@@amyrose9889nenasonicShaman is the typically used term to encompass all people who can see cursed spirits. On a simplified level, Curse Users are "bad" Shaman, Jujutsu Sorcerers are "good" shaman. But they're all shaman. Riko had no fighting capabilities and we didn't see her use a Technique, but she could see and interact with Cursed Energy and Spirits, so that makes her a Shaman/Sorcerer
One thing I think is a big part of his descent into madness was that he could only see humans in absolutes; either all humans are worth saving or all humans should die. We see through Megumi that jujutsu sorcerers often save people based on personal feelings and attachments, and through Nobara's motivations than most don't join for altruistic reasons. Geto joined Jujutsu high to save people and protect the weak, and it broke him.
Tbh on a moral level I almost respect the concept of treating humans in absolutes, since then you kinda admit to yourself you're acting for your own interest. If you start to judge who you save and who you don't it's more arrogant, since you cast yourself as moral judge. Sure, there's scenarios where there is a right choice to save someone but not someone else, for example if it's a brilliant, cancer-researching scientist or a child, you know damn well the researcher will choose that you save the kid if you can so the choice is obvious. Or joker versus the red mask or any other innocent in gotham.
I think megumi being aware of his limited personal perspective when it comes to why he saves people one of my favorite details because it comes across as lazy or uncaring, but in contrast to people like geto or yuji, who feel the need to be a hero or savior, it’s actually a lot more securely founded. Geto held onto such high goals and beliefs that when he realized he wasn’t able to reach them, he changed the goalposts in a way that satisfied him.
Yeah well, where did it get them both? Nobara always took the L and megumi used Mahogara on a sourcerer who didn't even know his own abilities, hence allowing sukuna doing what he's doing, should've know better, if anything they should not have got involved at all
Mahito was free too to use his powers in any way he liked, and had no worry about the actions he comminuted, though Geto still had rationalized that his actions were noble in some way when Mahito was just having fun because he’s sick, he really is a dark version of Luffy, like mother’s basement said which is just sticking with me ever since he said it.

Part of me doesn't blame Geto that much. Life as a jujutsu sorcerer is just cruel and shitty all over. You either die horribly like Haibara or quit like Nanami. Nobody appreciates what you're doing in the slightest. These are issues Gojo can't solve just by being the strongest.
I like how both Geto and Gojo come to opposite conclusions, yet those conclusions are kinda inversed from popular conception. Geto came to believe that every life matters, but only the select few could defend them. Thus he came to inflate the value of himself and sorcerers leading to him to believe that normal humans are worthless. Meanwhile, Gojo came to believe that nothing matters, and thus it was his job to help teach those who still believe that life matters to make things better. Such a fascinating inversion of existentialism vs nihilism.
Real concise way of putting it, nice Yeah when season 2 started and Geto was this dude arguing how much people needed to be protected, I was really fascinated. Especially considering how JJK 0 ended with Gojo saying something like "you were always the one with the soft heart", theyre awesome foils for eachother (and it adds so much interesting subtext to what Gojo's intentions are with his students in the modern day)
Everytime I think of Suguru's fate I cry. He deserves to belong with Gojo. By his side. By shokos side. They all need eachother. And yet, Suguru's remains continue to haunt the entire plot of jujutsu kaisen. Like seeing a ghost. The one piece that makes everything set in motion.
That’s actually my favorite character trope. That one character who, despite not being present in the story’s current timeline, still holds a major influence over the plot and cast. Two characters who carry this trope so well are Geto and Rose Quartz from Steven Universe, which is ironic considering their polar opposite philosophies on life lmao.
@@さくら-l8tno cuz those are always my fav characters lol😭 like even though his body is still there, that little shit is always gonna be a big presence and technically started all this💀
So glad you made the video without manga spoilers. One more thing, I absolutely loved the whole "choosing your feelings" things. Tsukumo telling Geto that his thoughts were potential feelings/selves that he could choose is so interesting. We often just go along with our thoughts as if they are the ultimate truth, not choosing which ones to listen to more deliberately, and while it was tragic - the feelings Geto had to choose, it definitely made a clear impression on me in this regard. Then Geto saying, "These are the feelings I choose" - instant chills moment. Anyways, great vid as always AJ!
