The bridge was " I love you to the bones, Ana wrecks your life, like an anorexia life." This was a poem he wrote, it was never meant to be released but they just needed 1 more song. During touring with their 2nd album he developed Ana with all the resctrictions with the schedule. Literally everything was controlled by someone else, he had no control over anything, except what he could eat. So he tested himself to see how far he could go, especially when they got back home. Hes a natural recluse anyway and his faamily would deliver him his food( own a fruit veg shop). He'd eat an apple a day, that is it. To stop him from passing/ blacking out. In the end his family did a medical intervention on him. He got down to about 45kgs, for a 5ft 10 guy. He shouldve been minimum 75kgs. So its quite a raw song, if you can understand him, most get the lyrics wrong and end up confused.
The reference to Diana was for Lady Diana Spencer, who was alive at the time this song was written. She apparently also suffered from Bulimia. Very cryptic song writer. Love all his stuff.
What its got nothing to do with Princess Diana what utter nonsense , there is no reference to Diana it's Die Ana as in die anorexia as Daniel had a eating disorder stop spouting shite .
I personally love ‘Freak Show’ the most; still remember hearing the whole thing for the first time as a young teenager (as a Triple J radio station special)!
YEESSSSS!!! As an Aussie who was a teenager when Silverchair first emerged, I absolutely adored them! 🤘🏻Daniel John’s songwriting ability? For a person of his age (at that time) were simply ASTOUNDING ! I don’t know that ‘the Chair’ were as big in the US?? But here in their home of Oz they were held in massive esteem & still are to this day, despite no longer being a band. And can you believe that Johns was also hit by severe rheumatoid arthritis after this album, which emerged as a result of the anorexia on his body? He did recover though, thankfully, after I think about a year off? Respect !
Here’s a cover of Ana’s Song (Open Fire) performed on a Silverchair tribute album that came out a few years ago, featuring all heavy Aussie bands paying homage! ONE OF THE BEST COVERS OF A SONG I HAVE EVER HEARD ruclips.net/video/QN3HyrFI6p0/видео.htmlsi=1yjrVv6Y7yJcwn7u
I don’t believe I’ve ever seen someone catch that, definitely not as early. Respect.

Neon ballroom is their best album , but silverchair is one of the most underrated bands of the 90s and early 2000s
Completely agree with you 💯

Slave, nobody came, freak and no association rocked 🤘🐸🦙
To me it’s a progression towards diorama. But all good and super cool steps
