Your excellent and easy to understand explanation and photos answered my question about what I am seeing. It is a Red Shouldered Hawk. It is loud and always calling out.
Thank you! I saw one yesterday in the parking lot of Golden Bear Restaurant on Starkey. He flew right over my head and landed in front of me. It was awesome.
I have a red shoulder hawk that has been hanging around my back yard for about two weeks. Another hawk usually comes with it. They look different though. The other hawk has mostly a white speckled belly and wings the shoulder hawk has a all peach color belly
I've noticed that red-tailed hawks prefer open land like pastures and fields, whereas red-shouldered hawks tend to hang around wooded areas and creeks.
Thank you! Had some hawks in living in the back yard. Which I assumed were red tailed. Now know they are red shouldered. :)
