- Part 7 of the "let's race Grand Prix Legends" series. This is the 1965 Monaco Grand Prix! Finally another championship round. See how I do in the more prestigious of Grand Prix and if I'm able to bounce back and score points after the disappointment in South Africa.
The sim is Grand Prix Legends, or GPL for short. Everything I use in this video for modifications can be found at SRMZ.net. These guys are seriously great and probably one of the best communities around.
I really like your videos. I am doing a similar race course league series in my hobby shop, Monster Hobbies in High River, Alberta, Canada, and I am rebuilding these tracks using Carrera 1/32 digital slot Cars and original 1965 Strombecker track plans from Model Car and track magazine, 1965. On February 4th, we will be racing our cars in Monaco as well, and looking at this video gives me a good understanding of the scenery back then as well as how tricky the course is. Thanx for the good work. I'll be watching your other videos for inspiration as well.
You can hear the effort you put into it in your voice while racing. Just pure passion and driving. That's why I like your GPs.

yes, the AI cars in GPL do some strange things. They do perform to some sort of simulation spec, but only in regards to how quickly they can do laps. Their ability to change lanes and things is not governed by these same rules. Unfortunately the sim being from 1998 limits some things. Still better than many other racing games though!

yes, it was basically this layout from the 1920s until 1971, then the swimming pool was added which changed the course quite a bit.

Little tip: The tacho is crooked so that the ideal point for changing gears is when the needle is right on the top. No need to go past 11 000.

The black bars are cropped in the video, they are still there when I am really racing. For the camera turning that is done with my actual head using Trackir.
After many years of playing, I just noticed the gear shifts before the hand touches the shifter hahah. Good driving man.
Well raced Richie; Ferrari must be proud - you upset the historical perspective by keeping Stewart out of 3rd! This bodes very well for the rest of your season ... I am beginning to settle into the Brabham team; but still very much the lesser team member behind Dan Gurney and Jack himself. I am still grateful to have a factory drive, though. See you at Spa!

I watched the Hungarian F1 last weekend. this was more exciting! Lot's of updates to GPL in the last few years it looks like.
I reccomend it, and i definitely reccomend using the installer that GPLaps has linked in the description. it's a whole A$15, and it's more fun that most racing games out there still :)
The swimming pool section was actually added for 1973, but yeah... Around that time.
I love watching your vids, your an awesome driver. This is the second time i'm watching them through. One minor not I will say is sometimes you arnt aggressive enough I don't think.

What's the guitar piece playing at the beginning and at the end ?
I thought that Monaco has always had the same track layout, but obviously back then it had a few less chicanes.

No, definitely not. BUT do get a wheel! It absolutely kicks ass with a wheel.
Back in they days, my PC couldn't handle GPL, and it was the only real sim game, so I'd have had to buy a wheel just for gpl. So I didn't. Then I forgot about it., Then re-discovered and was put off by how dated it looked. I'm not a gfx whore at all, I play roguelikes and everything, but it's different when you re-visit something that was top notch 10 years ago and realize it looks bland now.
Anyway, this video is at least as exciting as watching real on-board footage. Amazing. Going to get GPL.
well this game is very old, I think its over 10 years old, so you wont find any online racing like iracing for sure, and theres only this 1 series of old f1 cars. The wrecks are pretty good for such an old game.
yes there are a variety of things that can go wrong, most commonly gearbox/engine

Yea but the alternative would induce alot of delay.
You actually shifting would trigger the animation then you would have to wait for it to finish to take effect!
i loved it i aso like the sim dut moved away to r factor with more cars but i miss the old fi ferari tooo an theres no monaco i think or silkverstone but u ever do nurburge that wasnt as tight racing buit vast sraght i got it dos it work in windows 8 d x 11 ? also find key board 2 fiinger faster than a wheel

I download this game few weeks ago, got it all set up perfectly, but then... HELL, this game is definitely NOT for keyboard racers... -.-!

How do you get your menu screen into 4:3? Mine is always stretched and I don't like it. I wish I could have 4:3 menus then 16:9 for the game. Or do you edit it later?
I got this mod, and I am playing on pro level, but the AI make such poor starts, what should I do? I struggle a lot on qualifying but on the races is to easy to win.

Could you please share your gpl mods and settings? How did you get rid of the black bottom and top bars? What settings or mods for the camera-steering turn?

How do you drive competitively? I haven't been using GPL for that long. I am able to drive around without leaving the circuit, but i am trailing around at the back, and no matter how hard i push im no wear near even the mid field. I have changed the difficulty using GEM+2 but it does no good. What am i doing wrong?
I have this game but it's so old I can't run it on todays PC's, I really want to play it again, what do I have to do?
at that time Papyrus made all good racing games, EA destroyed it. Now some ppl form papyrus working at Iracing

search for the gpl installer 1.04 to run it (u need original cd), or go to thepiratebay and serch for grand prix legends. theres a torrent wich is name grand prix legends + installer (if u haave original cd i guess its okay to download it). theres another option wich i dont really like but some do wich is download GPL2004 demo (it comes with one track and good graphics but u can copy original tracks from cd to the demo).
