Ashardalon, mind sharing where I can read more about him like the info on his increased affinity to Magma and fire ? Also any other notorious dragons I should know about besides those mentioned ? I see a lack of Blue, Green and White Great wryms and infamous figures.

The old Colossal Red is still the king on the tabletop. It doesn't show as well from just the front but the wings are just about as big as the Gargantuan but they are also curving forward and around the base. When you put a player's model right in front they are blocked on three sides. It really feels like they are trapped. The new model is a beautiful display piece but the pose doesn't say "fight" so much as "Look at my majesty"
Thank you!! I actually came back from my trips and found it half destroyed. I'm not sure if the cats got to it or what, but I had to frantically reassemble it to get this video out as quickly as I could! -Theo
Thoughts on the paint job from a pro painter: It works fine for a normal mini, but for a premium figure it’s kinda terrible. Needs way more highlights and washes, the wing fade transition doesn’t pack enough punch (I’d go even darker with it), and it generally needs work. It’s such an amazing mini tho so if you can, I’d recommend definitely doing all of the above. Oh and quick correction Theo, ancient red dragons are CR 26, not 24. So more like Demogorgon, Orcus, and Zariel in power.
Excellent! Thank you for that perspective! I could picture what a difference it would be if this were hand-painted by a professional. Hmm according to my Monster Manual it’s CR 24 unless there was an update somewhere… -Theo
There is a reason they didn't use Klauth! He's too big. 🙃 Having done a ton of research and measuring in preparation for Klauth making an appearance in my ToD game, it turns out that Klauth is substantially larger than most ancient red dragons, definitely in the Greatwyrm category. Where typical ancient red dragons measure about 120+ feet long from nose to tail, he's closer to 600 ft. This is both because he's one of the oldest dragons alive and because he knows a secret magical technique to increase in size and power by eating other dragons' eggs. So a to-scale "mini" of Klauth, at 1 inch = 5 in-game feet, would be 10 real-world feet long from nose to tail. 5 times the size of Balagos here. I had to use a virtual tabletop, zoomed out to a map 1000x1000, to do him justice.
@@doms.6701 Actually, it is! With a flexible tape measure up balagos's spine, he's 27 inches from nose to tail, which would put him at 135 in-game feet. Pretty accurate for a 1in-5ft scale; theoretically Balagos himself might be a bit bigger, but it's accurate for Ancient Red. The problem is actually the humanoid minis: Since their little black bases are 1 inch across, the average human mini measures about 1.5 inches tall, which would stand at 8.5 in-game feet. So the dragons only look small compared to the oversized human minis.
It's a beautiful mini. Anyway, I am a little dissapointed, because he is just big. The other ancient dragon has his fire breath; arveiaturace has his rider. Balagos has just his size. Even his position is very similar to the position of the normal adult red dragon. So, it's nice, but it is not as good as it could be.
nice review; mine is in the mail. I have to say I really really like wiz kids switching to clear bases for all their mini's makes my DF terrain really stand out. Please do the spelljammer minis when you get your review boxes.

