- Undervolting is really popular for the RTX 3000 series, but it's actually a really good option for GTX cards too! If you do it properly, you’re gonna lose virtually 0 performance or even get an increase, while dramatically reducing heat and power consumption. Today we're featuring a GTX 1080 Asus RoG Strix!
We used MSI Afterburner, here's the download link: www.msi.com/page/Afterburner

Asus Rog Strix 1080:
900mV - 1911Mhz & memory 5300mhz.
Gpu temp: 71°->59°
Cinebench R24: 3909->4189
Forza Horizon 5:
96-104 -> 105-118
And finally no coil whine sound!

I did this and picked up 10fps for my 1% lows in RDR2 at 1440p high settings. Only picked up 2 Average FPS, but my wattage went from 240-250watts down to 190-200 watts and my temps went from 84C down to 70C!!! Thank you!!!
Best one yet thank you!
I'm really happy it was helpful!
These results are unreal for my 1080Ti. In GTA 4 on PC 1440p I was getting temps sky rocketing as high as 79c MAX but usually hovered around 70-75c 95% of the time. I undervolted it to 1852, as 1900 was freezing and crashing in game. I use Fan Control software to control my fan speeds with an aggressive curve and re pasted both my CPU and GPU with Arctic MX-6 about 6 months ago. GTA 4 and PUBG were the only games I ever played that ever pushed my PC to those high temps, no clue why as my case has really good air flow with plenty of fans set up correctly. Anyways this helped a TON. GTA 4 now runs 60-61c TOPS at all times with an OC of +150 as nothing else will take. My 1080Ti is weird AF. Thanks a bunch buddy! Really appreciate you making this video.

Fan Control is so, so good. I use it for a while and now it become one of the software that I can't live without lol.
The best thing is it can show gpu temp in taskbar like Core Temp so now I got CPU package usage, CPU temp, ram usage, and GPU temp always show on my taskbar.
I set my fans to 100 percent my 1080 sits at 40-45 degrees under heavy load it is loud but i have headphones on so don't notice it
Waiting for the last part on my secondary PC, but this video should definitely help with my dell 1080. Thank you sir
Awesome. Subscribed.
Thanks a lot man, for real! :)

I have cooler master 500watt PSU, GTX 1080 Blower Edition.... BTW While Gaming my PC suddenly restart or you can say shutdown and start up in a second... I'm tired I searched on internet actual wattage of this PSU is 360 and My PC wants 384 as the calculator on internet so what should I do or undervote my GPU or power limit to do something... Please help me
Undervolting at 850mV and 1800Mhz with no memory offset will solve your problem!
@@ImWateringPSUs can you show me a picture how to do please ? On your insta or somewhere uplaod image for me
@@ImWateringPSUs same as you did first -300 mem clock then Ctrl + F and from the curve editor selecting 850 node takin up to 1800Mhz and then apply… is it done

875mV - 1898MHz temps are 70c stable
Should I increase the 900mv and 1960mhz
Or should I go 1000mv
Please do tell me
And why 900mv in video
Also by raising the mV also increases temp while my pc smell like burn plastic
after that I just stop test immediately
Can Undervolting raise or decrease fps?
Can we Undervolt the mV to the lowest and I don't wanna try that because I don't want to destroy my pc
The curve editot automatically adjust the marker points after I apply the 1900 at 900. Am I missing something in the settings?
It's normal!
Hi :) I managed to get 1898@900mv and +1000 on the memory, i have the Dell Blower GTX 1080 (same as MSI blower). I got a 10°C difference in comparaison with a normal overclock but i loss an extra +70mhz.

