I was a huge fan of David Robinson growing up and I feel like a lot of people remember him as the guy who was destroyed by Hakeem after winning MVP and not getting it done as the go-to-guy and needing Tim Duncan to win a ring. But Robinson never had a true co-star until Duncan was drafted, and David was 32 by then. It's very rare for a franchise type of player to lead a team to a title as the sole star, like Hakeem in 1994 or Dirk in 2011. This video really does the Admiral justice, he was among the best from '89-'96.
"Destroyed"? Only reason it didn't go 7 games was because Horry being the clutch playoff legend he is, hitting game winners for Houston. It was Robinson vs Hakeem, Clyde Drexler (an nba legend), Kenny the jet, Robert Horry going ham late in the games, same with Cassel. Nice video. 1 thing that could be improved - use more side to side stat comparisons while discussing two players. It helps focusing on the topic. You could also add some (but not much) red/green colour to notice better individual stats.
@@inthepaint2907 nah. KD was better in 2014. Curry was better in 2016. In 2017, even with statpads, Westbrook/Harden has better numbers than Lebron. 2018 is definitely Harden in the regular season. 2019, Harden and Giannis are definitely better. Lebron "Best Player": 2009-2013, 2015 Lebron with "MVP formula": 2009,2010,2012,2013. It's fair. Keep sucking Lebron though.
Hakeem In 94, in my opinion had the greatest season all time. Won DYOP, MVP, won the Finals and Finals MVP. He was the best defender without question that season, and took full advantage of Jordan not playing that year. Man I wish I could've saw him and MJ play in the finals
Great video, just wanted to correct the stat line of Shaq in 93-94 (at 6:50 in the video) : he did not average 5.1 apg, but only 2.4apg (if he did, it would have been an easy MVP season imo ! 29-13-5-3 with 60% shooting ?!? Come on ! xD).
Well the 90s were very different from the modern NBA, offenses were actually build around Centers so naturally defenses were also focused on stopping them + spacing wasnt nearly as good as in the modern NBA thus making the paint and post more crowded with defenders so shooting over 50% when always battleing against other Bigs with poor spacing was actually quite the challenge compared to modern Centers where a lot just camp in the dunker spot, waiting for oops and misses that they can clean up
@@tobsixi6702 that basically makes it tougher to score cause today u beat ur man ur at the cup for an easy layup or dunk those days ur 4 and 5 man were in the paint waiting to slam u upside ur head. Yes it was arguably the toughest era so score in in nba history so what jordan did was beyond impressive.
A *HUGE* flaw in your thinking is that stats indicate who the better players are. Not even win shares or PER tell us who the best players are. For example, Kobe gets compared to Jordan all the time, but Kobe's role while Shaq was on the Lakers was more comparable to Pippen, not Jordan. Performing in that role altered Kobe's stats considerably. Was Kobe a *worse* player in the Shaq years? Of course not. And Kobe played at least one season with a broken finger on his shooting hand. That affected his shooting percentage and other stats, but injuries heal over the course of a season and can potentially allow a player to be more effective again - a common happening that isn't reflected in a season's stat line. A player's contribution to winning - to the team's overall record against all other players - HAS to always be considered heavily in determining a player's value. By the way, I think very concept of an MVP award in a team game is fundamentally flawed, but it does sell sneakers. 😉
It’s not a flaw, it’s just the criteria by which he decided to judge. As long as he is consistent with it, it’s not a problem. You can make a different list with different criteria but you have to be consistent with it .
The late 80's through the 90's was the best era for the NBA. That said, in at LEAST the 90's, if not a few years before, MJ was the best and most valuable player every year. He should have 6 MVP's, minimum. Look at the impact he had on his team: The year he retired, the Bulls couldn't even beat the Knicks and get to the East Finals, much less the NBA Finals. Almost the same exact team, added, plus Kukoc, drop Paxon/add Kerr. And if you look at some of the role players, their numbers dropped a good bit without MJ there. HUGE difference. MVP. GOAT.
