Good question, KJs are super efficient and can take hours to cool down depending on what temp you were cooking with. As long as your fire is out, empty the ash, you would be fine to travel.
I’d love it if you could show us a felt gasket replacement video for the jr along with tips on ensuring the dome is correctly aligned after the replacement.
Great video bro. Got a classic 2 in February and have been on the fence about a Jr ever since. I can totally see how this would be a great sidekick for the classic. Then again, so would a big joe 🤔. Haha.
I'm looking to add a Joe Junior to my stable and this review was super duper helpful! I'm subscribing to your channel for more tips on the Joe and Joe Junior as I prepare to make the leap into joining the Kamado Klub :-)
@Chicago Griller I'm so glad it was helpful as you consider joining Team Red. I love both of my Kamado Joe's. I just posted a new video on the brand new accessory called the sloroller that just came out for the KJ 1/2 model of the Kamado Joe. It will for sure share the most recent innovation in Kamado cooking. By the way, Go Bears! I used to live in the nw suburbs of Chicago. 🤙🏻🐻😂
@@BartlowsBBQ Oh very cool. Thanks for the heads up. I'll check that out! I grew up in the NW burbs too (Lake Zurich) but live in the city now. That's right, Bear Down! :-)
I’m in that boat for sure. Gonna expand my joe fam eventually with the big or the jr. Made beef jerky on the classic the last two weekends and the only thing I could think was, “I need a big joe for more jerky” 😂
Chris Eppley Haha! Love it. I have made jerky on the classic and turns out incredible. I was actually thinking I need the grill expander for more jerky. Joe Jr would be a great side kick!
The best thing to get for ash clean up is a real ash vacuum. Not a shop vac - an ash vac. Clean it out after every cook. It takes only a few minutes. Don’t scrape out the ash … you’ll make a big mess. The Kick Ash Pan is a good addition but I had to bend the lip downward because it is a little too deep.
Kick ask can is a great accessory but haven't had to make any modifications. Yeah a ash vacuum is great but I only had had a shop vac at the time which served its purpose. I cook almost daily so I wait a few cooks.
Harmon Heat It's a great little grill! Totally worth it in my opinion but I'm a big Kamado Joe fan. I hear you on all the grills, my wife is like really? Can I use any of them real easy. I saw y'all on the hot seat, fun show.
Great question! I have 4 other Kamado Joes, so I rotate them depending on what I'm cooking. It's my families favorite little grill. Mainly for quick cooks during the week. But, I just did some sticky ribs on the junior and made a video. I'm still digging it and use it!
Bartlow's BBQ I guess just cook anything and everything on there lol. Any tips and tricks would be really helpful too. This vid helped with my research into these little guys. I just bit the bullet and bought one. Should be arriving in a few weeks. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@BartlowsBBQ I am using local Australian charcoal called Gidgee which is good quality. Not having issues with indirect just when I want to sear something it flares up, I am filling the basket up to 90%. I am not jerking it half full
It works great but I’m not impressed with the finish. The Kamado Joe label on the top vent on my Joe Junior is crooked. Significantly so. I turned the logo around the back. It was driving me nuts. Also, I was surprised to find a silicone bead around the stainless ash door/vent. No one had ever mentioned that before in my research and I failed to notice it on my go see to the retailer. Super sloppy job there, too, that I cleaned up with a razor knife. Works Great! Looks Meh.
Not sure what you are referring to. I have 3 Kamado Joe's & 2 drum smokers and most likely will be getting a big joe or pellet joe this year. I'm pretty I went big! 😂
I just noticed the wooden Oklahoma map!! I lived in Tulsa for 10 years, now in CA. And today received my joe jr. Looking to fire it up later today.
It's great to connect with other people from Oklahoma / Okies! Have fun firing it up on that new joe jr!
I’m sorry you had to move to commiefornia. Born and raised here and wish I could leave.
Thanks a lot , just ordered my first KJ Walmart $229. So freaking excited !!
That's awesome, what a great deal!
@@BartlowsBBQ $199 now
@@jdmgsr05 That's a steal of a deal!
Glad I am not the only one that measures air gaps with two fingers 😂
Smoking Dad BBQ 😂 Love it. I might have learned that trick from Man Cave Meals over the years but has done the trick!
How long does it take to cool down in order to take it back home? Nice review, helped me decide to buy one. Thanks.

