    I think the Bach - Air guitar solo in this song is perfect. Early !8th centry music is still going strong!

      Oh, did he use one of Bach's pieces? Ohhhhh I need to hear it! Unless I did already, it really didn't sound familiar at all but it gave me the bumps xD
      EDIT* I'm glad to see you're still around x)

    This is one of my favorite songs. The line that always gets to me is "Hurry up, we're waiting for you. Men of the 9th, and civilians too." At the end of the war it was about saving lives, to get as many people as possible out of the city. Hold the corridor. As horrifying as the war had been and everything the Nazis had done, there were soldiers who had been fighting to defend their homeland, and there were civilians who had simply been trying to stay alive. It's easy to look back and say we would never have allowed it, we would had said something, done something, but many Germans, both civilian and military, lived every day in fear, keeping their heads down and trying to survive just one more day. It's those people I imagine this song is about, the ones who felt ashamed of what Germany had become, but too helpless and insignificant to dare stand up against it. Not all Germans were evil, no matter what the movies will have us believe.

    Great reaction as always Jay! Your reaction were very simular to my reaction first hearing this song. It has since just grown even more on me. I come back to from time to time and just reflect on that moment in time. The lyrics gets you thinking.
    Also the solo for this one is just perfect.

      Nah thank YOU for the suggestion my guy, this is easily in my top 5 tracks from Sabaton. An instant favorite! It does get you thinking, dunnit
      The soldiers follow orders, but what if the orders are reprehensible. Follow them anyways? Become insubordinate and risk death? How much can we lay the blame on the soldiers as a whole... Obviously there are some bad guys in there, but most are human (in terms of morals) who didn't really have a choice.
      History, ain't it a thing? How privileged we are to be able to look back with hindsight and make judgements. I'd never judge the past because I too have no idea what I would have done. Appreciate the comment brother!

    Berlin is impossible to reach so Wenck developed a plan to move his army towards the Forest of Halbe, he planned to link up with the remnants of the Ninth Army., and the Potsdam garrison. Wenck also wanted to provide an escape route for as many citizens of Berlin as possible.
    Arriving at the furthest point of his attack, Wenck radioed the message: "Hurry up, we are waiting for you.". So that line in the song refers to the radio message Wenck send to all the forces and civilians near their position. Estimates vary, but it is likely the corridor his forces opened enabled up to 250,000 refugees, including up to 25,000 men of the Ninth Army, to escape towards the west just ahead of the advancing Soviets.

    I think this tribute to the 12th army is a very fitting one. Showing that these men were not fighting for the NSDAP or for the angry austrian painter. But for their country and their people. At the very end of the war they pushed through the russian encirclement of berlin, managing along with the Potsdam Falkturm garrison to rescue many of the surrounded german soldiers as well as 100000's of civilians. The 12th army holding an ever thinner line against russian attack. So that as many people could flee as possible even though the US army tried to stop them from doing so. After rescuing as many people as they could they retreated across the river themselves, General Walther Wenck and his command platoon being the last people to cross. The General held the line till the last. THAT is honor.

    Wehrmacht gives kinda the same feelings, asking questions about the soldiers knowing what happend in the camps and what the SS did.

    I wasn't sure what to expect when I saw the thumbnail but you were really appreciative of the music and the lyrics :) Not really something I'd consider a "bop" but it's a great song. Thanks for being so chill with it.

      Sorry for the verbiage, when I say "bop" I just mean it's a really good song with a great beat. I know their songs are not really "dance" worthy, but I almost got out of my chair for this one!

    Thank you for this great reaction to this often overlooked gem from my favourite metal guys.. the story behind this song is actually very interesting and kinda sad the same time, so I highly recommend the excellent Sabaton History episode about it. Keep the good work going, greetings from a German Sabaton fan for over 20 years now!

      I get that they're famous but they deserve to be more well known! I know fans don't like it when I say that, they interpret that statement as if I mean to say no one knows them.
      Their music is phenomenal, their lyrics are genius, Joakim's voice is superb, I still say they need to be BIGGER!!

    This is a really beautiful song.
    The regular army should not be held responsible for what the SS did. And this is the regular army protecting the German people.
    Pure drama in music.

    • @peo4989
      @peo4989 3 месяца назад

      Yeah but not all SS troops were bad neither most were professionals and commanders were known to execute soldiers that treated civilians bad. Plunder of civilians and rape was punishable by death. The only SS that were rotten apples were those that later in the war were the criminals that was used as campguards and then raised as fillers in SS divisions

      Regular german units did also commit atrocities, mainly in the eastern front, but all soldiers in the german army did not deserve collective punishment for those acts, especially those who were not really fit for service, but were drafted towards the end of the war anyway.
      I have to give my respects to Walther Wenck (the commander of the 12th army) who saw which way the winds were blowing and tried to save as many as he could with what little strength they had left, it really was a humanitarian mission as much as it was a military operation.

    • @Clouded_Reactions
      @Clouded_Reactions  3 месяца назад

      I could agree for sure that the sins of the SS, be it some of many, shouldn't be applied to all the soldiers in the German Army. At the end of the day, soldiers fight and follow orders. Or risk death. I'm glad the true evil criminals in the Reich were brought to justice, well, not all but we need to take the dubs wherever we can.
      A beautiful song indeed, it quickly became one of my instant favorites!

    • @FemaleSniper86
      @FemaleSniper86 3 месяца назад +1

      @@huggebugg3694 yes but so did every army during ww2.. not a single country stayed their hands from atrocities.. many that could have straight up been called war crimes and put them to harsh punishments, but.... why punish "the saviors", hm..

    • @residentfan1521

      I look at the Wehrmacht like the American army. If a democrat is in office, that doesn’t make every individual in the army a republican and vice versa. The Nazis were a political party so the same logic applies.
