Yeah, I remember "The Faust Tapes". It's still within my 10 favourite records of all times. How German of these TV people to complain about the 6 hour setup of their set :-)
0:01 "After two and a half hours of tinkering, they are finally ready to introduce the rock dilletantism that is being sold as "new sound". A 300,000 mark system cannot hide musical ignorance, it can only reinforce it." Original 1971 German-TV introduction
@Pighood I'd even argue that most german bands from the era (say '69-'75) are simply the best ever: can, faust, amon duul 2, silberbart, guru guru, embryo, early kraftwerk, annexus quam, early popol vuh, spacebox, neu!, cosmic jokers, hairy chapter, cluster, tarot, my solid ground, harmonia, gila, agitation free, ash ra tempel, out of focus.. ah! the list is varied and almost endless. timeless. read lulian cope's 'krautrocksampler'. magic mushrooms and krautrock: like fine wine and fine cheese
@buskerbuoy Old comment, but my understanding is that Faust and their producer got a fairly substantial recording advance and set themselves up in Wumme to rehearse and record what the record company thought would be the German answer to Sgt. Pepper's or something equally commercial. I can imagine they nearly shit themselves once they heard "Why Don't You Eat Carrots?" (track 1 on the first Faust album, and utterly insane).
Good to see them in action after all these years. They could have freaked out a bit more though... A DVD of early material wouldn't go a miss. Keep it up! DIKKO.
i feel the same, but if you really think about it it's up to people like us to really make the effort to come up with progressive music without falling into the progressive genre, therefore being truly progressive. i dont think it's any harder than it was back then...
is "faust jamming in the studio, 1971" the name of the documentary? or what's it called? i'd like to see the rest of the documentary but can't find anything so far...
what a great band.. i love their sound so much
holy crap!!!!! there's like 4 seconds of klaus dinger at the end! NEU! album in the background.
very very good old band......................................................................
I wish all Faust sounded as tasty, tight and rockin' as on these clips!!
This is Faust. They are awesome and cool. If you like them, try another awesome and cool band named Can. Danke!
You can say that again!!! One of my favorite albums.
faust are the shit - sounds awesome to this day and will continue to do so for decades
my favourite in the 70 s

Quite possibly the greatest album in the history of music.
@@westhampshire8219 I agree with you 100%, there's nothing else like it.

100 % true words !!
Wow, that was way more condescending than I was expecting.
They were not impressed with Faust.
I think Bob Dylan said it best; “Don’t criticize what you can’t understand.”

great analogy, and thanks for the list of bands. I know half of them!

faust tapes is a masterpiece is right. 49p inspirational.

This is what I'm into these days. Not Slipknot or Korn .Im over that shit.
Me too.
Despite the exaggerated bashing in this case, one has to say that German TV has never been as critical as in the 70s.
minute 1:39, thie germas stop talking and the music REALLY kicks off! this is one of my favourite Faust clips
i feel the same, but if you really think about it it's up to people like us to really make the effort to come up with progressive music without falling into the progressive genre, therefore being truly progressive. i dont think it's any harder than it was back then...
Correction...it's an ARP 2500.
It says that the first song is miss fortune but i can't find this version. Can anyone help me ?
WHY IS THIS NOT COMPLETE?????
Great rare footage, was that Arnulf on secondary percussion ?
It's a good thing I understood everything the guy said!
@ChrisBrooker Also try Henry Cow, Univers Zero, Art Bears, Aksak Maboul, Etron Fou, Moving Gelatine Plates and many others
Great video (but not exactly rare anymore), thanks for uploading!
the cheaper the condensed vegetable soup you buy, the more potatoes it has in it.
Legends!! It's very rare for a band to fully transport me, but faust manage this easily. Check out my videos for some faust-inspired music.
I’ve been trying to figure out the song they play at 1:38! Is it on any album or bootleg??
I love how there are piles of crap on top of the ARP 2500.
@trojanlol Oh yes, I know Gong all right! I always liked Camembert Electric and the Flying Teapot album, also saw them live quite a few times
is "faust jamming in the studio, 1971" the name of the documentary? or what's it called? i'd like to see the rest of the documentary but can't find anything so far...
WDR broadcested a series of rare compiled footage a few years ago which they named " Kraut und rüben". You might find it there.
KISS THE RING!!
like it!!
Radness .
What's the name of the song at the end of the clip?
the guitarist is only wearing a beard. I'm playing the bongos wearing moustache speedos as i write this
@trojanlol just saw david allen a month ago (: one of the best shows i've ever seen
@bobgreen623 Ha, i dont even remember leaving this post! Also....Harmonia and Cluster are awesome and cool.
The Happy Skinhead was a great track
James Simpson I think it's called The Sad Skinhead.
cool
I am looking for the WDR Docu "Kraut und Rüben" from which this was taken. If you could help me, please send me a mail!
Damn, I wish I understood German!!
Find the site, I've seen a few pirates selling these, but I'll just download the torrent files for FREE, how's that?
Indeed it is. Probably borrowed for the session...they weren't rich.
Which one is Rudolf Sosna?
The blond guy on guitar and vocals. He's dead now unfortunately.
5 people don't eat carrots.