A mini of impressive scale. Though I gotta say, the paint job is not blowing me away, especially for the price. Where I live, it costs $479 that is...insane. Even the regular price feels like a crazy gouge. If an unpainted version is reasonable, I might pick it up, but I doubt it will be. It truly is an impressive "mini", but I can't reason my way to paying that much for what you get. Thanks for all the nice shots of scale, and the close ups. Excellent work as always.
@@doms.6701 Yeah, that is on Amazon CA. For an unpainted... before their price hike the painted Ancient White dragon was a little over $100, post the White dragon is around $150-200 US. Now this is a bigger mini, but it's the same scale. There's no way the unpainted version should be more than the painted version of another one in the same scale. So, I'd say maximum is 200, but a more seasonable price is somewhere like 170+. That's still high, but is reasonable considering the current market.
It won't be reasonable: they priced unpainted Tiamat at $350 vs the $400 for the painted version if that tells you anything. I recommend Reaper miniatures if you want something actually reasonable, they'll have some new dragons coming out modeled after 5e dragons, I already got the red one and he is comparable, maybe about 3 quarters the size of this guy, but he only cost me $20 or so on the kickstarter. Look up "Reaper Minis Valfuryx" (Green) and "Reaper Shavyrna The Slayer" (Red) "Reaper Ildraedis The Devourer " (White) and "Reaper Aganzarax" (Black) They haven't made a 5e blue dragon yet.
@@moolate127 "It won't be reasonable." Sigh...I know, but a lad can dream. All of those look good, and I have a lovely reaper dragon (the bronze I think, though I'm planning to do it up as a topaz). I'll probably pick some of those up, though they're not quite the scale I'm looking for with the Wizkids ancient red. But I mean the quality and price on them is hard to turn up. Thanks for pointing me to them.
Awesome mi.. mega! I wish and hope for the Copper and Brass adult pre painted dragons coming soon. Also potential for the Brown desert dragon and the Gray fang dragon too. Heck the Brown and Gray chromatics have more official art, attention and backstory than 3 major chromatic dragon colors Yellow ( coast, salt breath ), Orange ( jungle, sodium cholride breath ) and Purple (underground explorer energy breath NOT confused with deep dragon which is fungi breath and more secluded, both hoards intel and lore though ) And dont forget the extra main Metallic and Gem dragons Wotc/ Wizkids could release! Jacinth gem dragon, the Ruby leader of em, metallic osmium, steel etc. I would buy all of them in a heartbeat!! To show support and not just for the standard known 5 x Metallic, Chromatic and Gem dragons. Is anyone else disappointed with him in comparison to the Colossal red Dragon mini that was shown next to Balagos? Like Wizards just bring out that old one and start making that one again. It's so much cooler then this guy.
I’m 100% with you that the older one looks better. But it’s not a WizKids mini, and thus not their mini to re-make. Also, that Colossal is based on 3.5 artwork, not 5e. I personally prefer most of the 3.5 dragon designs myself, but that’s not where we are with regards to WizKids.
just because the dragon old doesnt mean they have to have holes in wings. They are flesh web wings. They heal over time and even can heal with magic and or sewing the wing holes close.
Ya but rule of cool. Looks much cooler with holes since it shows the dragon has been around. It would be break the immersion if a nearly 1,000 year old anything looked perfect and pristine
Balagos looks pretty cool and have an ok paint job but the price... is really overpriced for what it is. If it cost a max of $200 maybe I would buy it but for $400 is a big nope.
@@doms.6701 I'll tell you right now if you want to actually play with your minis: DO NOT GET 3D PRINTS. They are more brittle than glass figurines (literally not even an exaggeration). They're great for collectors and that's it, I found this out the hard way.

Look up "Reaper Minis Valfuryx" (Green) and "Reaper Shavyrna The Slayer" (Red) "Reaper Ildraedis The Devourer " (White) and "Reaper Aganzarax" (Black)
They haven't made a 5e blue dragon yet.
@@moolate127 "It won't be reasonable."
Sigh...I know, but a lad can dream.
Really want to see what's in that spelljammer mini box!
Someone alredy have accounts, flood the D&D folks at Twitter, discord, D&D forums etc I and others wants its muches. I just stay away from Twitter.
He's cool but you could buy a 3d printer for the price.
Yup. You could get a printer and a way to cure it for the price of tiamet. Or a printer for the price of a brick of minis
Ridiculous price!!!!!!!!! Nope
I just got it yesterday. It looks great next to the old colossal! After the garbage that was the Wand of Orcus, I’m glad Wizkids hit it out of the park with this one.

@@Captainpigraven Ah I didn't know that. But seriously Balagos looks tiny compared to the Colossal Red.
nice
just because the dragon old doesnt mean they have to have holes in wings. They are flesh web wings. They heal over time and even can heal with magic and or sewing the wing holes close.
Ya but rule of cool. Looks much cooler with holes since it shows the dragon has been around. It would be break the immersion if a nearly 1,000 year old anything looked perfect and pristine
@@doms.6701 I disagree. I hate holes in wings. They look way better with none
Colossal dragon is still bigger, get Balagos' weak ass outta here!
Ya but Balagos is cooler looking. Only thing going for the colossal is the fire breath lol
i hate holes in wings
Why not? I love them. They are like wrinkles on old people.
i want a female red dragon. Gargantum
It can be both. Not like a female dragon has boobs or males have dangling bits 😂
@@doms.6701 Ik but when name literally implies male. Its rip
It’s a really epic miniature but a little overpriced, if it was around 200€ it would be a instant buy
ya
That's what you'd pay for an unpainted version of Etsy. Don't you think $100 more is fair to not have to paint it.
Awe, he’s such a little baby compared to the old Colossal Red dragon
Hardly lol. A wyrmling looks like a little baby but not this
Balagos looks pretty cool and have an ok paint job but the price... is really overpriced for what it is. If it cost a max of $200 maybe I would buy it but for $400 is a big nope.
It’s actually $300. The Tiamat mini is closer to $400. Still high, obviously. -Theo
Idk it seems like a fair price. To get an unpainted ancient red dragon from Etsy would cost you a minimum of $100, upwards of $200.
@@doms.6701 I'll tell you right now if you want to actually play with your minis: DO NOT GET 3D PRINTS. They are more brittle than glass figurines (literally not even an exaggeration). They're great for collectors and that's it, I found this out the hard way.