Thanks for this, ima see if i get those extra 5 fps running skyrim. I have to launch and apply this everytime i boot windows right?
Quick question! so i followed along but didn't increase the memory clock yet do I still get a performance boost by settinf the 900MV to 1900MHz?? or do I need to increase the memory clock.
For more performance boost you need the memory!
i am doing an undervolt but i cant get the voltage lower than 750mv no matter how lower i set it, it will bouce back to 750mv, how do i get pass this?
hi, my gtx 1080 is the gigabyte windforce oc edition, and my curve on 900 mV is already around the 1900 MHz mark ? what's up ?
after we do the steps, we can close the program or it need to be running in background?
gratitude bro

I dont get it, I followed along but with Fortnite open, and switched from default, to a pretty aggresive overclock, to this undervolt, and saw no differences in FPS. Am I doing something wrong ? Gigabyte 1070 OC
Undervolt is basically an overclock that also reduces your power consumption/temperature/noise!
Why u did -300 on core clock insteqd of -250 like u did to RTX3060TI. How do u decide the value?
They’re different because the curve is different! The offset is dependant on the delta between the upmost voltage point you’re choosing from the original curve and the flattened one you want to achieve
thx bro i love it
My man! Glad I could help, consider dropping a sub to support the channel :)
Hello what is the watt of a gtx 1080 undervolt ? Thanks
Hi Thanks for the helpful video, could you explain how the 1 & .1 % lows are improved as mentioned at the start of video? thx
My pleasure! Since the frequency doesn’t jump up and down anymore, the framerate is more stable, with less dips. Subscribe to the channel if it was helpful!
@@ImWateringPSUs thanks so much. Also could you advice. If I wanted to set it to stock boost of 1582 what voltage would you say is lowest without causing clock stretching
Hi I have a EVGA GTX 1080 FTW. It is factory overclocked to 2000mhz. I want to undervolt but keep the 2000 mhz frequency, is that possible? What settings should I try?
Yes you can, try 1000mV and subscribe to the channel
Hi , how many fps can gain like that, i mean i have the same Gtx 1080 rog strixx but i dont know how many fps can gain

Yes it is!

i got a quick question tho... altho u undervolt if u raise the mem clock wouldnt that cause the ram to become even hotter then before ? at least the mem hotspots
Increasing the memory clock will slightly increase the heat output of your VRAM, but GDDR5 really doesn't get hot at all so it's not gonna make a difference. You can still perform the UV without the mem offset though!
@@ImWateringPSUs k thx for the info
What I don’t understand, I have a gtx 1080 reference, I set the voltage to 950 mv, but in the game the card shows 1000 mv. That is, nothing changes, what could be the reason? I save my profile, but nothing changes in the game. Please help.😢

