- AC Shadows is making noise as it continues to gain in preorders and the internet continues to dog-pile it for being an overpriced woke Ubisoft title. Par for the course. One issue that I think is being missed though - the hate helping. And not the way you think it is.

I just don't think it's smart that people are pre-ordering the game already when they haven't seen any gameplay. I know the game will probably be good, but it's a real gamble if you haven't seen any gameplay.
I agree but if that's how they spend their money let em its bad they have to answer to themselves I always wait for gameplay that's all I know what they do is up to them 😅
I pre ordered because I'm a AC fan that being said I also did it on Amazon where if it turns out bad I can just cancel Amazon doesn't charge till it ships that's why I don't support places that charge before the item releases because things happen between the pre order and release like delays personal issues heck you could move in the time it takes for a game to release and have the thing shipped to a location that is completely vacant now lock in charging for pre orders should just never be allowed in my opinion way to much can go wrong between the the order and release date
@JoshuaVaughan-pi1sn atleast your smart about it you have a way set up much like me I go to gamestop and put 5 bucks down on any game I pre order just to have it there in case I want said game I did that with dragon's dogma, rise of ronin and stellar blade and if the gameplay looks fun I might put 5 bucks down for this too I only care about gameplay tbh all the other drama I could care less about

@@the_anime_binge_teen_is_1954 yeah I'm not into paying for something that isn't even out yet when God knows what can happen I also gotta manage pre orders better can only afford 1 pre order a month after bills final fantasy 7 rebirth came out the same month as another game I wanted couldnt have both had to cancel 1 in favor of the other the fact I forgot the others name tells you final fantasy was a little more important to me lol but yeah once a month it's bills 1 pre ordered game if anything worthwhile comes out that is maybe a pre ordered movie or 2 again depends on releases that month and then play money and I repeat that once a month even if I have money left over I refuse to break from my pattern been doing it for 30 years not changing it now

The problem with this game is that it advertises it as historical fact.
If it had been promoted on the premise that it was a completely fictional story, this wouldn't have been an issue.
Nobunaga freed him from slavery and hired him, but he was not given a surname. If he could fight, why did he not do anything when Nobunaga was killed?
The samurai who found him after the war thought that Yasuke had nothing to do with the battle between the samurai. Therefore, Yasuke was let go and his whereabouts are unknown.
The problems with this game are as follows:
"Martin Luther King Jr was merely a portable shrine held up by a powerful white man with a good heart. This is a historical fact."
"Edison was not a great inventor, but a simple businessman who collected ideas from his talented black subordinates and made them into a business."
"Haiti gained independence in 1804 thanks to the efforts of those with white blood, and black people alone could not have done such a thing."
Japanese people feel discriminated against because the creators of this game think it is okay to treat Japanese history in this way.
In fact, some people have fabricated proverbs that do not exist in Japan, such as the following, in relation to the drama "Shogun."

The only way to stop Ubisoft is not by hate.. it’s by competition. We need another game company to start a new franchise with stealth gameplay in historical times.
Like any company that does something you don't like - the best way to stop them is with your wallet. If you don't like it - don't buy it. Given its current performance projections, people seem to like it.
Unfortunately, my wallet is not huge enough to do anything. Someone else will always buy it, only good way to have an alternative otherwise AC will just dominate the market

@@ShinzuXTruth Those are different games and I played none of them. But I play Assassin’s Creed because it bounces from different countries and timeline, it’s not just Japan. I prefer medieval Europe but I will still play shadows just because it’s AC.

My issue with Shadows is excessive monetization. Season pass, battle passes, macro-transactions.
And as we know, if it's successful most publishers will make it standard. All of this Yasuke stuff is burying it. I see little to no talk about it. It's so frustrating

I never pre order anymore, but I will be getting this game. Only reason I wouldnt buy a higher priced edition is because I never buy a season pass until I see the content in it.

It's a fantasy franchise that's peppered with historical Easter eggs and locations. As long as it that still I'm buying it.
I've enjoyed every single AC game since the first one so I gambled that I'll enjoy this one. I already pre-ordered the top tier and I can't wait to play it as soon as it's available!

As shown in the video, the AC games have been steadily increasing in sales since Origins, and it is highly doubtful that a black samurai and a ninja girl is going to stop AC fans from picking this up. You also need to recognize that Yasuke is a very popular character in Japan, starring in several games created by the Japanese themselves. Making him one of the MCs was a very smart move, because there are a lot of people on both sides of the pacific that have been wanting to play as this character in a game like this.
In short; This game is going to sell very well.

