I love Nathan Lane. I went to Catholic school with him in Jersey City and he did imitations of the nuns. He was Joe Lane and played Bob Cratchit in the Christmas Carol when he was in the 6th grade and I was in 8th grade and played Jacob Marley's ghost. His first play- he was great even as a little kid. He worked a long time before he got attention.

Nathan Lane is the funniest, most open and authentic interview I’ve ever enjoyed. It would have been so awesome to see him do something with Carrie Fisher. Her line about why her life, which had so much tragedy, was played for laughs, came to mind hearing Nathan talk about his teen years with his mother......she said, if it wasn’t funny, it would just be true. They both have that same generosity of spirit. Awesome interview, and he and Joy had great chemistry.

It's very seldom one sits on the edge of one's chair eagerly waiting for the next line. Spontaneous wit is such a treat to behold and a wonderful gift to possess. This is one of the very best 92Y offerings.

Fascinating. Years ago I lived at 89th st and Lexington Ave, 2 1/2 blocks from the 92nd St Y. What a resource and I failed to take advantage of it. Actually, now that I think of it, I met the woman I married and lived with on 89th St AT that very Y just about 1 year earlier at a party on the roof of that Y. Screwed that up too. Oh to be that young again and/or relive some of those days. Well, RUclips is an almost adequate substitution today.

@@mpeindms I'm sorry. I hope you don't dwell too much on the past and continue growing. If you have family and friends, be sure to keep in contact, have get togethers, share stories, and laugh together (without forcing it too much of course). Life is NOW too. You deserve to be loved (whether it's by friends, family, and/or a significant other). To continue to be productive and social is best for your mental and physical health and will give you a more enjoyable and less stressful life. People who don't socialize later in their life tend to get sick very easily.

Just a little addition to your statement... joy just brings out the responses from her guests with her style and manner. She has a gift that draws them out in such a human way, and she sprinkles in comic levity like sugar coating donuts! She is a treasure as well.

Just saw this interview 3/4/20 on RUclips. What a wonderful time I had listening and watching both Joy and Nathan . Nathan demonstrated his great ability to communicate his feelings, laughter and deeper feeling he gets from being an actor. Very enjoyable to hear such honesty from his experiences. Joy did a great job of being there to interview and to be a great soul in her own right. Thank you.

When I encounter Nathan Lane on any screen, my day immediately improves. He never fails to make me feel happy, even on my toughest days. I enjoyed watching him in this interview in particular because he explains how much and why he loved the challenge of The Iceman Cometh as well as his relationship with his mother. His extraordinary life and talent has given joy to more people than he can ever know.

I will watch more of these 92Y videos, I do not understand why they don't have more views,Thank you really very much for sharing this.

Thank you for being so observant, to understand Lane's nuances. What I take away from your notes is that he realized "everyone is capable of change." Lane is from "the Bill Marr School" of comedy both uproariously & cerebrally funny. And the 92Y audience response was in accord and appropriate. They listened and responded; they got it.

The empty headed 'Joy' ' ( ironically named?) cliche mouths " Ohoy everybody was bi polar..." And . Then. With his great dramatic gifts ( and excessive courtesy in bertween the rude { and boring } interuptions) Lane tells this horrific and Tragic family tale worthy of O'Neil in 'Long Days Journey'. Bravo for Lane;. Bronx cheer for Behar - rrorshow.

Oh, Christ, speaking of Brian Dennehy, I think the worst performance I've ever seen on stage was him in Death of Salesman. Talk about bad casting. The character of the salesman is this beaten down old man and instead we had Dennehy lumbering around on stage spitting in the actors' faces, all 500 pounds of him! BTW, if you ever see actors inadvertently spitting on stage it's usually because they haven't a clue as to what they're doing and so instead they try to act "intense," which is why the spitting happens. :-)
