    This video has completely changed my vision! I have my EF established, I’m now going to put my three sinking funds (back to school, Christmas, vacation) on hold and put all extra monies towards debt. By doing this, I will be credit card debt free by September and still will have a couple months to prepare for Christmas!

    This is EXACTLY how we budget. My Hubby is paid ever week and I am paid every 2 weeks. We save money in our bills account every week for our bills the 1st week of the following month. This has been a COMPLETE game changer for us! We always have enough money for our needs and wants and extra towards either debt payments or savings goals.

    This video has really helped me, just realized I don’t have money for sinking funds just yet, and need to tackle student loan first (or do as you said 95% debt and 5% sinking fund - choose one only til the goal is met and the debt is paid)

    I know there are a bunch of alternative cell services but we switched to one called PureTalk 6mos ago. $20 a month for unlimited calls and 4gb of data, and goes up $5 each plan from there. They also use AT&T's cell towers if that matters to anyone. I have been very happy with the switch and have had no problems with service. I'm sure other providers do this but they also allow for different plans on different phones which can help save if one person needs a lot of data but another doesn't.

    Even at 25 for me insurance was not a lot cheaper but I also started driving at 21 so that plays a role as well. I’m now almost 29 and I still can’t get regular insurance because they want too much money. I check regularly to see if I can pay less through Allstate or Statefarm or some other big brand but not yet.

    With my budget, I decided I was spending way too much time checking my account to make sure there was enough in there for the bills that came out. So I decided every paycheck, to put 1/4 of my total bills cost away. Does 500 worth of bills come out of my account every week? No. But if I do that, I don't ever have to worry about what combo happens to come out that week. I've also mathed several months in advance, and it looks like doing it this way puts me ahead 1 month in 6 months. I hope that makes sense...it made me worry lesd

    • @bellaboopixi
      @bellaboopixi 3 года назад +5

      To clarify, I have a separate account that all of my bills come out of on auto pay. I deposit 500 into that account every time I get paid and it takes care of itself. Whatever I have left I budget into my variable weekly expenses, and the extra goes into sinking funds

      @@fisherfamily1052 I'm glad it makes sense. It became stressful for me before because we get paid on Fridays, but that's always a different date so I was struggling with worrying about there being enough for any possible combo at that time 😁

    Rather than the snowball or avalanche method, I looked at how much interest I was paying each month. So it was sort of a combination method. For instance, if you have a higher interest rate with a small amount of debt vs a lower interest rate on a larger amount of debt you might be able to save more by paying off the most interest per month loan first.

    One of them needs to get a side hustle or work OT if they are able to. Save that $1000 ER Fund in one month and quickly pay off the small debts quickly as well. I would challenge myself to pay off the three debts $1000 and under each month. So May-Save $1000 ER Fund. June-Pay off Capital One CC. July-Pay off Kohl’s. August-Pay off Mathis Brothers. If I have that goal to pay each debt off in one month, then I know how much OT I need to work or how much extra I need to make each month. That frees up a nice amount of money, then I would start the budget that the Budget Mom recommends. Idk if that makes sense.

      I assume household stuff means laundry detergent, toilet paper, light bulbs, etc. I think a miscellaneous category is really helpful - its for having to buy a new hair dryer or microwave or phone charger when yours breaks, or your kid needs antibiotics and your copay is $20, or you need to get an oil change , you need to ship a package that costs $18, - all the random expenses that you don't anticipate
