You should note that after testing it out I found that the GPS didn't work well using the soft serial option, so I recommend to use the "normal" UART port for the GPS and the softserial for the VTX smart control.

@@blessingpeace No, the Vin and Vout pads are in charge of overlaying the OSD over your video feed and have nothing to do with the UART pads. I meant that you should use the soft serial pads for VTX smart control and the "real" pads for connecting a GPS. I hope now it's clear :-)

Figured it all out tonight! It did work finally putting GPS on UART2 and then just mapping one pad (LED) over to smart audio control. Worth noting I also had trouble getting gps fix with mount location hovering near and over top the vtx and with no obstruction above the gps. Once I moved the gps fwd and at least 1/2 inch away from vtx (very tight build on a 2s 3inch toothpick frame so I ended up out front as I have vtx on top and radio antenna out back. It gets the fix fast now and is just a little b-180. Thanks for all your help Gal!
Great info. I am trying to use walksnail digital vtx. I have it working with my F405 board and F722 board. Now I want to move back to F411 to save weight and power consumption for endurance record breaking. The softserial here saves my day.

Thanks Gal for this vid. I just tried EVERYTHING to make this work on a Beitian 220 and also a 180 - two different units. I can't get the darn things to talk with flight controller on my Crux 35 analog rig that runs ELRS on an SPI. Its got IRC Tramp on Tx2. I tried Tx1/Rx1 (UART1 is empty as RX is on SPI) for both GPS's and swapped wires thinking perhaps i wired backwards. I get power to both GPS units, the 220 gets solid blue/red led's and the 180 gets a blinking blue led. Either way neither will activate the GPS yellow icon in Betaflight to indicate they are communicating to the FC. I even thought maybe Tx1/Rx1 can't be used when running SPI Rx setup so I did the soft serial using LED 1 (C13) and Rx 2 (A03) --- no dice there either. Just can't seem to get communication going for some odd reason very frustrating stuff appreciate any advice! I tried all the different BAUD rates, etc
Update - i have a spare FC with ELRS SPI and connected up to it Rx1/Tx1 -- the BN220 with solid blue/red LED is definitely shot - its faulty. But the BN 180 worked just fine was seen by Betaflight and had GPS Fix in 2 minutes or less. Somehow the UART1 on my CRUX3.5 is crap, or it crapped the bed i guess -- very odd though -- why wouldn't I be able to map over to a Soft Serial then using LED1 and RX2. If TX2 is in use by VTX, does that mean RX2 is now off limits even though nothing gets soldered to that pot for the VTX? I noticed all the RX/TX serial ports also have a PPM or PWM mapped to them - could this have anything to do with it. Do I need to map a PPM or PWM to the Soft Serial port when I create it IE put a PPM on TX11 and RX11 (as in the LED1 didn't have a PPM or PWM designation so does that mean it would not communicate a TX/RX signal? I don't think thats the case as you changed Motor 5 over -- but I guess motor 5 might have a PWM assigned to it as a brushless motor driver.... argh confused still but some progress at least.
Hi Christian, my pleasure. Yes, it should work - just keep in mind that the PPM pad might be mapped to the same resource of another RX pad, and if it's in use, you won't be able to use it.

hey, i was hoping to add gps to a mamba f405 mk2 board, but i found out that tx1 and sbus solution does not work because tx1 is not broken out. even though it shows uart 1, i'm guessing maybe its sharing uart1 with usb socket?. anyway, i could live without telemetry on crossfire, its really awful and i dont even have it on osd now. so maybe i could use crossfires uart for gps and maybe find a way to use tx1 or some other resource to give mme crappy tbs telemetry.
@@KremerFPV hey man, you replied on another post almost immediately thanks, it turned out i found a video titled how to do it, and in the notes it said it didnt work.... anyway, the mamba f405 mk2 stack only has 2 uarts, the third is not active and the sbus tx function does not work. i had to buy another fc to get it hooked up but struggled to get ports to work normally, then rcschim told me to use presets in bf, which worked but only if you search the bf presets tab for ''wtfos'' thanks for the reply ... remember late or not, the next guy gets to read this and it helps.

My uart1 and 2 isnt working on DJI plug on FC. Can i move uart2 to SCL and SDA pads to connect GPS to that then just remove my compass.. didnt work ugh

Yes some GPS won't work using soft serial, in my experience. You can use the soft serial option for other accessories such as a radio receiver, DJI VTX, Smart VTX control and etc.

Do not use soft serial for DJI/Caddx Air Unit/Vista OSD. It is not only for the OSD elements but also whether the drone is armed or not. I lost video due to my vista overheating. It would not normally black out once it has detected that I have armed, but due to the slower baud rate it did not know. Down I went, almost lost it

Thanks, re-assigned LED pad to TX1 as only had rx for sbus. And uart2 for ELRS and uart3 for DJI vista. (only has uarts 1, 2, and 3. There was no tx1)

Yes, you don't have to use softserial for that - just remap the pads and you should be good to go.

what should i do if my ports tab is numbered 1,3, and 6? i'm trying to get dji full osd and the cli commands dont recognise any of my ports.
The number in the CLI is the port number in the tab minus 1 - 1 is 0, 3 is 2 and 6 is 5.

Hi, I would put the Vista. Worst case you will lose the OSD :-)

It might work but I didn't test it. Anyway - I don't recommend connecting the GPS to a softserial port as in my experience it's not working properly.

Thanks a lot! As far as I know, in order to take full advantage of a GPS unit in iNav it needs to have a compass as well.

Keep in mind that using the soft serial option for connecting the Vista will result in a flickering OSD, at least using the latest firmware version.

Yes, but it's not very reliable for GPS usage. I suggest using it for VTX Smart control.

So, im trying yo connect my gps rescue, i have a mamba F405osd it only has 3 uarts, 1 is use for the receiver (Frsky,sbus,etc) 2 im using for the crossfire Rx and TX 2 and the 3rd onr im using for DJI vista..... What can i do in this case?? (hope to get some help)
If you have a softserial pad (such as an LED pad) you can use it for the CRSF RX, without the TX.

hello I have a fc betafpv aio 20ampere v3, I can't get the gps to work, it doesn't identify it, by default in port it already has a softserial, I connected the gps to rx6 and tx6 but it doesn't work, do you have any advice?