I am cool with the female ninja, they are literally in the Shogun show. Perfect. The samurai character choice is a bit weird but it doesn’t affect the game, but having just watched Shogun would have preferred to be a native Japanese samurai but it’s fine. As for the pricing it’s pretty bad but I’ll, just wait for it to get cheaper.

We looked into the pricing. They’ve been selling 2 DLC season passes as far back as Origins. It just isn’t new.

I think people also take into account that if Ubisoft did use a Japanese male character, they would have highly criticized the game as being a Ghost of Tsushima clone! They will say they are not being original…blah blah blah. People wanted devs to be original or have artistic freedom and look what has happened! Some people are just entitled, terrible people!

I've enjoyed every AC game I've played. The characters and story are secondary to the gameplay. I voted with my wallet and placed a preorder.
I don’t know why everyone acts like ac games are bad. Valhalla is one of my favorite games ever. Currently about 60 hours into my first Elden ring playthrough and I like Valhalla more. Ac is the best open world series out there besides maybe red dead redemption.
@HahahMamaman black flag is based in the Caribbeans with a WHITE protagonist and they made a Caribbean protagonist with a DLC instead of him being the main character in the main game, guess what? As a Caribbean person its my favorite game of the series not because it features my birth place and home but because the story was so engaging i didnt even think about "wow why am i playing as a white guy?" It didnt even cross my mind or register to me

Also in all the other AC games the main playable characters were never real people... you were always a made up fictional character that went around meeting real historical figures... Why couldn't Yasuke just be a character you meet in the game and do some missions with him...

Wait so ghost of Tsushima was based on a real war with fictional characters, but no one cried that they didn’t put real characters in it, but when assassin’s creed wants to make a game about a real historical figure it’s a problem, but at the end of the day, it’s a game a fucking game so guess what it doesn’t have to be historic accurate look at the assassin‘s Creed franchise please literally fighting gods in the desert in origins the pope use magic
The biggest problem is no doubt the horrible micro transactions, ultimate edition price, and season passes (on a single player game I might add) Then there is the complete change of AC combat where I feel like they just slapped AC on there to get sales because they are great games on their own. And finally it’s the constant need for diversity. I actually really like the idea of playing this dude and I hope we face racial conflicts and overcome them because of how nationalistic Japanese people are. Literally historically cutting themselves off from the world. Same with the woman shinobi I hope we get a Mulan type story with that. But the thing is I know we won’t. The reason Ubisoft did this was not to tell their great story it was to literally just be more diverse and it’s really sad because of how good the ideas are.

However we’ve played as Leonidas in the beginning of odyssey and Jack the Ripper in his dlc. Both were also made by Ubi Quebec so it’s a given that they like the historical characters

People are angry because in every single representation of every culture, it was a native citizen. AC in america was represented by a native american, AC valhalla was represented by you guessed it, a norse man. The list goes on until you finally reach AC Shadows. The stigma that asian american (particularly the men) don't have representation is particularly true and shines so bright here. It isn't about yasuke being a japanese historical figure. It's about the native representation. Yasuke could have been implemented as a main story quest line. Perhaps as a playable AC DLC. There were many ways to implement such a character, but to completely gloss over the fact that every character had a native male role represented until eastern asia... It's obvious why there's outrage. Your point in this video is ridiculous, as it argues for the historical accuracy of such a figure and no one gives a dime about it nor are most of the people that are "against" the historical accuracy of whether yasuke is a samurai give a dime about it. They are outraged because the cycle for representation ended at an asian male lead role. Your video is sending us back to the tom cruise as the last samurai era and it's ridiculous lol.

I payed for the ultimate edition of Ubisoft avatar game and it's the last time i ever even pre order a Ubisoft game. There still is no dlc from the season pass and it's been on sale from £120 down to £60 already wich is a gut punch. So i guess I'll wait for shadows to go on sale and be patched up because day 1 playthroughs these days are riddled with bugs n glitches and is weey overpriced
while frontiers of pandora was made by ubisoft, it was made by massive entertainment, the divisons ubisoft team..not an assassins creed team nor a far cry team. I wouldn't have put that much trust into a team unproven to make large scale rpgs.

Many likely didn't read some leak from 2023 that as you said, had information wrong. I personally am more offended that we have cultural appropriation occuring once again because the studios know the Asian community is less likely to fight back if it's a black character.

pre order sales are a niche subset of people so making assumptions about a game’s future financial success based on pre orders I feel is a bit early. Based on the negative feedback on this game I doubt that it is helping. the subset of die hard ac fans of course will b preordering. I will definitely play this game even tho it does pander to a woke agenda because I am an ac fan. but Saying this game is doin great this early? idk. I would disagree also w the opinion that this game is not pandering. Of course it is! Inclusion is a requirment these days in the games industry. And I mean it’s a game set in Japan with the assassin style this game is going to sell extremely well if I was not a long time assassins Creed fan, I would still buy it for the historical setting because I love ancient Japan and I’ve actually been studying it for the last few weeks and it’s set in the perfect time period also.