We think we choose of our own free will. But all it takes are the right circumstances and factors to push us to something we thought we would never become or do.
he doesn't show up as much as some other villains but it's undeniable that who he is, the decisions he made, his past friendship with gojo, etc have long term impacts on the story, and that's one of my favorite things about him
Geto is easily one of the best villains in anime/manga, Akutami did such an amazing job with the character he reminds me of Shinobu Sensui from Yu Yu Hakusho. Not surprising considering Sensui actually was the inspiration for Geto which blew my mind when I found out about this.
Ohh I guess that make sense since he is a fan of h x h but didn’t know Geto was inspired by sensui never thought I’d see that name again now that u mention I can see the similarities surprised I didn’t see it before
Geto is a truly well-written character in my opinion. Seeing how his viewpoint got distorted because of riko’s death was such an emotionally compelling scene, it somehow makes you REALLY relate to the character. The whole arc itself cleanly ties the knot between Gojo’s past and the events in JJK 0, it really makes that last scene in the movie a lot more emotional. No doubt, the hidden inventory arc was crisp 👌🏻 the animation, the music, everything was just pure masterpiece.
Great video! Geto's reasoning is incredibly sympathetic from his point of view. His enormous insecurities and deep cynicism pull at the sympathy until it's threadbare and what you're left with is a man who wouldn't reach out for anything but confirmation of his darkest tendencies. He curled up psychologically and stewed in a bath of negative reinforcement built on selective hearing and interpretation to satisfy a hunger that he couldn't help but indulge. A poignant and compelling character.
At first I was disappointed at Geto's heel turn as it wasn't the slow burn I was expecting. But the more I've engaged with it the more I've come to appreciate it. It's an engaging and more realistic execution of the ethos of 'One Bad Day' described in The Killing Joke whereby the stars can align in a way that can turn a good, well-meaning person into a monster. There's also a tragedy of the biggest source of his downfall being a lack of a shoulder to lean on and a difficulty to cry out for help when he needed it most.
@@JoJoZaka If you take into account where he came from to where he went, it's a pretty drastic shift. But even still, it's done very well. And the movie doesn't count, he had his heel-turn before it.
@@whodatboi2567 yes, but iirc it was about a year in the anime. There's really no need for it to be a slow burn as all the events that led to Geto's role as a villain didn't need a lot of explanation or time to comprehend as a character. Completely agree with your final point tho 👍
geto is probably my favorite character. imo this is a cautionary tale. people need other people to lean on for support. while I like gojo, his neglect for geto when geto was in the worst state of mind is something that... well, pains me. how maybe, just maybe, if gojo had probed more, he could get geto to open up BEFORE he makes a decision. if they had a deep conversation about what to do, things could've been different. maybe I'm this affected by it bc the gojo-geto friendship (crush?) dynamic was really fun to watch, idk. i know that if it had been solved differently, the story would lose some of it's ''edge'', if that makes sense. it wouldn't be as interesting, right? but, man.. I can't watch hidden inventory again. it makes me too sad.
Yeahh it's really sad cause Geto is good at supporting Gojo but Gojo doesn't seem to have as much experience with the opposite. Not that he doesn't at all (for example, he's good at reassuring Geto when he made some mistakes during the mission => when he accidentally let Kuroi get kidnapped and when he wasn't able to protect Riko), but that he's generally not as practiced in it as Geto. Gojo was very focused on developing himself after the tragedy with Riko and dismissed the warning signs (or didn't really take notice of them) he saw in Geto
Yeah, even after Gojo became the strongest, he failed to grasp the true problem with the Jujutsu society. Instead, he focused on perfecting himself and ignored Geto's red flags. That's why he was so shocked in their final confrontation and didn't get why Geto killed the village. He then reiterates this by telling Yaga that "Sensei, apparently it's not enough for me to be the strongest" He understood then that the Jujutsu society's ignorance to young sorcerer deaths pushed Geto to the edge. Which is why in current time, Gojo hates the higher ups.
