- U.S. Army Paratroopers assigned to the 310th PSYOP, 165th QM, and 982nd Combat Camera, conduct an airborne jump out of a C-130 aircraft onto Preston Drop Zone, August, Ga., July 15, 2018. These Paratroopers are jumping to maintain currency for jump status and to train for future Airborne Operations. (U.S. Army Reserve video by Staff Sgt. Austin Berner)

Remember my first jump at Basic Airborne Training, Ft. Benning, Georgia.
After 3 weeks of intensive physical training and all aspects of parachute procedures. It was time for the first jump.
As we marched toward the aircraft I remembered that you could quit at anytime. This was all volunteer.
The fear was all encompassing. The thoughts racing through my mind. It's over, my chute won't open. Pulling my reserve would just end up wrapping around my neck. They would find me in a bloody heap on the drop zone.
Still had time though. Could back out and walk away. Yea, that's what I'll do! I'll run and hide, get my gear and leave before the other troopers see my shame.
Time to load up, I find myself walking straight into the aircraft.
My fate is sealed, it's over. I accept my fate. At least when they find my remains. They will stand around my broken body and say, he was one brave trooper who didn't back down.
The doors open, we are hooked up and ready to jump. The noise is deafening, the aircraft bouncing around. My heart is in my throat, sweating profusely. Lets hurry up and get this short life over.
The line starts moving, I see the light of the door ahead of me. My destiny before me. Out I go!
The snap of the parachute opening is jarring. I look up, the main has fully opened. After the roaring of the aircraft. The silence is deafening. Check my gear as trained, all is well. Am floating towards the earth.
I see the ground coming up to meet me. Prepare for landing. Feet and legs together! Chin tucked in! Remember my PLF (parachute landing fall), my 5 points of contact!
My feet meet the ground. Training kicks in and the landing is good. Roll up my chute and put it the kit bag and run (never walk) off the drop zone!
I've done it! I'm alive!

I experienced some kind of whip to my neck first jump. I may have thought I broke my neck. I didn't. 🙂
I just had to show off one day for the guys in my unit. I tried to click my heels on a rear exit . The suspension line grabbed my leg. By rights I should have been torn apart. But some encouragement on the way down from the others. " work your way out of that Airborne! "
And I untangled. And actually had a soft landing without toggles to steer. They somehow were a foot above me out of reach. 🙂 I was lucky that day.

I've been working on the C-130H for about ten years now and I always loved the Army Airborne on my deployments back in 2015 fighting ISIS. Always wondered if they turned out okay. Keep it up Army! Love from the Air Force Nevada Air Guard
I preferences the 141 for jumps, I liked the walk out the door vs push/jump out like the 130s but they changed it

Not if you land right
Sometimes. Especially when it’s real windy and you start drifting fast to one direction. But some landings are real gentle. Other times they leave you lying there for a minute rethinking your life decisions
You'll find out the next day, when you got the tailbone blues 🤣🤪
Messed up a rear PLF and got a concussion. Had short term memory loss for about 5 minutes. Didn’t remember where my keys were, where I parked the car or where I was living, but remembered my training; packed up my chute, equipment, attached my reserve and ran off the drop zone

They told Da vinci that you couldn't jump out of a hot air balloon and use a pyramid shaped parachute and land safely boy were they wrong...he was on the right track.

I just jumped c130 for the first time tbh I prefer it over c17 only thing worse is the space in the aircraft

It was fun while I got to jump on Ft. Bragg. But I had a window for 45 minutes tops on the plane. Any longer and I was ready to use the plastic bag. 🙃
