Dr Shabbat ally is such a free minded scientific person who intends to take the views of both science and religion and then comes to a conclusion ..Mashallah. This is why he is such an intellectual and important character for Islam as well as for the non Muslims as well to understand it by being satisfied due to this discussion in the light of going out of the box from what is just stated in the holy Quran by being fair and just. And something which is needed as well. Many scholars don't even intend to say or discuss anything that is not relevant. May Allah bless you .and give u jannatul ferdous.

I recently became vegan for many reasons but mainly because I have doubt about whether the meat we buy at the butcher's came from animals that were treated with respect and compassion. I don't think the food is tayyib. This is a personal decision that I am not imposing on anyone else but I get so many remarks from other Muslims that I'm going against Allah and the Quran by questioning that meat is permissible. Is this valid?
I am not against Islam. Veganism is haram when you don't offer that food 1st to Almighty God & pray that I have done harm please remove sin then Almight is merciful food becomes mercy of Almighty. Eating meat is in mode of ignorance. This argument that while cutting throat of animal were treated with respect & compassion. Killing is is killing. If someone say that I will cut your throat but before cutting your throat I will treat you with respect & compassion. Where is the respect & compassion when the stream of blood is flowing from animal & animal is struggling for life just like when you kill a human being. If I kill you cut your throat with permissible conditions will you like it. Islam is desert religion where people are naturally butchers so I say Islam is religion for butchers & Butchers who do not respect & show compassion to other living being can't have good religion. God has given enough vegetarian food there is no need to kill innocent poor animal especially cow.
Like you if all people in this world become vegan it will so nice because meat eating is the root cause of all war mongering in the world please make more and more people vegan like you.
who told you veganism is haram? it's not.
you have no obligation to eat meat, it is an option. early muslim scholars ate very little or no meat. That being said, veganism has shown (in most cases that I know of) to be unhealthy in the long run (even if healthy and invigorating in the short run.) It is extremely difficult to find a vegan diet that really works. B12 deficiency is a common thing, which can lead to physical and mental disorders.

Thank you very much. This was very helpful but one thing is unclear for me. In Europe can we no chicken or lamb meat from any market? How about the way in Europe or east they slaughter the animal? I don’t know everything but in some cases they do something to the animal that it doesn’t feel the pain or kill it with some method that the blood doesn’t come out?

I have some thoughts.
Besides invoking God at time of slaughter, the way the animal is sacrificed also contributes to making it halal. For example, cutting at the jugular vein, then draining the blood, disengages the animal from the sensation of pain immediately and also prevents blood from clotting in the meat (and consuming blood as we know is haram).
Plus, some ways animals are slaughtered (like being hit over the head or shot) might not be halal or when still living animals witness another being slaughtered, which causes terror within them.
Besides that this doesn't sound very halal, to consume meat containing the pain energy of the animals within it, cannot be good for us. Could be a contributing factor as to why masses of humans operate in low fear based energy and have a slew of mental and physical problems.
Another point is, on how the animal was raised determines if it is halal. Were they raised with care, comfort, dignity, allowed to graze, fed what is appropriate to their diet? Or were they stuffed in cages, malnurished and tortured for their short but purposeful lives.
Saying Allahu Akbar is not enough to deem meat halal in my opinion and where I can accept the argument that saying nothing still makes the meat permissable as Dr. Shabbir well explained both sides of the argument, there is still the fact that we actually do not know in most cases, how the animal was raised or slaughtered (think of the assembly line of goats during Hajj time).
Nevermind, someone from the Church of Satan may own cattle farms and be sacrificing animals in the name of Satan with associated rituals to boot.
Lastly, it is not just sacrifices of animals in the name of false God's that is haram, but also food that is not meat, for example offerings of sweets consecrated in the name of idols and other dieties.
Apologize in advance in case these points were covered in any subsequent videos as I note this broadcast is 6 years old.
I would also like to add, that in addition to reasons mentioned by Dr. Shabbir, swine meat may also be haram because it is the closest to human flesh, which is pressumably haram to consume.
Perhaps that is a contributing factor to why the sanctity of humanity is being lost in front of our eyes.

Baraka Allahu fika Dr Shabir. In modern times, in the food industry, animals seem to be slaughtered in the name of god-money, it is not verbelized but implicit because of intention of profit, wa Allahu ya3lam. I find guidance in your teachings, jazaka Allahu khairan.