@@latia876 you're so right about that. what happened with geto was a huge lesson for gojo (that strength isn't the be all and all), but at the cost of his dear friend. auudfhughfdfjgdjhghdgj so much pain. @@okuigokublack I just wish geto had talked to gojo about what's on his mind. or if they went to that village mission together, surely the ending wouldn't be like this. while this was a good lesson to him and it's why gojo was able to become a good mentor (by teaching the students to rely on each other, pretty sure none of them have been sent to missions alone),,, it cost him the one person who could've, should've been his equal. aaah watching s2 was a mistake (i got invested and now i'm very sad)
Hidden Inventory is like the cherry on top of The Night Parade of 100 Demons. Going back and seeing what caused Geto’s downfall makes his passing that much more sad. Gotta say the staff did an amazing job on episode 5. The perfect representation of Geto.
Watching the Hidden Inventory arc reminded me how much i love Geto. He’s such a greatly reevaluated character despite genuinely dying way back in the story. I see him as good if a character as Toji or Maki cuz they are characters which we’ve seen the full realization of the themes they embody in such a short time. That’s how I like it in stories : short and simple with a end to the journey. Geto is the perfect foil for the supreme Gojo and both Toji and Geto serves as platforms from which Gojo can climb to another level once again showing the unfairness of being Satoru Gojo’s first mate. It’s simply not enough it’s simply not empowering it’s simply soul crushing.
Was not expecting this but pleasantly surprised. Hidden Inventory is a top tier shonen backstory, almost as good as Kakashi Gaiden from Naruto, and Getou is a fantastic character.
@@wwe12153 People like you are an actual plague, you robots literally just go around slandering Naruto because of some weird complex. Yes, I think Kakashi Gaiden as awesome. Are you really so much of a ghoul as to mock me for enjoying something?
It's kind of crazy that you published this video because I was thinking of making an analysis on Geto and have been obsessing over the character since watching s2.
I read this in a JJK fanfic and I think this really applies here: "This whole Jujutsu thing, it's not for everyone. The pressure of it all, some people will cracked and broken by it. It brings endless death and bloodshed. Even if you succeed, there will still be cold, miserable failure somewhere in there, and above all else, it's a thankless job. Those of us who can handle it just have to accept that and keep going forward."
People curse eachother in our world too, just through sheer lack of empathy. I certainly do understand his point of view, as true understanding and compassion is an impossible ideal. Really cant blame him... not sure what to make of that. Worked at a hospital and I firsthand saw the lack of true care from people who were in positions to give care..
Definetly a classic in the making of yours. Gojo and Geto’s mirrored fates are deeply tragic and at points very disturbing. Your summary of the key points that changed these two men really bring everything into perspective for me ^^
Such a great analysis- love your videos! Geto is one of my favorite characters in JJK. He's one of those characters who you don't agree with, but understand and sympathize with.
Great analysis. With this season, Geto has become my favorite character in JJK. The writing in this show is impeccable, its on another level that its other shonen competitors cant keep up with. I look forward to more JJK videos from you! Keep it up friend.
Man this made me cry! What a video! Such thorough research and explanation about this character, Thanks to you that i am getting closer to understanding geto suguru❤
Wow thank you for this video. Geto is such an interesting and complex character, i’m glad that HI arc showed us the whole story of youth of Gojo and Geto. Now I can’t watch the jjk 0 without sadness.
I love that this series’s conversations are always so meaningful. If that conversation with her hadn’t happened. The story may have changed in different ways. Maybe Geto would’ve found light.
YESSSSS YESSSSSSSSSS i just watched all of jujutsu kaisen last week and have been fiending for more content, and along comes the GOAT dropping a video about my favourite eboy
Fantastic analysis as usual! Speaking as a anime only (who does know a few spoilers going forward) Geto is without question my favourite character in the series. I LOVE a good antagonist and he absolutely enthralled me particularly in this arc. It’s expert writing on Gege’s part and I’m speaking as someone who has been a lil lukewarm to JJK so far, at least in season 1’s content. I’ve now got high hopes for everything that lies ahead!
