Nice review, sir. Esp, being da 1st reviewer to review this iem. Thanks for da infos & I truly appreciate 'em. FYI, I already pre-ordered it 2 days ago for 2/3 of da full MSRP through a local audio store on an online shopping platform. So, after knowing this, I'm truly lucky to grab this kinda deal, as I'm truly curious what this sub-$100 Moondrop hybrid iem can offer for it's value.
I use spring eartip to increase treble detail for moondrop may but it causes a little bit of harsh, do you know any ear tips that increase treble but not cause harsh (sibilance)
The cable app recognizes the cable. So you can use it with other iems...just dont expect drastic changes to tuning. You can really only do minor tweaks and if its not an iem the cable recognizes, youll be stuck with basic presets or doing it yourself. So keep that in mind. Still a solid video calling cable for mobile phone use and the quality of the cable is really nice. Feels solid and comfy. Premium feeling cable tbh. (Its really just the freedsp cable with may labeling. As i can see the app is the same.) The app is buggy too hence why i gotta edit this. So the trick to it is plugging the cable in only after opening the app. If it bugs out, go to your settings and force stop the application to shut it down. Then open it and plug the cable in again. So keep that in mind too. The app can be a pain
Nice review! I pre ordered these and planning to use it with my Little White neckband. Really looking forward to this because the 3D printed shell was made by the same company who made the Hexa's, which I liked very much. The fact the tuning is very safe is a good thing for me because it can easily be tuned with EQ. Also personally, it's a real looker.
Really nice review ngl. I think im gonna buy this one, even if it doesn't work out i can still use the cable for starfield and have a good IEM for call and chill gaming session.
Ty bruh. And remember not to play any music while plugging the cable into your pc for the first time, cuz again, some genius at moondrop set the volume to 100% at default.
this iem makes me depressed. It's interesting tbh, I used to adore the Bl03, I use them in the lockdown days. As u mentioned, this IEM has a sound that is reminiscent to the blons. Maybe that's the reason.. lockdown is a depressing time.
Cable don't play too much role in affecting the sound generally. However if it is concerning to you, knowing May seem to lack treble energy, then consider getting any Silver Plated cable.
I like this review style of an iem you got, usually they dive more to technical and graph kinda lacks these fun style, new subsriber here I want to ask have you tried kz dfi switch, i like the neutral tuning of dfi especially vocal and treble being detail and thick vocals, will this be an upgrade from it, and personally prefer a little bit more treble and bass than ief 2019 neutral graph
Thank you bruh. Unfortunately I have never tried kz dfi switch (the only KZ iem that i still own, is OG HBB PR2), so I cannot say much on that. The thing about moondrop's tuning is usually very linear and some may find it thin on vocal. While I found the vocal of May (on a 3.5mm cable) is right on my face and there's more than enough bass to carry the rhythm (more than ief 2019, i think), I'd still define it in the "airy" category with planar driver providing extra texture to such vocal.
@@RafikExe It's a weird feeling. While the nature of sound in this set is fundamentally dynamic, but when a song is calling for percussions like triangle, then it's easily to realize that the resolution in those triangles does not belong to the dynamic driver, its a mix with planar's characteristics.

this or aria 2 or any other you recommend... I want to use for office work 😙, i don't have much understanding about audio (anything less than a 100$ plz recommend)

And for the price of aria 2, i'd rather get both Truthear Gate and This, now you can use the cable from gate on this set, not to mention that technically you have two slightly different sound signature to play around with (both are fairly capable).
Oooof, actually never thought of it, and it may be a way to play around it. But at that point, i think i will just go for 3.5mm+dongle to avoid double processing.
Good review! I'm a bit new to the IEM game, but I got into it recently. What do you think of the Aria 2's? They sound good but I don't hear much about them. Has moondrop just been stagnant or something?
Ty bruh. Unfortunately I don't have Aria 2 on hand, so I really can't say much about it. But if it's something similar to Kato, I can see why people not too keen on talking about it, because, if "Great" is the baseline, then only "Exceptional" can surpass expectation. And most possibly, Aria 2 is not for that. Regarding to Moondrop, they're doing great, it's just so obvious that they have some models either targeting a specific group of audience or grabbing money for R&D purposes (you know, the general grab money from niche group of people, and go all-out on products that target the majority, kind of strat). A lil bit off the track, imo & as of now, there's only 4 Moondrop products are META in the hobby: Spacetravel, Chu2, May, Dawn Pro Others are great, but preferences start to kick in.
How did you get the tips onto the May? I have other iems and I've tried their tips as well but can't seem to get those that came with it or others onto the May drivers.
I just use the default eartips. Albeit a little bit tough but its still the same method, just let one corner of the bore enter the eartips first, and then slide the whole ring in.
@catadegen ah I must have zoned out and thought that was the dsp section, oops! @@catadegen thanks a lot bro!
is it good for competitive pc gaming in any way? and do i need a dac or is the cable is enough
At least its very good for me, it's now my go-to iems for apex legends and media consumption in general, replacing te zeroes.
And no, you don't need a dac, the cable IS the dac and it's basically plug-and-play.
If your pc has a type-c port (if not, you may need a usb to type c convertor), you plug it in, pc recognize it as main audio source and you're good to go.
@@catadegen ahh thanks for the answer, im grabbing these too then!
@@eliasthanatos np, remember not to have any song / things playing in the background for the first time plugging into PC, cuz its default at 100% volume out of the box lol
Just to throw this out the eartips of may suck
This set can easily reach $120 in my country (because tax, etc).

We Meet Again, Last time we talked in your Moondrop Chu 2 Video where i was looking for My 1st IEM and here we go Again. Planning to Buy My 2nd IEM
Moondrop Chu 2 is just Good Daily Driver. But I never listen anything i.e. a Planar. So here im looking for your once again. the 1ST review in the whole RUclips on Moondrop May. Last time it was Chu 2 and Now May that you are keeping your 1st post priority.
I like it keep Going ❤❤❤

an upgrade from aria?
Since I don't have aria, i can only compare it to Kato. I think its not a word on word "upgrade", if fact, if we are talk purely based on the quality on dynamic driver, I sincerely don't think May has a better dynamic driver than Kato. But since they are tuned in two completely different way, and May is providing extra treble extension with the planar driver (8kHz +), its hard to tell.
Of course, if we are just talking about comfort, I will take May , 10/10 times :/

my friend, review my 650, or urs 650 lol
One day, not today lol
tryna buy my first iem, should i buy the mays, chu 2, or truthear zero:red?
While all of them have different sound signature and I'm basically daily driving May on a 3.5mm cable, I'd say just go for Chu2 for your first iem, since it set a baseline on what to expect from a pair of good iems in general (not just in $20 range, but everything).
