Another reason is JK Rowling didn't even want Dueling Dragons in Hogsmede in the first place due to her concern that the coaster would take away from the sightlines.
To think that if B&M was not busy taking orders around 2008-2009 Universal would have gotten a B&M mini hyper coaster like Hollywood Dream at Universal Japan. Instead Universal went with Maurer a manufacter known for family spinning coasters to build a thrill coaster and got a problematic roller coaster. Funny this seems to be the same story Top Thrill 2 at Cedar Point is facing.
All Ka, green lantern, Anaconda, nighthawk, rip ride are coasters i never got to experience and now never will, it's so stressful to me as a coaster enthusiast to not have the time and Luxury to get a good coaster count , im only at 83 credits. it hurts so bad that i'll never get to experience them, like really tears up my soul . Merry Christmas to me.
Epic Universe isn't going to be drawing people aways from either of the existing 2 parks. Their ticket structure guarantees the two existing parks stay equally as busy because you have to purchase a minimum of a 3 day ticket where only 1 of your 3 days can be used at Epic Universe. Meaning, people have no choice but to use their 2 remaining days at either Universal or IOA. Guaranteeing they stay equally as busy as Epic.
I think im the only one sad about this ride because I didn't notice the roughness and I have so much nostalgia for rrr 😢 I think a hot racer would work well, since its a single rail which they don't have and it can fit in tight spaces. I feel like a multi launch inverting coaster at all three of their parks is a little much. a launched inverted coaster would also be cool since they could theme that well. even though im sad I understand why its leaving 😭
This one is rough and removing 95% of the music really kills it. Was an interesting concept from a different era, but it also costs a ton. Maurer was also not able to complete it properly, so Universal had to finish it themselves. It has issues on start up if the temperature outside is not quite right. It's also very expensive to maintain - about $1M per year. That's not normal for a standard roller coaster, even when it is 15 years old.
Once it put a bad strain in the old grundle, but every other time it wasn’t rough… just boring. All the brake sections just killed any and all momentum…
I'm SO glad that Universal Studios Florida is removing and replacing Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. This means that the park will start to become better than ever before. Now, as for what type of coaster that USF could replace Rockit, I predict that we could see the addition of a Mack Rides Stryker coaster, similar to Voltron at Europa-Park. Also, this may sound a bit bold, but after the opening of the new coaster, USF could look to replace Race Through New York starring Jimmy Fallon with a new Ghostbusters dark ride.
Really hope this is true. USF is supposed to be the flagship Universal Orlando theme park and as a Universal Studios Florida fanboy, I agree it desperately needs the flagship treatment ASAP. This is a great step towards that.
Agreed! As of right now, Islands is THE park to go to when going to universal even with annual passes. USF feels very dull in comparison, it needs more attention 100%
It’s not my FAVORITE at all, but it’s still one of my first few big coasters. Yes it’s rough, yes it’s gotten older, but it’s still iconic for USF and I will miss it. Can’t wait for what’s next
I never knew about this ride's issues prior to 2024, but it was down for a good part of the day when I went to Universal Orlando back in August. With Epic Universe opening, they probably decided Rip Ride Rocket has outlived its usefulness.
I love this ride, it's a real blow to see it go :( between this and my first looping coaster scorpion closing, it's been a rough year for closures for me
I got one ride on it, and waited almost 2.5hrs on a weekday on a day with moderate crowds. Throughput seemed bad, line just didn't move quickly. I didn't love it, and it was very mid.. While I hate evaluating a coaster I haven't gotten on 3 or more times. But love the idea of a vertical launch intimin.. and I agree it makes the most sense. Some set scenes, possibly a switch track with reverse launch. Early-Mid 2026 would be my guess, and possibly the best coaster in Orlando? Fast and the Furious theme?
It's crazy just getting into coasters in the early 2020s. So many noteworthy rides were built in the '00s, and are now nearing their end-of-life right as I'm learning about them. I started researching and watching content on all of these coasters that I could potentially ride in. 2022/2023, and now that I've actually started trying to ride some of the most exciting, they're starting to drop like flies. HRRR isn't necessarily one of these... but still. I had Do-Dodonpa, Dragster, and Ka as must-rides since I like launches... and now they're all gone.
I've lived in Orlando for over 20 years and never really been a fan of this coaster, but this past weekend I went on it and got the best rides I've ever had on it with great airtime. I still won't be sad to see it go though if that means we get a bigger and better coaster.
I only rode it once but it was EXTREMELY uncomfortable for me. My male parts were SQUISHED when the restraint was locked in and I was glad when I got off the ride. It was a decent ride other than the way the restraints fit me.
Here’s my theory: it’s getting the Hulk treatment. They redo all of the track, reduce the break runs, maybe add more music (keep the secret list the same songs plus more), and generally make it better. What else can they do in that tiny space?
@RippinRidinRockin I believe you're one of a small handful of people who it doesn't hurt. The ride is known as rip your spine out rocket for a reason. 🤣
The 365-day park explanation is ludicrous. Six Flags Magic Mountain only stopped being a 365 park two years ago and also has late-night events. They have 50 year old steel coasters.
The whole vibe of the ride was something special in 2009/early 2010's. And I especially liked all the secret songs to choose from. It was a really cool concept at the time.
It was a great ride initially. The idea of filming and editing your ride as well was cool, though that has really fallen away. It was a cool concept, but the vehicles, the track, and pretty much everything about it has not aged well. Large part of me wishes they were not replacing it with an LSM launched coaster. They have two of those and Hulk also uses a launch - as does Mummy. It'd be cool to put a hyper coaster there with an out and back layout - and a lot of air time. Could be cool to also use an elevator lift to add a unique feature. But that's not happening.
I agree I see this getting one of those vertical launch intamins to keep that iconic vertical lift but with a proper vertical drop instead of the shallow let down that RRR has.
They should definitely make a Hollywood Dream clone, but make the lift hill vertical. I never understood why they didn't go to guerstflauer (sorry if I spelled it wrong) to do something with it
i love this ride. i understand the problem with this ride and not having parts for it anymore. im gonna miss it very much and hope they do it reimagined

But it is older, and there are a good amount of newer designs that would do well in the spot. Plus, I'll never turn down the possibility of a new Intamin. Will miss the big red musical ride, tho. Rip.
I’m very happy about this. I’ve only ever gotten one ride on rockit, and overall I just remember it being not too great but not too bad. Whatever this is will surely be better
I've been hearing a package deal for fast and furious style coaster. One in Hollywood, one in Orlando. If not that, I would love a Mack Extreme Spinner, they could totally outdo Ride to Happiness and make it the best coaster in the world.
As for predictions: I think Intamin is gonna do a custom coaster there. Not a model they already sell. I’m interested to see what theming they do cause Velocicoaster is amazing. The Ride and the theme are world class. I think it’s gonna be a custom coaster.
Paint it yellow. Turn the vertical lift into a banana. And retheme the whole thing for Minions Land. You can even keep the audio since Minions love to sing.
Those rotating restraints certainly aren’t the most comfortable. If it’s the in-house creative team that worked on Hagrids and Velocicoaster I have no doubts that whatever they build, it’ll be great!

Big Amen to that. Too much Potterverse in that park. Dragons was the best. Glad I rode it before the neutering.
Dueling Dragons was past its prime as the coaster couldn't even duel anymore. Besides we atleast got Hagrids.
Dueling Dragons was also rough.