@@wanilimbe no the bulls were the team with 9th most wins and the Knicks were clearly better than those bulls they had Patrick Ewing , Oakley and John Starks ( Starks averaged 20 points in regular season that year)
@@wanilimbe Results matter. Bottom line is, they finished 2nd in the Central, and lost to the Knicks. The same Knicks that they owned with MJ. Sure, they were still good, but they were not and never would have been a championship team without Jordan. That's an MVP right there.
@@wanilimbe Here you are being proven wrong yet again. Must be a Lebron hating Jordan the GOAT this much and constantly proving you have no idea what you're talking about. Typical.
Never for a second in his life Malone was better than Jordan. And it's not only about production like you say, it's about production and impact on the game.
Pre Law I’m talking about he should have MVP in 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 96, 97 and 98 that’s 10 years. But they stop giving MJ the award cause he was too dominant and they want someone to have a chance to win it

I love this series so much
awesome idea for sure
Love the series...don’t always agree with you but this is sweet. Thank you😘
4:07 pretty much sums up MJ in one clip. Just put 6 rings on his hand and you're good to go.
well said
Nice video. 1 thing that could be improved - use more side to side stat comparisons while discussing two players. It helps focusing on the topic. You could also add some (but not much) red/green colour to notice better individual stats.
Absolutely great and original series at that. Kudos!!! 🙌
This channel is the most important one on RUclips. Keep them coming
Enoch P. one of the greatest channels no doubt
So basicly, if MJ didnt retire and didnt get injured, he would have been the real MVP of the league for 10 seasons steaight from 1987 to 1996...
I didn't know the mailman won in 99?. Im glad i found your channel.. Keep the content coming
can’t wait to get to the 70s with the NBA AND ABA
Great video today keep it up your doing amazing job.
Jordan should have 7 mvps in the 90's
it's absurd that he didn't win 9 straight or whatever.
@@meenamjah facts, its absurd Lebron doesn't have more also though
@@inthepaint2907 nah. KD was better in 2014. Curry was better in 2016. In 2017, even with statpads, Westbrook/Harden has better numbers than Lebron. 2018 is definitely Harden in the regular season. 2019, Harden and Giannis are definitely better.
Lebron "Best Player": 2009-2013, 2015
Lebron with "MVP formula": 2009,2010,2012,2013.
It's fair. Keep sucking Lebron though.
King Dino Dragonite thanks for the feedback 😁😁
The fact that LeBron doesn’t have one in 2018 is absurd
fantastic new series, thanks ma man!
Clyde is my guy, but he was NEVER an 'elite' shooter.
3:26 my goodness showing Chuck’s shin girth it’s amazing he moved around so fluently
Dude was thicc. Had tree trunks for legs. His base was really strong and he could run and jump with the best of them, especially in his Philly years.
Hakeem In 94, in my opinion had the greatest season all time. Won DYOP, MVP, won the Finals and Finals MVP. He was the best defender without question that season, and took full advantage of Jordan not playing that year. Man I wish I could've saw him and MJ play in the finals
would've been a series like no other
James Broms well said
@@inthepaint2907 The Bulls would've punked the Rockets handily.
No argument on this video. Great thorough and unbiased analysis
Bron sexuals:MJ can’t shoot
Jelly Bean yo you right I respect bron as the second greatest player but bron fans be delusional I swear
You call Lebron fans delusional then place him second all time? Hmm
Stephen Cruize beacuse Lebron is the 2nd greatest of all time
Jelly Bean hey man that’s your opinion not mine good bye sir
@Jelly Bean anyone who says "he *will never* beat _______" is delusional. You are idolizing the past as if no one can ever be greater lol
Great series! The “MJ took it personal” meme always gets a laugh outta me.
Great video, just wanted to correct the stat line of Shaq in 93-94 (at 6:50 in the video) : he did not average 5.1 apg, but only 2.4apg (if he did, it would have been an easy MVP season imo ! 29-13-5-3 with 60% shooting ?!? Come on ! xD).
Thank you. A couple other people pointed that out too. Idk what the heck I was looking at when I typed in 5.1 apg. lol
Love the series!!!!! Keep it coming
same
Pippen:"Hey Karl,the mailman doesn't deliver on sundays".LOL
Lol
Another great video. Please do 2010s if is not too complicated :)
MJ: When a shooting guard averages almost the same shooting percentage as one of the best centers in the league.