I was one of the people that felt that there was more to be desired when it came to Geto's downfall, feeling like just one more episode could've helped it feel more natural (Tho that may be because I made the mistake of accidentally skipping the post credits scene of episode 4). But yeah this video really helped me see it from a different perspective. I'm positive I'll love HI even more on rewatch. Great video as always AJ!
Thank You for the awesome Geto video! ❤ I’ve gotten a whole new perspective on him and his desire to have a place to belong. Geto’s tragic fall reminds me of Junpei. They both lived lives of torment and tragedy to pass away to soon. However, the few good people who got to know them and live on (Gojo, Principal Yaga, Yuji, that one teacher) are moving forward and working to make a future where no one can so horrifically fall like those two have 😢😊
Episode 5 of S2 is such a masterclass! Getou's transformation was heartbreaking while I was able to understand him. I really liked the way they did the conforntration b/w him & Gojo in a more cheerful compared to the dark tone in JJk 0. Getou was at peace with his choice.
Essentially, Geto was forced by sorcerer codes to continue recycling the literal matter of human curses, only to find that he couldn’t emotionally bear the absence of any repatriation in his lane. So he broke from it and threw the knife back at those he’s supposed to protect.
Great analysis as always! One thing though, I don't think Riko (or her maid/bodyguard) was a non-sorcerer. She was able to see Geto's curses and was aware of the existence of shikigamis. She was also born to be Tengen's vessel. By "non-sorcerers", I think Geto means those who are basically Muggles (to use the Harry Potter term) or ordinary people who can't see curses or control cursed energy. Ijichi and the other managers at the jujutsu schools are also not active sorcerers (and many in the clans don't act as active duty sorcerers) but they wouldn't fall under the non-sorcerer umbrella. I guess it's like mutants and non-mutants -- the X-Men would be active sorcerers but other mutants who aren't trained to fight are still mutants.
10:22 Just wanted to say that riko falls under the sorcerer category of those geto values. She and other windows can see curses and interact with them. Also I dont think the star plasma vessel for a sorcerer like tengen would be considered non-sorcerer
The entire conundrum of Getou was so beautiful portrayed in the anime, even better than the manga imo. Tying everything together between his mindset and current events was beautifully done
I thought i had seen so many Geto's analysis that i ought to get sick if i see another one. But i get through your video without pause, absolutely encaptured. The narrative and the editing is brilliant! Good work right here ❤
I love this. I don’t follow this series but I watched these 5 episodes of s2 and skimmed through the movie merely for the duo’s character designs at first. Boy was I rewarded much with this arc of the story. Geto’s character arc is simply heartbreaking. I read criticism from some about how fast and unconvincing his switch flipping was, but I totally disagree and your video shows how it’s not in the slightest. Loneliness is what pushed him and that is never quantified by time. At least not on terms of duration but rather on terms of what specific period of time it hits. It’s a very realistic depiction of what a troubled mindset and a lack of purpose in a person who is left alone, behind and isolated can lead to. We see it every day in lonely men going haywire against society and other people. Thank you so much for writing and sharing this.
You are the best. Your hatsu is clearly to manifest our rambling thoughts into something understable. I discovered your channel many years ago with your analysis on the Royal guards. And time to time I like to watch some of your videos. Especially, your video about Aomine which is so beautiful.❤ Thanks so much for everything !!!!
Thanks for making this video, I really couldn't figure him out well and therefore I hated him. But now, I feel so bad for him and wished I could give him a big hug.
