I just did this tonight after watching you. I've a stock 4WD 18 DC, and now have both front and rear TRD sways. I left my truck on the ground, left the wheels on the ground, easy peasie and I did it alone. To install, after attaching the the links to the bar and torquing them down, I found it easiest to locate both sway bar links in their pockets on the lower control arm, keeps them in place while you push the sway bar up and thread the front bolts in each bushing support bracket, then you can move the link around (used a small pry bar/screwdriver) to line up the bolt and get it started, then ran them in to just snug with a ratchet / socket; then tightened the 4 bolts on the bushing bracket and last I torqued the link bolts at the lower control arm. I did notice a slight improvement in suspension control, I like it but it's not as noticeable as the rear which really was VERY noticeable. I'm running stock coils on KYB shocks, my OEM only lasted around 70K; may go to a stiffer coil eventually, I run heavy cargo alot and also have air bags w cradles. The front tends to bounce a bit when heavy with the bags leveling...
Great video and great upgrade. Can’t believe I hesitated to do this. REALLY noticeable improvement, and I don’t detect any increased harshness with 2018 TRD (non Pro). 18” stock wheels. Already had rear TRD sway.
Great video, the only one I found online that showed the sequence to install the bar. Without your help I would have never got it installed! Between the TRD front sway bar and the TRD rear sway bar the truck behaves much better.
I just did this tonight (2016 DC SR5) along with the skid plate. It was really helpful to see the process a couple times before starting. I tried last weekend but could not get the endlinks off the stock bar because there's not a good place to grip it and the grease spewed out. The Moog replacements are great and have a place for a wrench to torque the nut (though I'm not sure why there's a left and right endlink). For those asking: the stock sway is decent but with the TRD bar it feels like it on rails (as much as I would think a truck like the Tundra could). I almost want to put some race slicks on it and take it to the autocross track.
Yes! The factory stabilizer has weighs approximately 10.8 lbs and the Toyota TRD stabilizer bar weighs 22.9 lbs. That extra weight comes from the TRD being being solid as opposed to hollow. It provides greater rigidity while it’s flexing. That’s a great difference in performance and handling.
Nice example and thanks for informing people of the torque requirements so important yet so overlooked or totally ignored by some mechanics. Hope you’re now enjoying a better driving Tundra, because I surely am! PS: Thanks for the credit, and you got another subscriber!
Thank you for your comment. The ride quality is so much better now. It feels great tossing around the corner. Doesn't feel like a big boat anymore. Thanks to you and thanks for subscribing.
Good video. Watched many times before I installed mine. Hardest thing was taking off and putting the factory skid plate back on. Can’t justify getting the TRD skid plate yet. I don’t do very much off reading. All your videos are a big help.
‘’You must live out west..no rust under that truck...:-). Those sway bars makes a world of difference on the front and back. Now you need to put some Fox shocks on it next. TRD ...👍
@@MJF40 I installed the TRD sway bar both front and rear , I think the rear one makes much larger difference in handling than the front one . I also now have a leveling kit on the front and a RCI skid plate installed . I am now really enjoying the ride .
I just watched this video so don't know if you also had the TRD rear sway bar. If you did, which one would you recommend installing first to have the most impact? Thank you
Great video. Question...today I went to install my TRD front sway bar. When I was remove the bolt on the passenger side and towards the rear of truck I noticed the bolt was loose and I thought it was backing out. After further inspection the female end where the bolt goes was loose inside the frame. It was as though it was suppose to be welded to the truck and the welds were broken away from the frame. Truck only has 1K miles on it and no idea how long it was like this but couldn’t have been long since the truck is new. What do you think I could do here!
Hi, thank you for your comment. It's probably over-torqued and broke the weld. Is there a gap where you could stick a screw driver in there to wedge it to keep it from spinning? Beside that I'm sure what to do. The truck is brand new maybe you should have the dealer take a look. Good luck.
Nice video. Got mine a few weeks ago. Weather is finally good enough to do install. What size is the allen key and what type grease did you use on the bushings?
Thanks for watching. I used this grease www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0083R1FME/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I didn't have to use an allen key. Good luck with the install. Let me know how to like it.
Great vid! Thanks! Does it come with any hardware? My Tundra did have a FSB so I need all the mounting hardware. I bought the TRD RSB and it does come with all of the necessary hardware but you used all your existing mounting hardware. Thanks again!
I use the same brand Milwaukee cordless given to me FREE by Toyota when purchasing a new Tundra circa 2013. Going to get another impact wrench like you have and the Front Sway bar too. Great tutorial.
NK1794 Does it ride rougher? I added just the rear one on a TRD Tundra when I first bought it in 2012. I debated on doing the front one because it has a stock one. I see you added the rear sway bar first as well. I found it rode more harsh after putting the rear one.
Hey bud. Did you really pull the bar down to torque that inner nut or did you leave it alone? I know it's a PITA to torque that to 111lbs since you'll need a crow wrench and a hex key, as I dont trust putting torque on the bolt itself via the hex slot as it can easily slip and wear it out.
NK1794 I figured since you didn't show that part. 😂 All in could do with hex key and torque wrench was close to 90lbs so it's kinda close and I called it a day too.
Would part number PTR620C180 FIT ON A 2015 1794 4x4. The parts guy at the stealerships are not sure and the sway bars I've looked up are specifically fir the 2019 models.
Not being critical but how much better can the TRD be, how much thicker is it and does that make that big of a difference ??Its red so that's nice but other than that ???
Where can I buy the front seat bar? I have the rear that I found on Amazon but I cant find the front.. I even called Toyota and the guy I spoke with told me they didnt even make them.. this video says otherwise.. its literally the final touch to my truck that it needs. Plz and thank you
Heavier = stronger metal = the metal can bend and twist less = more solid ride and tires more firmly planted on the ground during turns. Note that this makes the ride super stiff. You will feel every single pebble on the road. Most guys choose to only go for the rear and leave the front as stock since it comes with one anyway and isnt as harsh as the TRD.
One more question, i got my TRD rear sway bar now, do i need to apply anti seize grease on all the bolts before screwing it in and apply grease on all the rubber bushing and the metal bushing/spacer that connects to the frame.
I think you just need grease around the 2 big rubber pieces that wrapped around the sway bar but it doesn't hurt to apply to other part that makes contact with metal. Regarding anti-seize grease I would apply them to all the bolts, but it's a matter of preference.
TRD only comes in red. There is another brand, Hellwig. It's not red. You can Google it. I heard a lot of good things about it.The TRD is $173. I got it from this site. They're all the same 27mm OD (Tundra, Sequoia, TRD) so the mounting hardware is interchangeable. The TRD bar is much thicker internally. Tundra OEM is 18 lbs, Sequoia is 24 lbs and the TRD is 29 lbs.

NK1794 with the TRD Skid plate doesn't it come with a oil filter access door or you have to remove the whole thing like the stock plastic one?

Thanks for the video. Now i know what is involved in installing.
You're welcome. It's an awesome addition to the truck.
We already have a sway bar installed from the factory , does the red TRD one make that much of a difference in ride ?
No response I see. Lol
Yes it does improve the ride. The original bar is hollow and light while the TRD is solid and heavy duty.

I'm using Husky from Home Depot.
Is it possible to change the sway bar without lifting it?
I don’t think there is enough room to work without lifting it.
Ya these trucks have over.boosted power steering and sloppy suspension. Wish the seats had more side bolster too. Otherwise great trucks.