Well the 90s were very different from the modern NBA, offenses were actually build around Centers so naturally defenses were also focused on stopping them + spacing wasnt nearly as good as in the modern NBA thus making the paint and post more crowded with defenders so shooting over 50% when always battleing against other Bigs with poor spacing was actually quite the challenge compared to modern Centers where a lot just camp in the dunker spot, waiting for oops and misses that they can clean up
@@tobsixi6702 That's true. Still a great accomplishment tho
10 out of 10, my guy. Just like all your vids! :D keep up the great work
I'd give 93' to Hakeem and 90' to Barkley. But I cannot say that the choice of Jordan is also wrong.
I agree.
You did your research bro! Thanks! Really enjoyed the video!
6:12 Mj is the goat bro🐐. I’m sorry but Bron isn’t close yet
Youll hurt bronsexual bro. They think stats alone is matter ,
Please do 80’s/70’s.....all the way back. This is great
Jordan the real GOAT
true that
Thanks Jonny excellent as usual.
Looking forward your next on the 80'
I think he's doing the 2010s next but will do the 80's after that
A *HUGE* flaw in your thinking is that stats indicate who the better players are. 😉
Pano Kosto Kobe was no winner though with mediocre players.
It’s not a flaw, it’s just the criteria by which he decided to judge. As long as he is consistent with it, it’s not a problem. You can make a different list with different criteria but you have to be consistent with it .
In all fairness. That Magic Johnson Statline is Insane.
It should be:
90: Jordan
91: Jordan
92: Jordan
93: Hakeem
94: Hakeem
95: Robinson
96: Jordan
97: Jordan
98: Jordan
99: Shaq
spot on
Looks about right to me
Agreed
Nah where Mj missing a couple of mvps is in the 80s
Jordan was clearly better in 93
another great vid man
facts
So.. Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan, Hakeem, Hakeem, Jordan, Jordan, Jordan?
That's how i'd rank it
Eric Larry lmao I wasn’t serious about Jordan winning all of those, but does he deserve most of them yes
Eric Larry Well, considering the Admiral pulled a Giannis in the playoffs, it would be hard to argue he was the better player over Hakeem.
Lesley Harrys true
Karl Malone in 97’ and Charles Barkley
Hey you really know your basketball and it's real reality check to see how the MVP award is suppose to be given.
Should’ve picked a different decade. I can’t imagine taking a MVP away from MJ
Yes I'm happy u made this video...your videos r better than other youtubers
Thanks man! That means a lot.
@@jonnyarnett your welcome
1989/90 - 1992/93: Michael Jordan
1993/94 - 1994/95: Hakeem Olajuwon
1995/96 - 1997/98: Michael Jordan
1998/99: Karl Malone
Damn! MJ is like Kareem in the 70's .. except he won most of his championships.
MVP. GOAT.
My guy the Bulls were still top 2 in the league without Jordan, that entire game 5 vs the Knicks was rigged. Your underrating that 94’ and 95’ team.
Typical.
2010 nba > 90s nba
Only one I heavily disagree with is Alonzo takes 1999. I don't understand how he wasn't even mentioned for that year.
Who else just clicked on this video to see how much MVP's MJ had
Never for a second in his life Malone was better than Jordan. And it's not only about production like you say, it's about production and impact on the game.
Haven’t even watch the video and already know Jordan should have 10 MVPs
no doubt
Well if you know basketball you'd know he didn't even play all 10 seasons available..
Pre Law I’m talking about he should have MVP in 87, 88, 89, 90, 91, 92, 93, 96, 97 and 98 that’s 10 years. But they stop giving MJ the award cause he was too dominant and they want someone to have a chance to win it
Pre Law he actually had 11 full seasons
Maybe Hakeem was flat out god tier in some seasons
Hey jonny love your vids but at the end i think you should tally them up and show us how many each person should've won instead of us having to go back and count them individually. Love your vids tho keep up the good work !!👏👏👏😁😁😁
I actually told a viewer I would start doing that with this video and then totally forgot during editing 🤦♂️ That’s a great idea, and I plan on doing that for the next decades. I’ll probably recap the all time leaders at the end of the series 👍
