Except for the wooden bridge and lipstick pickup this looks more like a Valco-built, Wards"Airline" lap steel. I saw an actual vintage Danelectro lap steel at a musical instrument auction once and the cover of the lipstick pickup was used as the actual bridge saddle, with the strings resting directly on the pickup cover (it didn't have notches to keep the string spacing from shifting or to fine-tune intonation). That vintage dano probably didn't sound very good because there would be very little string motion to drive the pickup at that point; it would probably function more like an undersaddle contact pickup....

Tulip wood.... Very expensive but stunning. Smells good when cut too! Never heard of hyedua. Looks very nice. If you are using laquer, you can first seal the wood with tung oil. Laquer will stick to tung oil just fine. I used to make flutes and made a drying box because with some woods, it took the tung oil too long to dry. Drying box was lined with alum. foil and heated with 2, 150W bulbs controlled with a heavy duty light dimmer. Works great too!!!

Hyedua for the bridge and nut, American Tulip wood for the rest- i like the tulip wood ,its nice to work with but absorbs a lot of laquer!

Thanks for that! never used Tung oil-will have to give it a go. Tulip wood is really nice timber, just cut a 51 P Bass body from a nice piece of it-natural finish so will try the Tung oil Trick.

Where did you get the decal with the fret markers on it?

Looks well-made but I don't have the tools to construct it. I think it would require a master woodsmith.
