The funeral cortège then travelled to Newtowncunningham, County Donegal, for the burial ceremony. He was an Irish soldier serving with the UN Peacekeeping Forces in Lebanon. Killed by unknown gunmen for no reason. The Lebanese government has condemned the killing.
Murdered by horrible people. Planned confrontation. Comrades beaten with iron bars, another soldier had concrete blocks dropped on his head multiple times and driver shot clise range after the crash whilst unable to offer any resistance. How the planning and evil people who did this get so little condemnation by us Irish confounds me.
The choreography of Western military funerals are generally very similar. What that has to do with your ludicrous claim that "...the Irish hate the British so much..." escapes me, and every other Irish person who knows our history in the field of UN peacekeeping.
Irish soldiers and British soldiers have mutual respect for each other, some have served in the British military, only a very very tiny portion of the Irish community hate the British, indeed there has a great reapproachment between two countries since 1922 so much so that the Queen had a very warm welcome in Ireland when she visited. To say "copy" is not quite the right world to use, it's a military ritual common to most military organisations, a respect given to one who has died in service of their country, we British have seen enough military funerals to know too much of it, if you are ever in Britain please do visit the National Memorial Arboretum in Alrewas to understand the scale of our national losses including Irishmen and women who died in the cause of freedom.
We don't hate the Brits. History is history and while it's important to remember it, it's also important to move on and build and that's what we're doing.
Sadly they probably do not care. What is important is the Irish people care and know his life was not taken in vain. So sad for his family. A true hero sadly now gone for a while.