God man tssskkkk it’s just such a crushing thing to watch characters like this that thought they were put together, and had everything they desired, yet there’s just something they don’t have which they obsess over, but i feel like Geto, with longer term friends that he can confide, and confess in over the passing concern, and Yuki, kind of liberated, and set free Geto, in a awful way even if she meant it more positive, which she thought was reciprocated by just sitting down and talking with him, but it also is the main reason he fully snapped save for everything that happened with Toji, and Riko, still Yuki, didn’t realize fully she wasn’t giving him good messages since she just thought he needed a talking to to make him contextualize, the way he was feeling, and to find acceptance from being a broken mess like Itadori, had to do after losing some people in Shiybuya, which thankfully from Yuki’’s, student Todo, he was a positive impact on Yuji’s mental health opposed to it being negative for Geto, so there’s a parallel there in of itself which makes them fighting fitting given how they have both been burned but despite it being kenkaku, we still know the soul of Geto, has remnants within his body, as seen from his interaction with Gojo, before sealing him, Geto, himself he wanted to feel like a savior, and have forever happiness that destroyed him when things started crumbling down around him he couldn’t stand it because he kept degrading into negative feelings, and thoughts. Eren, Asriel, he wanted to be free from the underground but was pressured to do anything to gain that despite what it would do to himself he was messed with mentally that he was just a vessel for the supposed angel which he was seen as a demon despite having all the noble reasons. Haltman, he was just interested in getting his daughter back that he was so blindly by that desire he couldn’t even recognize her when she was right in front of him, and made her do his bidding unknowingly. Akechi, he wanted to be socially accepted so that he could feel true to himself and feel alive, plus possibly get actual recognition from his neglect father that just saw him as a tool, and a underling.
That’s how I feel about him too. Even if Riko didn’t die his curse technique would have driven him crazy and or Haibars dying or if not him someone else would have driven him to darkness
Great video as always🙌🏾 My biggest question coming into season 2 was what changed Geto??? And this arc answered that question in such a satisfying, heartbreaking, and enlightened manner. This arc really took jujutsu Kaisen to a different level of enjoyment and satisfaction for me. Again, wonderful video
Unfortunately I don’t take video requests from comments and I don’t have any plans for MHA content, sorry about that! But I hope you enjoy this one! Thanks for the support :)
Despite being kinda rushed, it's important to know that the monkey shower scene wasn't really Geto's downfall. Geto actually went downhill when he killed those people in the village. I love how Geto's downhill spiral took 1+ year to happen and he felt conflicted during all this time. Geto really needed a hug, a helping hand. He felt alone when Gojo became so strong that the strongest duo ceased to exist. I can't help but feel a bit of hatred towards Yuki for how senseless she behaved around Geto, even tho i don't think she had ill intentions by just respoding a question raised by him.
She was a researcher and simply exploring a hypothetical without assigning a moral judgement to it. It was an objective assessment of the various options available to her. She doesn't know Geto or the extent of his negative emotions, or his moral quandary, beyond a superficial belief.
In my opinion geto isn't morally that much worse than gojo. Him being a villain is just how the story is told. it's the perspektiv. How get's to live is something the series discusses in a lot of Philosophy's. I mean Megumi's "i get to chose who i safe" is extremly similar to geto's position. Gojo has no strong philosophical framework of who get's to live, he murders on gut feeling and risks the lifes of his student. He is the most powerful charakter in the series but his goal of changing the jujutsu society is comparatively small. In a world were you can't safe everyone, saving the people you care about is'nt evil but logical. His radical and machiavellian Way of pursuing his goal, make him seem like a evil person and from the perspektiv of yuta his is obviously a villain. But his has one of the best, most thought-out ethical systems. And with one of the coolest powers he is definitely one of my favorite characters, in this series of greatly designed charakter.
Geto IS morally much worse than Gojo. Gojo has changed since his past but Gojo will refrain from killing "innocents" so long as they don't take part in the deaths of the people he cares about. Geto eventually came to the conclusion that non-jujutsu humans are sub-human and are not worth life. He's given up on humanity. Gojo's goal is comparatively small because he has his morals intact. When Geto had that talk with Gojo on the streets this is what he was implying. Gojo can "solve" all of their problems with the type of power he has in an instant by going all "scorched earth", yet he wouldn't do so, because it's not a line he's willing to cross. Instead, Gojo feels like the source of the problem is Jujutsu and prefers to clean out the old heads by cultivating the new generation. If that doesn't work, he'll clean-sweep the old heads anyway if pushed enough. Geto, while trying his utmost to stay away from that line eventually crossed it, blaming the whole of humanity for the death of someone he cared about.
