  • Through the first four games of his career, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett has two touchdowns and seven interceptions, and is at the bottom of the NFL in passer rating. And when looking at players to possess similar stat-lines through their first four games, let's just say that Kenny Pickett is not in good company whatsoever, to the point where every single QB to get off to a similar start turned out to be horrible

Right? Funny watching people blame Pickett for the interceptions while his WR is literally falling down in the route, allowing the uncontested INT. A couple other picks bounced off receivers' hands. He's had a few bad passes, but at least half the INTs were not his fault. Honestly, he's done a lot better than the stats reflect. Especially if you ignore his rushing stats too like the guy who made this because it doesn't fit the narrative of this shitty video. He doesn't have 2 TD to 7 INT. He has 4TD to 7 INT with some questionable picks. Otherwise, he's hitting 72% of his targets which is actually really good. 4th in the league, so that doesn't add up to the idea of him being inaccurate

I agree its too early to know what any player is after three games. If you're willing to take a guy in the 1st Round, you should be willing to start him 30 games and not use him as a battering ram (looking at you Shanahan). I push back against the Zach Wilson negativity for the same reason, give him time. HOWEVER there is a difference when the stats are historically bad AND you aren't physically dominant in at least one way. ZW has a legit strong NFL arm strength, whereas Kenny has an alright arm. The guy flees clean pockets and only broke out after grooming from Whipple and consistent leadership from the HC. Jordan Addison is a huge reason Pickett broke out. Something about a 5th year player with small hands and a major in marketing I just don't trust. He was smart enough follow Arkansas' tiny-handed QB Brandon Allen's lead with hand massages. Double jointed too, cool. I found 12 games in his career where weather was a factor and overall his numbers aren't good. Add in the fact he looked horrible, worse than the other QBs at the Senior Bowl during the one practice that had rain. KP didn't play into late December and January when the weather actually gets bad in western PA. Games at Heinz from September to October aren't bad. Plus how many home games can you play at in November scheduling wise, you know? If he was playing in December it was a neutral site game. He isn't the second coming of Joe Burrow, he's much closer to a fluke. With all this being said, Matt Canada isn't helping matters right now.
TLDR: I had a 4th round grade on Pickett and am not sold on him as an NFL starter.

In Kenny Pickett’s defense (this coming from a Packers fan, so no homer), three of his first four games have come against Top 10 defenses in the NFL, which is a tough challenge for any NFL quarterback, let alone a rookie. Also, it’s not like Mitch Trubisky is a whole hell of a lot better option.

however the steelers would never move on from him unless he retired on his own terms. they don’t fire coaches, they either retire or allow their contracts to conveniently expire. that’s one of the major problems with the organization. they could give tomlin (or even matt canada) a 100 year contract extension and in the year 2122 whatever remains of his corpse will still be there on the sideline saying “the standard is the standard” and “we shouldn’t live in our fears”.

Still has some things to learn in reading coverages and playing in the NFL, but I’ve definitely seen flashes of pro QB material. And he’s nice at scrambling for yards when he needs to. He’s just in a horrible situation.
When your team has zero run game and defenses know you’re passing, it makes things much harder - and you have a rookie QB throwing the ball 45 times a game. That’s not gonna work usually.
Plus these are the teams he’s gone up against so far…
Jets (for a half, who are legit)
    Bills
    Buccaneers
    Dolphins
    Eagles

most of the clips you showed are an indictment of Pickett, but of the o-line. If it isn't apparent, what I want you to do is watch the Pitt clips in comparison with the Steelers clips. Note the difference in how long it takes the pocket to collapse and note what options he has once the collapse occurs. What I noticed doing this is that in Pitt his o-line held more strongly on pass plays than the Steelers and on plays where the pocket did collapse quickly, it was by design to get a receiver open on a screen or short pass. With the Steelers, his options are extremely limited because there's not protection and no alternative options for when the play does collapse.

Pickett will go down as one of the biggest busts of all-time. If you are in Ryan Leaf territory this early in your career, you will never get it figured out. Also this also proves the critics pointing out his dainty hands right as well as that plays directly into his inability to pass the ball down the field more than 10 yards.

I don't think the maker of this video knows much about football or watches the game. I honestly think KP is the best player on their offense. He's handicapped by no running game and an unimaginative OC. Maybe 3 of those INT's are on him. Two of them hit the Rec's hands. The other was a hail-Mary. He forced one in MIA where the OL caused a 3rd an 16. Probably didn't think they'd get the ball back. What a dumb video. Dude can play ball, no question.

One thing this video failed to mention because it was only talking about the first 4 games of these careers, is that my Broncos gave up a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick in 1980 to acquire Robinson. They cut him in 1981. After the Russell Wilson trade, it's too soon to be bringing up Matt Robinson. Too soon.

Kenny does suck but y'all can't admit it cuz you all were calling for him from the jump thinking he was a top QB. He was a reach and Trubisky should've had more fan support. I'm embarrassed to call myself a Steelers fan because of how disgusting y'all treated Trubisky. Never gave him a real chance with a new team and he was better than Pickett has been. He was playing for a fan base that didn't support him knowing if he made a mistake his own fans would boo him. That's gross. I blame Tomlin and Colbert for drafting Kenny and putting Mitch in that position. This next draft was going to have considerably more talent at QB, they should've waited. Kenny small hands will never be a pro bowler, Mitch already was with a bad offense. Mitch should be starting. Be careful what you wish for.

A very poor take. We've also conveniently forgot that he has 2 rushing touchdowns. Obviously not the same as passing, but those represent good, solid drives down the field. Use the ratio 4 TD/7 INT and I'm sure you have many more QBs. Also, though this happens to every QB, there are a 2-3 picks that were not at all on him. In general though, a 3 game sample is a ridiculously small amount. Even a year is small to analyze QBs.

I was pulling for the Steelers to draft Kenny until they signed Trubisky. I figured they wouldn’t try to get another QB.
    Then Dwayne Haskins died.
    And Joshua Dobbs left.
And of course it was never gonna be Mason Rudolph.
Had Haskins lived, he probably would still only be QB3. But I still wonder if the Steelers would still have drafted Pickett in that circumstance.
It’s almost an Alternate History theory, and we’ll probably never know.

As a Bills fan, I'm gonna put out the questions the Bills answered to get to where they are this year.
    1. Does the QB have the raw athletic ability to be a great QB or is he just a poser with a little skill and luck?
    2. Is he COACHABLE or is he another Johnny Football?
    3. Can we provide him the O Line to protect him or will he be broken by repeated sacks?
    4. Can we provide receivers to make his throwing worthwhile?
    5. Can we provide a running alternative for tactical flexibility?
    6. Can we provide a D Line to ensure we're not always chasing the other team's TDs?
If you can't answer "yes" to ALL those questions your team will never see the playoffs.

You show stats of Kenny being below average at certain areas of throwing, when in reality the Steelers OC literally does not call concepts that go to those areas. You say pickett makes questionable decisions when literally all of his interceptions asides from the final 2 drives in the Dolphins game are either on the recioevers for dropping the ball or falling, or on Hail Mary's. He led a drive down the field to win the game and made a mistake when he should've ran, but he is a rookie who does not have first team experience yet. Let him try and win the game.
