I believe the whole idea of it (besides to sell perfume) is that their love did last forever. They were separated but the love was still in their hearts and their memories. "Has she forgotten? I know I will not." He remembers everything down to the smallest detail including her perfume. The fantasy was not worn down.

i just finished watching 2 fashion shows, balenciaga, which was just wretched, valli, which was tolerable. nothing will ever, EVER compare to this!! it's just so gorgeous and perfect! this is for chanel#5, but all the clothing is karl lagerfeld. it's just the right mix, miss kidman, clair de lune, you cannot top it! i'm so happy to see so many fashion informed people here. as for the others, well, you know!!