The mistake he made was trying to attach a moral compass/ultimatum to what he does as a JJ Sorcerer. As a person dealing with cursed energy which we know stems from Man's negative emotions, he should have known better. We see this addressed multiple times throughout the story (including the examples you've mentioned, and even with Nobara and Yuuji's talk when Yuuji started to feel guilt over killing the Cursed womb brothers at Haunted bungee jump site). But alas, emotions and truama are hard to control and multiple factors did not let Geto's conflicting emotions resolve themselves smoothly. I still agree with the others though. Geto's resolve may be likened to those of Megumi for instance, but were taken to the very extreme and far less logical as a result. Completely immoral too. He became what made him change itfp.
I would also like to point out with Riko, we find out tengema finds another person. So her death, the cheers for it etc all were for a death that didn’t even have a goal. She died and nothing changed other than the suffering inflicted
There's a book called 'The Anatomy of Human Destructiveness' by Eric Fromm that I think explains Geto's transcendence pretty well. Where he once sought transcendence in creation, due to his alienation (see Fromm's theory on Alienation/Freedom), he chose to find transcendence through destruction, but in a way, saw this as creation too - as he was making a new world for his kind... Overcoming alienation
maybe if he had found a way to consume only certain curses, things would have turned out differently. A great deal of his hate for curses is their taste and that he always had to eat them. He never once considered the possibility that he doesn't have to eat every curse he comes across or that he doesn't need to be that level of powerful to still be useful to those he cares about.
i thought his turn during season 2 felt too quick and abrupt but ur analysis helped me understand a lot of his nuances that makes his turn feel very natural, cheers!
Unless I'm just really tired and misunderstood, my only correction here is that Riko was a sorcerer. She couldn't fight, but she could *see* Cursed Spirits. She was a Shaman, same as Geto and Gojo. Her death was the death of a Shaman at the hands of non-Shaman Great video, though! Tragic and thorough breakdown of his character. Geto is definitely my favorite for a reason
Riko was a Non Combat sorcerer Like Shoko or if I were to give an Extreme Example, Tengen. Tengen can't fight but is extremely powerful in terms of barrier techniques.
geto in reality is very relatable, he is like a worker who clean a city, but he clean the city for people who can not and do not want to clean their own sh!t, so he realizes that those people who not only create thrash that need to be cleaned, also develop the death of his companions and every person with the capabilities to clean their sh!t, end up in with the solution to only develop a society who can clean the sh!t they produce, otherwise the should be killed, and this is some kind of being above and below in the society at the same time, he can chose continue cleaning the thrash or he can erase the ones who produce them, if there could be an option to teach those people to clean thei thrash then mostly i think get will chose the dictator or military man, instead the one who erase the source of the trash. it is pretty relatable, he had to choose, and he have chosen the human way to do some things, gojo will not understand it because he is one of a kind, but geto is just another of the mass in that world, it is a history similar to the one of the anime where a guy has a ring who can throw blue flammes, at the end of that anime, his friend was killing people because he were tired of being the "fixer" for the shady things in the government, his friend stop him killing him, and just continue working for the government.
I woulda done the same just earlier💀 as soon as they clap bout riko is murder. Its also really interestin dat Geto repeats Haibara’s phrase word for word in the Japanese manga, statin he’s “doin his best at something he’s good at”, n sayin dats his reason, his callin, n if gojo chooses to strike him down there, that’d be fair, since it’d be no different than his own efforts of fulfillin his ideals/duty.
Amazing video you really put a lot of things together that i was confused about. I know it's still early in the anime but JJK has insane potential to get on the level of HxH potentially
Gojo can openly burst out his frustration/anger whenever he was disappointed in sorcerer or non sorcerer while Geto is just absorbing all the anger, frustration, hurt that affects his mind deeply. Surely, there are lots of arguments in his mind before he decided his main goal.
I honestly think that if I was in Geto’s place, I would’ve ended up going down the same path as he did… His situation of slowly losing the meaning of things and realising how shitty the world actually is actually so reletable... Damn, I’m really sorry that no one could understand or listen to him, when he needed it the most.. it’s tragic, but so real at the same time.

@@newt2120 Kino is a slang made by 4chan from the word "Cinematic"
@@ii7559 Kino is literally german for cinema, "4chan" didnt make it up or anything
Why did I think Kino’s Journey was the context here 😂
Only Kino I know is Kino der Toten
Part of me doesn't blame Geto that much. Life as a jujutsu sorcerer is just cruel and shitty all over. You either die horribly like Haibara or quit like Nanami. Nobody appreciates what you're doing in the slightest. These are issues Gojo can't solve just by being the strongest.
