I remember me, my brother and my dad playing this. Obviously my dad did all the work but we 'helped'. It was one of the first games I remember being totally sucked into the world of the game. Thinking about it I was almost obsessed with this game, it's world and lore.
Thank you so much for playing through the whole thing. I got mega frustrated with it and gave up on the Amiga when I was a kid, so watching this back in all its glory (okay the audio on PC doesn't stand up to the Amiga version, but I'm okay with that) and seeing the ending that I would never have got to is really fantastic. Thank you again.
Aliens that look like us - They Live, memories being implanted ala Total Recall, mention of a televised game show where death is on the table - Running Man, replicants ala Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?). All this in the first 35 minutes damn!
The intergalactic teleporting to the alien base reminded me of the movie 'They Live.' Sure they did something like that in that film. This game deffo used many ideas from great 80's/90'ssci-fi movies.
Yeah, the genre started with Prince of Persia. Then we had Another World and this one. Blizzard also came out with a cinematic platformer game later on.
Holy Crap. The hours and hours I spent on this game to get to the end. I got to where I could play it start to finish without dying once. I had this on the SNES and still have it and it still works. I've not played it in AGES. So fun to go through it again after all these years. I have "Out of this world" and Prince of Persia for SNES too, which still work. I played them all to completion as well. The good ol days. hahah
31:35 Note that the photo given is called a "replicant photo" -- i.e. it's not a "machine" but rather a replicant, like in Blade Runner. 32:00 The man near the Death Tower poster can be shown the photo and will point you towards the bar.
I used to play this game so much. I remember I never made it to the game show and the ticket. Only to that city with the subways. We used to make fun of the guys shoes cause they looked like something from Payless.
When I saw this 1992 game again years later, some things at the beginning of the game surprised me. There are scenes that inspired some movies. For example, flying motorcycles are also in the movie The Island (made in 2005). The hologram he recorded is also in the movie Total Recall (2012 version).
in the beginning it was another World, 1991 (sega master sistem) then in 1992 precisely Flashbak, (sega mega drive), and finally closed this epic and magnificent saga Fate to black 1995 (play station one), adding only that still there I still cherish it preciously and jealously
Many years ago we were gifted (or bought cheaply) an old, obsolete 386 PC, and this game in a "Classic collection" pack. It was tricky getting it to run on such a PC which had no soundcard, just assorted bleeps from the internal speaker! Quite hard, but I got near to the end, I just didn't know what to do at 1:35:24 after you have shot the organic dangling bits!
Игра классная. Но мы застряли где-то в начале и просто никак не могли перейти на новый уровень. Может на дискете было не все записано, фиг знает. Очень было жаль, что не могли дальше играть. Хоть так теперь посмотрю.
It's rumored that the diagonal ledge jump at the start of New Washington was intended as a copy protection measure. The required input for it is very obscure. You need to start running with shift+arrow, then release shift while still holding the arrow. The character will continue running but will also automatically jump onto any ledge ahead.
@@johnkirk. This input was described in the manual that came with a legitimate copy of the game. It's possible that they thought it would be very tough to figure it out without the manual.
it's nice seeing that intro at proper quality, always having viewed the SNES version myself, seeing as that is the version of the game I own. when he gets hit with the laser in the SNES version, there's a BIG slowdown which makes the hit more epic-looking. Much fewer FPS on SNES lol. But yeah this is one real gem of a platformer. The first three or even four levels stick right out in my mind. The jungle, the disintegrators, the sound effects from getting hit, the jump-pack drop-down at the end of the level...then underground, the contracts, the new ooze enemies..."I scratch your back, you scratch mine. 1500 credits and the papers are yours." Then the game show, can't remember the name of it right now lol. Then that moment when you're RUNNING FROM A DISINTEGRATOR CHASING YOU EPICLY...Yeah, nice game here.
it was amazing what they ported to SNES back then. Street Fighter Alpha 2 is probably one of the bravest and most amazing ports in history, especially on the SNES. It was later in its lifespan, when developers could really maximize the potential of the SNES. Dude this was when Nintendo was king of the gaming world. We were spoiled in the 90's, man.
I first played on the first Windows in 1995 at the age of 11. I had no idea what to do in that game and I barely passed the first world. I just beat it on the Switch and the end was a bit anticlimactic and sad and the game felt short for some reason. So he's gonna drift forever instead of finding home?
This was basically Uncharted before Uncharted but in 2D gameplay. If this game being remake today, community these day would label this as "Uncharted rip-off"
15:15 This is actually a (relatively) scientifically sound concept from classical sci-fi: shapeshifters need to have a higher molecular density to store the extra matter.
Flash Back is a MASTERPIECE! I love this game Futuristic platform game with real human structure moves, (like Prince of Persia, Another world, Nosferatu, etc..)and this kind of puzzle At same time. Really, I really Love this game, is so PRETTY F****N COOL
Great game. The original version is much better than the CD version. Thanx for uploading. BTW, you can use the teleport to escape the alien planet much faster. Regards.
i just love the New washington part and the first seconds of Earth, that yellow misty sky is beautiful and in Vas you get to talk to ppl and explore. So i don't like the rest of the bits, you just shoot things. But that's just me i like adventure games more than anything. I just wish they had done sleuthing and exploration also in the other parts. I can't help but see it as laziness and a waste of great atmosphere.
Sometimes, dos games are incredible but the lion king and aladdin games versions are better on snes. dos has a amazing sound and graphic interface but these two is better on snes for me.
@@EnforcerX71 I used to play this game on our home Apple computer in the late 90s. It's interesting noticing the differences both graphically and in terms of the sound effects.
So, a few times during this playthrough you lose your shield charges and then keep getting hit, but nothing of note happens. What's going on in this game?
i love love love the color of the sky on Earth. Wonderful. And the landscape, too, it creates such an atmosphere. Too bad it's wasted entering a closed building and in endless frustrating shooting, instead of doing a section similar to the jobs in the 2nd level, that at least had some adventure gameplay (talking to people, package exchanges, and the unforgettable subway riding). No wonder the sequel was just a dumb shooter.
This game was annoying and difficult as a kid. You basically had to search every nook and cranny for invisible key cards. Also you have no idea what is a foreground and a background object, so a lot of falling and climbing back up again. Didn't even make it past the surface level and I routinely could beat games like Sonic, Road Rash, Batman, Spawn, etc.
I remember this and Another World being incredible. Looking back, Another World is incredible. This has a lot of dull and repetitive tasks. Good, but no Another World.
My guess is that he was prepared for the eventually of being kidnapped and having his memory wiped and ensured that if it did happen then even after having his memory restored he would remember the kidnapping

