I dont know, my parents drive an Opel Zafira B and aside from its cheap build quality, the gearbox is amazing. Even after 360,000 kms its still smooth, no strange sounds and doesnt wobble when in gear. But I agree, Opel engineers are either underpaid, or they have no hands.

Thanks for a great review, this is one of the best and most focused driver cars on the planet. Fantastic steering feel, design and balance. Stock with 147 hp naturally aspirated engine it is fantastic on small backroads, but a little lacking on faster roads. With the supercharger it is insanely quick and still retains the same great engine response of an NA.
@@Aykan03 I've said this once, I'll say it again, and I'll stick by this theory, a 3k ish launch is nothing with a fully built engine, one like this, which is mostly stock internals pushing forced induction causes far more stress and strain on the motor. The cars that come factory with launch control all have one thing in common, they're factory built up, with stronger internals and more forged/higher build quality components, that are designed and less likely to break.
Wow what a nice car. I drove the 147hp version back in the days but this one is insane. Wow that sound like a Hellcat. Great I'm speechless! Nice video, thank you!
@@ruubers7419 the plus side is that you can have this car, with supercharger fitted, for around £15-20k. I'm sure that a half-decent engineering company could create an articulated coupling for the steering column with rake & reach for not too much money. I remember driving this car on the track about 15 years ago and being gobsmacked with the performance and handling. And that was just the Turbo version.
Not a chance for me either probably, my dad has a volvo s60 (decent sized saloon) and with the seat all the way back and down my knees are almost level with the dash, also feet are pushed up against pedals and wheel. Funnily enough the clio im learning to drive in has significantly more room? Weird eh?
Supercharger is from Chevy Cobalt SS 2.0l Supercharged (05-07) - coupe; it could be also from Saturn ION redline - same engine. I do own Chevy Cobalt SS Turbocharged (08-10).

I'm a huge fan of opel cars, I'm own a simple Astra G 2liter,but the speedster is weird but so really cool,I'm a kid from 90s,this car brings good memories from Gran Turismo 2.
The sad part is, it was almost going to be brought over here and badged as either a sports car for Saturn, a new version of the Pontiac Fiero or both. Unfortunately, it never happened.
I enjoyed seeing how this simple little lightweight from Gran Turismo 2 can still produce so many smiles per Liter, and modern speed with a blower. Would love to drive it 🔥🔥
Cool video bout a great & unique car. The thing u said about the idea of putting 205s or 215s on the front is exactly the other way around. The narrower 175s made the car saver to drive because it moves over the front tires when u r too fast and it will not break out in the back. When u r putting wider front tires on it gets much more aggressiv/nervous in handling and the back of the speedster can overcome u if u dont watch out. So if u r a more experienced driver u can put on wider front tires. But u have to drive a bit more concentrated then.
GM 2.2 ecotec L61 with an Eaton M62 root style supercharger. Opel was the original designer but sold the design to GM and with a few updates was released end of 02 model year as GM's global 4 cylinder engine.
The car is awesome. I pick one of these over the Elise, which is obviously a sibling. I think it is better looking. Vauxhall VXR220 with a short shifter is an incredible machine. Absolute rocket ship, terrifying, rewarding. Stupidly good track car when prepped, eats up 911s for fun on the circuit.