You explain the holistic way of Halal meat but you did not ask the ? What if it is cut with Machine instead of Hand Slater by machine slater it’s cuts in two part at once by hand cut it only cuts the nerves by which the blood comes out while the animal is dying please be clear in this ?

I would like to know where that hadeth is about the The Prophet (s.a.w) saying to say Bismillah if you don't know if it is halal or not.
I think in the Qur'an it says you have to say god's name before you kill the animal for food as well .

But how do we know if the meat was slaughtered under another name besides god?
If you know it yourself.
However, if you go to a restaurant, how would you know for sure who slaughtered the animal whether invoking the name of God, no one or another entity? Also, how would you know the animal was slaughtered in the first place, no halal-certified meat mostly comes from farms that kill them other artificial methods, to save time and scalability purposes. Therefore, although I think one can eat meat provided that it was slaughtered by a monotheist, in this current day and age the latter is impossible to confirm in most cases such as say you go to the restaurant or grab a sandwich for the groceries store. So it is probably best to consume halal-certified meat only. PS: Also, the animal has to be slaughtered.. Can't be stabbed or killed by other non-allowed methods, whether Christian or Muslim doing it - The variables to take into account are so many that it is not as simple as being allowed to eat seafood or not whose consumption morality derives from one's interpretation. in this case, there are too many sub-variables and procedures which one can't assure unless present during the slaughtering. Basically, just stick to halal.. There's plenty of options, best not to be greedy.
I was thinking this too. Mind you in Australia, where I live, finding a restaurant that serves halal meat is pretty hard. I am going to start eating vegetarian meals at restaurants I think, that way I can be sure it's halal. lol
I agree with most of what you're saying, but by the same logic, how can one be sure that "certified halal" was indeed slaughtered in the Zabihah way? That the animal was not weak or sick? Or that Allah's name was indeed taken.
P,.S I eat Zabihah only as well but these questions linger in my mind. When I lived in Pakistan, even there, I saw butchers often being cruel to the animal but since it's a Muslim country, we all just assumed that it's Zabihah

But eating halal certified is still the safest one, your job is to make sure you do your best to eat halal, which in my strategy is described as eating halal certified only, even if you are allowed meat slaughtered by other monotheists. If the meat still ends up being haram you are not at fault as you did your best.

Wow. I'm of Indian descent and most of the muslims where I stay are Indian descent and we have to have the meat slaughtered by saying bismillah and then will be certified halaal. I noticed arab people who come here eat anything except pork and all the Indian muslims found that weird and thought they doing wrong but now i see the reasoning

there is a Hadith narrated in Bukhari " a Jewish woman invited Prophet on dinner & she cooked goat meat # Prophet & Sahaba ( i have to confirm whether there was one Sahabi or more than one Sahabi ) ate the meat though the Jewish woman attempted to assassinate Prophet through injecting poison in meat " # regardless of her assassination attempt the Hadith clearly provides evidence that Jewish slaughtered meat is permissible for Muslims # in addition Quran verses say " U ( Muslims ) will find more closer & loving to U ( Muslim ) who are Christians " # therefore Christians slaughtered meat is also permissable #

Jazakallah, so basically means according to syafi'i, if we Eat KFC or McDonald in atheist majority countries which not mention any other name due to the slaughter, it is halal/pure.

The people of the book were monotheists. Christians of old were monotheistic until the Romans and other gentile bishops created the trinity during many counsils from 325 a.d. onward. There are some small minority of Christians who don't accept the trinity and keep Sabbath etc..
Can you guys imagine what time has come? Highest scholars of Islam don't mention that if Gods name were not mentioned during the slaughter, then the food is abomination to eat. Everywhere I looked they mention only that if they slaughter it in another Gods name then it is haram.

Strongly agree!!. We are getting misguided by some schollars who claim you can eat McDonald's or other fast food. Sure they want give muslims favorite and separate meat or on grill. Come on please. Allah clearly says has to be mentioned his name. So what is purpose of saying we need to eat halal? So call halal and which meat is halal. Everyone is cheating. Means we just go to market and buy any meat according to their teaching.

People miss the context of this verse and paint the other verses with this one... especially the people following Hanafi school, it seems.

When food was brought to prophet that was diferent case becouse he was respectful to others and he could not make choice at moment . But when when we are making our choice then we should be aware of . Not eating from McDonald's like some scholars claim we can. Nice, but a little bothered with that statements as to why the swine/pig may haram to eat, because jehova witnesses said the same thing mentioning refrigerators, or cooking at a high heat. That statement was unacceptable.