loved this game.. it was so ahead of its time.. memories! :)
This excellent game was exactly in its right time.
It built on Another world released by the same guys a year earlier. In the series there was also Fade To Black which was a complete disaster.
i remember that game.... the grafics were just awesome for that time. this smooth animations.
the amiga version did not have this cool music if i remember ,

I still love the artwork and animation. Looking at Conrad's outfit I think of Arnold in last action hero
Ah ah ! Seeing this video makes me remember how many hours I spent to play this game in the 90' !! Thanks for the recall ! 👍👍
Rotoscoping at it's finest.
A futuristic Prince of Persia

I've been looking for this game forever. I couldn't remember the name.
I got this game by accident for the Amiga. It was mixed in with a load of pirate disks from a car boot sale. Mindblowing stuff.
I remember watching my sisters boyfriend play this when she’d let me hang out with them. It actually brings a tear to eye now, RIP Kimi.
I remember ending this game when I was young. I miss the old days

This looks incredible for the limitations
Flashback is Sci-Fi Prince of Persia
1 of my favorite games in it's game, played the hell out of it.
So, this is where "cyberpunk: the arasaka's plot" came from...
I played the SNES version as kid but my father completed it :D
I didn't know the PC version had more scenes and more sound apart from being fluently
sci-fi platformer from childhood
Best quest on sega.

Amiga Times, good Times.
thanks you for upload this video! never forget this game and today view the end of game.
Finding and figuring out things in this game was very satisfying. but i could never finish it, if it only had some sort of save back then
Please next time OPL MIDI music. The MS Wavetable on this just isn't period.

Will you make a Frankenstein longplay? It's a game on Amiga. I didn't find yet a full longplay for this game.
Used to play this on my Amiga 1200.
it'a weird that his shirt is colored white in cutscenes but changes to pink in the gameplay.

MS-DOS > SNES ;-)
Well the SNES version is arguably the worst port, partly censored & with inferior music for two things.