Nah, I'd win
I like how both Geto and Gojo come to opposite conclusions, yet those conclusions are kinda inversed from popular conception.
Geto came to believe that every life matters, but only the select few could defend them. Thus he came to inflate the value of himself and sorcerers leading to him to believe that normal humans are worthless. Meanwhile, Gojo came to believe that nothing matters, and thus it was his job to help teach those who still believe that life matters to make things better. Such a fascinating inversion of existentialism vs nihilism.
Wow… never even thought of the series in that way. Nice breakdown
Real concise way of putting it, nice
Yeah when season 2 started and Geto was this dude arguing how much people needed to be protected, I was really fascinated. Especially considering how JJK 0 ended with Gojo saying something like "you were always the one with the soft heart", theyre awesome foils for eachother (and it adds so much interesting subtext to what Gojo's intentions are with his students in the modern day)
YES EXACTLY THAT!! 👏🏽
Geto is such a great character despite his relative lack of presence in the overall story.
he doesn't show up as much as some other villains but it's undeniable that who he is, the decisions he made, his past friendship with gojo, etc have long term impacts on the story, and that's one of my favorite things about him
Wait till you see that happens later on
Geto is easily one of the best villains in anime/manga, Akutami did such an amazing job with the character he reminds me of Shinobu Sensui from Yu Yu Hakusho. Not surprising considering Sensui actually was the inspiration for Geto which blew my mind when I found out about this.
When did he say that?
@@jeffreyali1456 As I recall it was during an interview with Fuji TV to celebrate JJK's special award.
Ohh I guess that make sense since he is a fan of h x h but didn’t know Geto was inspired by sensui never thought I’d see that name again now that u mention I can see the similarities surprised I didn’t see it before
That actually makes a fuck ton of sense since Chapter Black tapes turned Sensei into a misanthropic person.
A poignant and compelling character.
wow you write so beautifully
When aleczandxr's villian videos are always a treat
At first I was disappointed at Geto's heel turn as it wasn't the slow burn I was expecting. But the more I've engaged with it the more I've come to appreciate it. It's an engaging and more realistic execution of the ethos of 'One Bad Day' described in The Killing Joke whereby the stars can align in a way that can turn a good, well-meaning person into a monster. There's also a tragedy of the biggest source of his downfall being a lack of a shoulder to lean on and a difficulty to cry out for help when he needed it most.
4 episodes and a movie is a pretty slow burn bro. that's almost 3hrs of content.
@@JoJoZaka Realistically, Geto's heel turn only took up 30 minutes of content.
I mean it took a year in universe I dont expect them to drag that out over tons of episode in such a short arc @@whodatboi2567
geto is probably my favorite character.
imo this is a cautionary tale. people need other people to lean on for support. while I like gojo, his neglect for geto when geto was in the worst state of mind is something that... well, pains me. how maybe, just maybe, if gojo had probed more, he could get geto to open up BEFORE he makes a decision. if they had a deep conversation about what to do, things could've been different. maybe I'm this affected by it bc the gojo-geto friendship (crush?) dynamic was really fun to watch, idk.
i know that if it had been solved differently, the story would lose some of it's ''edge'', if that makes sense. it wouldn't be as interesting, right?
I'm surprised that gojo is able to still be cheerful after everything and that he didnt become jaded
Gojo isn't to blame for Geto's defection
Hidden Inventory is like the cherry on top of The Night Parade of 100 Demons. Going back and seeing what caused Geto’s downfall makes his passing that much more sad.
Gotta say the staff did an amazing job on episode 5. The perfect representation of Geto.
I literally just yesterday binged all of jjk so glad to see my fav youtuber made analysis on what i found most interesting last night
Hope you enjoy the video, and most importantly, enjoyed the series!

It's kind of crazy that you published this video because I was thinking of making an analysis on Geto and have been obsessing over the character since watching s2.
