He wrote multiple suicide letters (if he was forced, it's more likely that just one letter would have been written, not three six page letters) and he was found dead with a ligature around his neck. There's never been any suggestion that this was other than a tragic suicide.
Such a sad story. It's hard to feel bad for him, but I've met some people with brain trauma and they genuinely lose control when they get angry, sad, etc. (different for everyone). They also get confused and feel horrible when they finally calm down. I'm not sold on CTE being the cause, but either way something in his brain was malfunctioning and it ruined a lot of lives.

Lawry M. We have never recorded a brain specimen close to the tremendous level of damage as his, especially the frontal lobe which controls rational thinking and impulsivity. I’m not saying it is a cop out for the bad things he did but that it contributed to him being a bad person (on top of the shitty life full of abuse and neglect).