Hellooo thank you! Do you know if replacing thermal pads reduce gpu core temp as well?
Generally they aid in the whole cooling of the card, so if the pads are very old yes you can see a small drop in core temp as well
Turn the fan speed up
Whenever i install the latest nvidia driver my whole pc is extremely laggy and the funny part is i have a really good cpu and 16 gbs of ram and whenever i plug in my other graphics card the pc just works fine i tried this it didnt work can someone else help
Sometimes using a bit older drivers is still fine. Or yes, try undervolting as shown in the video
do i download the beta or the final version of afterburner?
Final!
Thanks to this video, now i can survive with R5 2600 OC 4.1GHz and Strix 1080 Advanced Gaming 8GB on a fcked Cooler Master MWE 550W:
1911Mhz & 900mv
Temp max: 70 -> 61
TDP: 185W -> 142W
More importantly, no graphic card shutdown because of lack of power when heavy gaming anymore!
tyvm bro!
I just got a 1080 to replace a 1650, its a ROG second hand but its on pretty good state, didnt expect it to get that hot lol.
Thing is, i did this and worked pretty fine, the game i use to test all of this is MonHun World cuz i believe more that perfomance than a 3d test, but i wanted to ask if i should leave the memory clock at 300 or i can push it a little more? what can happen to the card if i keep pushing it?
Its the first time i do something like this so this guide was gold for me.
You can push it. Do it by increasing it by 100mhz intervals. For example my GTX 1080 can go to 800mhz on memory. But yours could go if its a really good one to 1000mhz or it can go 600. Depends. But yeah there's not gonna be much of a problem if you up the memory clock it will maybe make you restart your PC but that's all you could just downclock it to the safer clock speed. Keep it at 100mhz each test check for 10 minutes each time if there are any artifacts and you are good. Happy Tuning!
how can i save this settings that run in windows startup?
Check my latest RTX 4070 Super Undervolting Tutorial, I show it
Great video..Avg power draw after undervolt?
It can drop even 100W!
Mine 140w Max after undervolting
I have a 1080Ti and my card works the best at 1.05V 2025 mhz
I assume I hava a weird card.
Has anyone tried 800mV undervolt? at what mhz would it be safe to set it to
I’d say at around 1700-1800Mhz depending on how good your silicon is
850 mv - 1830 mhz
825mV - 1800mhz for my GTX 1080
875mV - 1900mhz with stable temps upto 70c
900mV - 1950mhz temps upto 78c
How much watts it was drawing?
a bit late but normally 240-250 wats
I have a gigabyte gtx 1080 and I did 900 with 1897 and didn't crash, I'm not sure if i got better performance but I probably did.
Glad it worked out! :) 1% low fps are higher for sure
Will this reduce coil whine?
Yes it does!
Did it on 1070ti did not get better score
i got artifacts with 1900mhz and 900mv but it got stable with no artifacts with 925mv. that is still ok right?
Yes, perfectly fine but only if you subscribe to the channel :p
Same for me😅 Still less then 1030Mv Stock.
I have a 1080 with temps around 72c, its ok? Or it's too high?
It’s okay but I’d still recommend repasting and repadding, I have a dedicated video on the channel’
72c is nothing to be worried about, my GTX 1080 doesn´t even reach 75c in games after 6 1/2 years of use, no repasting done, 80c would be too high
@@lerutymine always sits at 82 and it’s fine
iirc Pascal card is automatically underclock when you reach more than 54c or smth, so keep your card cooler would be better.
So undervolting would help this a lot. Anyway. 70c to 80c is normal. Not harmful in anyway.
My 1070ti 1920Mhz 4727Mhz 1050mV is sitting around at 65c when full load with BeamNG 4k. No repaste and repad, just 120mm*2 fan mod.
does this decrease the performance? if so, how much?
No performance decrease :)
Is it normal for me to be able to increase the memory clock by +800 without crashing? Is it risky, can it damage my GPU
It’s not normal but you’re lucky! It won’t damage the card if it’s stabke
I can increase the memory clock by 950mhz which is the most stable memory oc i could reach without artifacts and 2075mhz on the core i don't know if I won the silicon lottery with my gtx 1080. is this a normal oc for the most of gtx 1080? @@ImWateringPSUs
@@anonymousa351the memory oc is good, i can do the full 1000 but the core clock speed is insane, on stock voltage I can only do +140mhz stable
Am using gtx 1080 ti. Just use two time. Fist ok. 2nd time screen going freeze. After restart , pc boot but no display. Gpu going heat.
Reset your afterburner and give it 100Mhz less!
EVGA Blower style GTX 1080:
900mV - 1911Mhz & memory 5300mhz.
Gpu temp: 70°→51c°
I am guessing the GTX series doesn’t have the down-clocking ability as the RTX series does. With my RTX 4080 it down-clocks to 245MHz with an idle temp of 24c but with this GTX 1080 (this build belongs to a client who was complaining of temps reaching to the lower 90c. After undervolting & thermal paste replacement the card maxes out at 70c) it only down-clocks to 1607MHz with an idle temp of 51c (unless I crank up the fan speed to around 75% which makes it loud). Other than that issue, the card is 100% stable and performing well.

Hey Guys, maybe someone can give me a hint. I got an MSI GTX 1080 Aero I would like to undervolt to primarily get down the power comsumption. At the moment when torturing it with Furmark (1 min benchmark) it gets up to around 210 Watt and 83 degrees at avg 98 FPS.
I am using the newest version of MSI Afterburner and following the steps from this video in bits and bytes, playing safe and using the 900 mV / 1800 MHz setting, but when applying the changes in MSI Afterburner and rerunning Furmark I end up having even higher heat level and same power consumption, but the FPS drop down to around 85 FPS.
Even tried to adjust the temp and power limits from max back to default (100%/83C) keeping the undervolting curve settings, I get same result
I wonder what I am doing wrong...
Thanks beforehand for any useful tips :-)