I read this in a JJK fanfic and I think this really applies here:
"This whole Jujutsu thing, it's not for everyone. The pressure of it all, some people will cracked and broken by it. It brings endless death and bloodshed. Even if you succeed, there will still be cold, miserable failure somewhere in there, and above all else, it's a thankless job. Those of us who can handle it just have to accept that and keep going forward."
Can you tell the name? If you know it?
@@chijin-0828 I'm sorry but I don't remember the name
People curse eachother in our world too, just through sheer lack of empathy. I certainly do understand his point of view, as true understanding and compassion is an impossible ideal. Really cant blame him... not sure what to make of that. Worked at a hospital and I firsthand saw the lack of true care from people who were in positions to give care..
Definetly a classic in the making of yours. Gojo and Geto’s mirrored fates are deeply tragic and at points very disturbing. Your summary of the key points that changed these two men really bring everything into perspective for me ^^

Great video. Hope you do more jjk character analysis, I’ve always liked how layered their characters are
I was one of the people that felt that there was more to be desired when it came to Geto's downfall, feeling like just one more episode could've helped it feel more natural (Tho that may be because I made the mistake of accidentally skipping the post credits scene of episode 4). But yeah this video really helped me see it from a different perspective. I'm positive I'll love HI even more on rewatch. Great video as always AJ!

I’ve gotten a whole new perspective on him and his desire to have a place to belong.

I miss Geto so much.
I'm absolutely delighted to hear you enjoy jujutsu Kaisen it's the spiritual successor to hunter hunter in my opinion
Seems more like Yu Yu Hakusho to me. It's made by the same author and still an iconic series.
Yeah I’ve added a pinned comment about that, thanks. How was the rest of the video?

Wonderful done, Alec 👏 Man, do I love this story.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Geto is a well-written example of a black-and-white idealistic character who got crushed by grey reality
Gojo had Six Eyes - but none were on Geto. despite the ability to see the flow of cursed energy, he was blind to the pain and despair of his friend.
Geto never stood a chance, that is why I find him so compelling. An infinitely sad outcome that literally no one can change (+Kenjaku)
That’s how I feel about him too. Even if Riko didn’t die his curse technique would have driven him crazy and or Haibars dying or if not him someone else would have driven him to darkness

He is definitely morally worse. He's literally wizard hitler.
Isn't he trying to put non-sorcerers under apartheid rule as a general goal?
He is killing innocent people .
More JJK videos. IDK how a series this popular can be simultaneously criminally underrated.
Seriously what jujustu sorcerers need are therapist
maybe if he had found a way to consume only certain curses, things would have turned out differently. A great deal of his hate for curses is their taste and that he always had to eat them. He never once considered the possibility that he doesn't have to eat every curse he comes across or that he doesn't need to be that level of powerful to still be useful to those he cares about.

Unless I'm just really tired and misunderstood, my only correction here is that Riko was a sorcerer.
She couldn't fight, but she could *see* Cursed Spirits. She was a Shaman, same as Geto and Gojo. Her death was the death of a Shaman at the hands of non-Shaman
Great video, though! Tragic and thorough breakdown of his character. Geto is definitely my favorite for a reason
Yeah, I corrected that in the pinned comment. Glad you enjoyed the video!
Riko was a Non Combat sorcerer
Like Shoko or if I were to give an Extreme Example, Tengen.
SICK THUMBNAIL

Its also really interestin dat Geto repeats Haibara’s phrase word for word in the Japanese manga, statin he’s “doin his best at something he’s good at”, n sayin dats his reason, his callin, n if gojo chooses to strike him down there, that’d be fair, since it’d be no different than his own efforts of fulfillin his ideals/duty.
I LOVE that detail with Geto fixating on Haibara’s words. Really shows where he comes from/how heartfelt he is.
Damn, I’m really sorry that no one could understand or listen to him, when he needed it the most.. it’s tragic, but so real at the same time.
me only watching this video to have an excuse to explain why I totally stan him
Geto and Toji are easily my favorite characters.
Toji is AMAZING! Had to do my first vid on him (and Maki ofc)
Loving the endwalker music
Wow. Missed this. Great character.
