When I started to research transitioning from female to male 10 years ago I left the Evangelical Friends Church where I had been a member. They were pretty conservative and I had already encountered opposition from people who didn't like my left leaning politics. I am happy that you have an accepting and loving meeting.
Wonderful story. Thanks. I remember talking with my trans co-worker about our shared stories. Not so much the challenges from coming forward to reveal a truth that requires people to adjust their perception (though I did lose friends after revealing my faith); more about our own transformation, revealing our personal truth publicly, and other shared aspects. She is Jewish so we had added faith aspects to talk about too. Our experiences are clearly different. I mean only to share here how I was touched in our connection, our shared humanity. Some can think another person has a really different experience if we don't talk; then find deep shared experience when we take the chance to talk with folks.
I really believe the day will come when transgender people won't have to worry about others' reactions when they tell them they are trans. I hope that day is soon and I will do everything I can to help make it sooner.