@@BartlowsBBQ thanks
This little Joe Junior looks super cute and useful. Now that I think about it my neighbor has one like it . Thanks for sharing
JIM INCOME Love it! That's super cool a neighbor has one! It's a great little smoker & charcoal grill.
Just picked up my Junior for Christmas. I’m stoked and soon Joe Junior will be, too.
Congrats! You'll love the Junior for all your grilling needs. Hot & Fast or Low n Slow.
I’d love it if you could show us a felt gasket replacement video for the jr along with tips on ensuring the dome is correctly aligned after the replacement.
Thanks for sharing! I will add that to my list. Thanks for watching!
Perfect Grill!!!! I got one for Christmas and it's perfect for me and my wife!!!!!!
Awesome, and glad it is working for you all. Thank you for watching!
So awesome brother!!! I’ve always wanted a Kamado cooker. One day i will for sure!!! Excellent video!
pitmasterpastor Thank you! Totally worth saving for! You will love it. As always, thanks for watching!
Tomorrow's my B-day (Happy #71 to me), I saw this on sale at Christmas for $299 and scooped one up for my wife to give me...LOL....
do you know if a small dutch oven can fit inside? thanks
I have tested a 10 inch cast iron skillet and fits perfectly.
Does the hinge help if you're using the heat deflector? Isn't that going to be in most of the time when your doing low and slow??
When doing low n slow on the junior...yeah the deflector & grill grate holder always stays in place.
Sometimes i'll take the grate holder off and put grill grate directly on top of the ceramic fire box for a closer sear.
Great video bro. Got a classic 2 in February and have been on the fence about a Jr ever since. I can totally see how this would be a great sidekick for the classic. Then again, so would a big joe 🤔. Haha.
Chris Eppley Thank you so much! I agree, the Jr is a great sidekick. If I had room, I would add the big joe as well. 😂

I love my JR. It is a wonderful little tool.
Damian Absolutely, such a great addition to my Kamado collection.
Great compact setup and I bet it can get silly hot for searing with that smaller chamber.
Outdoor Indoor Texan It's a great little grill and produces fantastic cooks! Thanks for watching!
I just received mine. Haven't used it yet. Could you smoke a small turkey on it?
That's great, congrats. I have done spatchcock chicken on it not turkey. But, I bet a small turkey or decent size turkey breast would fit just fine.
@@BartlowsBBQ 10 4. Thank you!
@@jaredhilliard5206 You bet. That gives me a video idea. Thank you. 😀
Hi mate. Just got the junior yesterday. If I load it up how long do you think it lasts low and slow?? 10-12 hours? Thanks
Congrats on your new joe jr. I think the longest is maybe 12 hours. Look forward to hearing how you like it!
@@BartlowsBBQ thanks mate. Yeah looking forward to getting something in there!
My first thing was cooking steaks but then pork butt was my next low n slow.
@@BartlowsBBQ got to be brisket my man !
@@lukedecol1505 Nice!
I am super excited that my jr. Has been shipped! Can't wait to get grilling 😁
@Jerry Hoffman That's awesome! What are you grilling first?
I have been thinking about that. Maybe some wings, with shrimp.
That sounds delicious! I think I grilled steak or tri-tip!
Jr's a must, to compliment Sr!!!
Rey De Los Santos Absolutely, love the Joe Jr. I have a Classic II plus the Jr. Thanks for watching and commenting!

An awesome review of the Kamado Joe Junior!!!
Andy Tran Thank you so much. Appreciate you watching!
Thanks! Looks awesome - want to order one! Yes do a series on the Jr! 😋
@D Mar Thanks for watching! It's a great grill / smoker! I for sure plan on doing a series on the junior.
Bartlow's BBQ thank you ! I’m deciding between Jr. & an indoor grill- ugh! What do you think?
@D Mar I enjoy the process of cooking outdoors & using charcoal! I would say it depends on your goal and the experience you want to have at the grill.
Really wished to enjoy it.....do keep in touch...stay safe
Thank you so much for watching. Glad you enjoyed it!
Is this good for $100 used?
It retails for $399. As long as it's on good shape, no cracks, comes with everything, that's a great deal!
Those Joe Jr's look too cool! I've had my eye on one but I'm up to about 6 grills and smokers and my wife will kill me😄

That's great and you will love it. I have a handful of cooking videos lined up on the jr. Brisket and Pizza.
The problem I am having wiht Joe jr is flarups and lack of space for the cool zone.
What kind of charcoal are you using? Are you filling the basket it up or jerking it half full? Are you having issues with indirect cooking?
@@BartlowsBBQ I am using local Australian charcoal called Gidgee which is good quality. Not having issues with indirect just when I want to sear something it flares up, I am filling the basket up to 90%. I am not jerking it half full
I can say after owning for a year or so I just smoked a 14lb turkey this Thanksgiving 😋. It was a smash hit!
The Joe Jr is powerful cooker and that sounds awesome!
I cant get the temp high in mine.
What kind of charcoal are you using?
@BartlowsBBQ B&B. Royal Oak lump. I think its an airflow issue.
Dude this was an awesome video!!! Now you've made me wanna get one of these Kamado Joe Jrs for myself!! The T-Shirt looks great by the way!!!

That's a bummer. You should turn in a claim for new vent cover.
Thanks for the reply. Do you see a silicone bead sealing the ash door assembly to the ceramic on your Jr.?
