    That was the same day I saw 1309 for the first time. Heck I’m even visible in first Helmstetter’s Curve shot, near the crossing next to a black truck. It was on the return trip I ran into you and your buds at the top

    Nice capture! My Dad used to work on this Mallet engine as a Norfolk and Western locomotive in Bluefield, W Va

      Do you mean Chesapeake & Ohio? This engine never operated for the N&W to my knowledge. That is cool your dad worked on it.

      According to my Dad, N&W used Mallets to for hauling coal. They were based in Roanoke. He worked on them in Bluefield WVa.

      Correct but this locomotive never operated for the Norfolk & Western. Various railroads had mallet type steam locomotives. The c&o had various as did n&w, SP and a few others.
