For the past several years, AMD has been an also-ran in the mobile-processor space. Though the company's APUs (AMD's name for CPUs) have powered many laptops, the chips have been limited to budget-minded, low-performance systems. However, with its new Ryzen Mobile chips, the company is finally taking the performance fight to Intel. AMD's quad-core Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 processors are designed to beat Intel's 8th Gen Core i5 and Core i7 CPUs while coming in at around the same price or possibly less.
Technical specs:
Ryzen 5 2500U and Core i5-8250U quantitative parameters such as cores and threads number, clocks, manufacturing process, cache size and multiplier lock state. These parameters indirectly say of Ryzen 5 2500U and Core i5-8250U performance, but for precise assessment you have to consider their test results.

The point I can take here are amd ryzen 5 is good for graphic work such as designing and rendering and intel i5 is good for faster accessibility
wrong. integrated gpu is mainly important in games, actual design software and rendering uses multicore performance of the cpu. thats why an i7 was key before the i5s started to come with hyperthreating

I love my new Ryzen laptop. This thing is a beast. 2in1 touchscreen. Handbrake video encoding is powerful. The graphics are great. I'm glad I save the money and went with the Ryzen version ($800) instead of the intel version (1,000).

Intel and AMD have their own drawbacks.
So be smart selecting which one you should buy.
Don't be rich Intel or AMD fanboys that just buy for better performance aspect only.

Be it any processor it won't matter the overall config will affect the compiling and debugging time. Buy an M.2 SSD and your programming, editing, rendering needs will be fulfilled.
I thought i5-8250 better than R5 2500u.
One of optimized laptop for 8250u (probably using cTDP up and better cooling system) score exceed 700cb R15, meanwhile for my 2500u only getting 510-580cb R15

iGPU for 2500u is starts from 1.5 to 2x better than 8250u obviously, beat any intel UHD or HD graphics except something like Intel Iris Pro 580.
Could be better than 940mx in power usage and performance.
For lower budget take 2500u with impressive iGPU and for power saving consumption, for gaming with additional budget (additional dedicated gpu like mx150) vote for 8250u but with far higher (worse) power consumption.
Intel cpu better for gaming compared to AMD (with dedicated gpu) imo.

Same 15W default TDP (most laptop) ruin the higher cpu and iGPU performance for expensive price. Well maybe depend on laptop vendors, need 25W with better cooling system.

And i5-8250U + MX150 cost ~520 USD here. E5-476
Additional difference, my laptop +4 GB DDR4-2400.
Both are pretty good deal. Just a few more bucks, get better CPU and a discrete GPU.

Something like additional discrete graphics? Yeah, some laptop vendors insert some of it to some of their Ryzen mobile laptop.
Starts from Radeon 535 (likely to Ryzen 3 2200U), Radeon 540.
And RX 560 or higher for gaming laptop.
I'm choosing between an asus x560u with a core i5 8250u and a gtx 1050 4gb and an Acer nitro 5 with a ryzen 5 2500u and an rx560x 4gb. I know the asus wins but would the gaming performance of the other laptop be noticeable on games such as MHW?

Good video. Some suggestions though. For games list the quality settings and resolution. Put the better result over the worse one instead of keeping it always Intel first then AMD. This prevents us from having to keep looking for and reading the text that tells us whether lower is better. Use an absolute scale instead of one that exaggerates the difference by starting the value at some non-zero value.

My desktop Is an HP Pavilion with Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050/AMD Ryzen 5 2400 - Vega Graphics.

maybe it has to do more with the specs of the hard drive than the cpu. getting an ssd will make launching programs feel like an instant regardless of what cpu you use.

If you laptop doesn't have discrete gpu, then go for ryzen. But i prefer combo between ryzen Nvidia because the radeon software nowadays lose its option for turning off the discrete gpu so i can't save more power outside my house

if you just want a 2in1 don't choose intel, even if it's better in office. GPU IS MORE IMPORTANT IN DAILY USING. If there are some GUYS who JUST USING OFFICE, sure I will recommend they intel. (I use my Intel i5 8250u 2in1 about 6 months)

if you want test the real 8250u, try with asus a442ur, because i have asus a442ur and the speed of cinebench is around 700cb
Some of the chart, the starting number is not zero. From some of the charts it seems AMD beats Intel a lot, however, it's about the same if you look at the number.

Yes, but you must to upgrade your RAM to 2x4GB, need dual-channel RAM or you'll get bad Vega 8 performance.

I had a ryzen 5 2500u laptop last year (lenovo flex 6 14").. but it has so many issues and also terrrible battery life..... so im exchanging it for an i7 8550u laptop (yoga 730 13") pretty much the same cpu performance, longer battery, but completly garbage graphics... I guess I will just be using my ps4 more often since intel integrated gpus are garbage at gaming...
Intel's iGPU never been good with gaming in the first place. That is why you see vast of gaming laptops equipped with Nvidia dGPU cards alongside it.

The charts are sometimes misleading. The "Handbrake" test shows a 2:1 difference but the actual values are 20:04 for Intel and 17:48 for Ryzen, so the actual difference is roughly 20:18. Excel Macro test shows the same pattern. When Intel would outperform AMD (Chrome test for instance the X axis shows actual values so the difference seems to be lot less. If it would be shown as the Handbrake test it would show a some 1:10 difference for Intel. This is misleading and annoying!

The graphic tests have scant to do with the CPU. Ok, maybe the CPU is also an important factor, but it's generally the task of a GPU.

Scale from 0% for the comparisons where AMD won, scale from 50% where Intel won. Result is that AMD looks on average worse than Intel.