Same reason why doctors care what you eat and nutritionists care about what you eat, or you’re parents. Certain foods, meets, could be harmful or beneficial to you. Pigs and red meat have studied showing the increased chance of cancers and diseases. Aside From that it’s quite disrespectful to eat meat that was blessed for honoring another god or multiple gods. Just common sense to listen and obey you’re creator. As you would listen and obey laws or teachers or parents or the police etc
My theory on the subject regarding why Muslims were prohibited to eat pork is this. The Muslims were living among Jews and in order not to offend the Jews, they abstained from pork. Pigs are raised as farm animals. Some of the other animals which were prohibited in the Old Testament had to be hunted. I have looked at the dietary restrictions in the Koran and they are essentially identical with those mentioned in the New Testament with the addition of pork as being a meat to be abstained from. St. Paul said:
Give no offense, either to the Jews or to the Greeks or to the church of God. (I Corinthians 10:32, NKJV)
In order not to offend the Jews, I think that the Muslims were prohibited from eating pork.
Jesus said:
Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man. (Matthew 15:11, NKJV)
However, there has always been a prohibition against eating blood. It is not the blood that defiles a man. It is the act of eating that which has been prohibited that defiles a man. Likewise, this goes for eating animals that have been strangled. There are other prohibitions in our Church canons regarding diet.
The divine Scripture commands us to abstain from blood, from things strangled, and from fornication. Those therefore who on account of a dainty stomach prepare by any art for food the blood of any animal, and so eat it, we punish suitably. If anyone henceforth venture to eat in any way the blood of an animal, if he be a clergyman, let him be deposed; if a layman, let him be cut off. (Canon LXVII, Quinisext Council, 692 A.D.)
If any bishop, or presbyter, or deacon, or indeed any one of the sacerdotal catalogue, eats flesh with the blood of its life, or that which is torn by beasts, or which died of itself, let him be deprived; for this the law itself has forbidden. But if he be one of the laity, let him be suspended. (Canon LXIII, Canons of the Holy Apostles)
As for food offer to idols, Christians are allowed to whatever is sold in the marketplace, like St. Paul said. However, if we are not allowed to eat food that has been offered to idols unless it has been sold in the marketplace. This is not something to be concerned about today in North America. Most people do not worship the ancient gods of the Romans and the Greeks. Most people do not sell food that has been offered to those gods in the marketplace like they did in ancient times. We are forbidden to eat food that has been sacrificed to some other god in a religious context. Actually, according to the church canons, we are supposed to abstain from attending idolatrous worship services and feasts. So, no Orthodox Christian should ever be in such a situation where people are eating animals sacrificed to idols in a religious context.
Rather, that the things which the Gentiles sacrifice they sacrifice to demons and not to God, and I do not want you to have fellowship with demons. (I Corinthians 10:20, NKJV)
I understand this verse from the Quran in the light of I Corinthians 10:20.
And eat not of that whereon Allah's name hath not been mentioned, for lo! it is abomination. Lo! the devils do inspire their minions to dispute with you. But if ye obey them, ye will be in truth idolaters. (Quran 6:121, Pickthall)
This verse is talking about eating food that has been sacrificed to idols. That is my opinion. The pagan Arabs worshiped a god who had three daughters. That god's daughters were to them goddesses. If someone offered up an animal to one of those false gods, then Muslims should not eat it. Christians should not eat it either.
As for the writings of St. Paul, they are Holy Scripture. St. Peter, who was one of the twelve apostles of Jesus, considered them to be part of the Scriptures of the Christians. (II Peter 3:15 16)
There is plenty of evidence that seventh century Christians were using the fourteen epistles of St. Paul as Holy Scripture. Actually, fourth century Christians were doing that. (The Catechetical Lectures of St. Cyril of Jerusalem, the African Code, St. Gregory the Theologian, St. Jerome, Blessed Augustine of Hippo, some Councils of Carthage and Hippo which preceding the writing of the African Code, etc.)
Muhammad accepted the Scriptures that Christians used. (Quran 29:46; 42:15) He received no new revelations. (Quran 41:43) He was not an innovator among the messengers. (Quran 46:9) The Quran confirms whatever Scriptures went before it. (Quran 5:48) There should be no contradiction between one's interpretation of the Bible and the Quran. The same teachings should be derived from both books. That is also my opinion.

Bible ≠ Quran. Quran doesn't allow beer, pork, wild animals, anything that causes yourself harm and more while the bible most of if not all these things.