I really appreciated this deep dive, im seeing so much unhinged anger at the characters of this game that is super unwaranted, and largely fueled by racist garbage and anger at the monitization. This was a breath of fresh air. I also really appreciated you bringing up the counterpoints, and especially bringing up the old job posting from 2018.
I wish people could pivot the discussion to the actual important controversies of the characters, most notably if a real historical figure should be playable, and the ability for him to be gay in the options. Let me make this super clear, there is nothing wrong with an LGBT character at all. However, it is weird to overwrite a real person as a sexuality or gender that they are not. I think there is a really important discussion to be had here, of if it is ok for players to be able to make that choice
Nonetheless, I really thought this video was well done, I love the angle you took, and I think you covered things beautifully and thoughtfully while still also acknowledging the gameplay frustrations that people may have (monetization mainly)

The problem is that the objections aren't based on hate or racism. But you don't hear those arguments because defenders scream from the rooftops that those are all the arguments or trolls make those arguments.
The real arguments this is Ubisoft's racism by introducing another white savior into an Asian story who needs to "save the Japanese from oppression" (words taken directly from ubisoft marketing material), so there is racism, Asian erasure but this time instead of being white he's in black face. The open whitewashing of Japanese culture, instead of respecting Japanese culture they use it as a skin suit to promote their very white, very western values. Not to mention that the female story isn't based in Japanese culture at all, it's another gender bend where they will take the story and/or characteristics from an actual character and make them "hers", but her story will be every bit westernized (judging by what we have seen). Again, ignoring actual Japanese culture and how the female experience was in these days. Instead, we get another girl boss.

Anyways, what I said is that there is a massive amount of discourse around this game that is simple bigotry, which distracts from the genuine issue. One of which, is the xenophobia discourse, which I think is extremely important. It would be weird to not be able to "save imperial japan" as a Japanese person, and I also absolutely agree with how often Asian cultures are white washed, culture vultured, and so much more.
The problem is, this is not the argument most people are making. I have seen very very very few people actually bring up this issue, which is a real shame.
Additionally, Assassin's Creed has always told stories about groups that are oppressed in different settings. That's the entire point. A black immigrant being in a country that is very well known for being a monoculture is a powerful story about a person being subjected to oppression by another group. I don't see how this is any different

I somewhat agree with your other points, but I do think it’s possible we’ll see a significant drop in sales. Been an AC fan since 2007, and from my observation alone I’ve personally seen thousands in my own sphere who are irritated about several things here. If I’m seeing that in my own sphere I could only imagine how many others are irritated. I’ve seen a pretty healthy mix in Japan too.

But as I’m a man of integrity I have to tell the truth.Yasuke was a real samurai, that I can tell. Even in Dynasty warriors, which is based on historical figures but fictional gameplay, he does appears as a black samurai under nobunga. Female ninjas are truthfully skilled more than men cause of their flexibility and ninjitsu is more about stealth than frontal assaults plus dexterity is a must on a ninja’s way of life. Which women are naturally more capable to accomplish than men. Since their bones are more flexible too, if you don’t know how pregnancy works, their bones extend and then retract. While men can’t do this. That a woman can take on 3 males, depends on how she approach the situation. From a ninja’s perspective it is possible. Since ninjas are more than meet the eye. In ninjitsu dark arts are combined with martial arts plus the art of deception. So it is possible for a female to take on more than 3 men. Dark arts give ninjas impossible strength. So my take on this is Yasuke have earned a right to be there, the female ninja too. But gay characters shouldn’t be there cause Japan as many other nations were anti-gay, so that would not fit in there. Other than that I will not buy it but see how it goes.

The issue with the DLC comes from if it is complete and just barred off using a pass. That is just partitioning and selling parts of the game. Bad if that's the case.

Why not honor the culture and it’s people in this game with them ! Also kunoichi did not serve as stealthy assassins they way western media portrays them ! They were used in getting close to targets , flirting with the target gathering intel and even sleeping with targets to achieve their mission ! Things that male shinobi could not do ! They used their strength of persuasion ! If there was a target to be removed it would require many teams of soldiers ( genin ) and these were usually male shinobi ! As there were fewer kunoichi within a clan ! Shinobi were farmers and many of the weapons were made from farming tools ! But they trained relentlessly in many japanese warrior arts and eventually formed their own art ! There were often dressed as Shinto monks , blacksmiths ! Vendors ! And etc ! The traditional black garb was usually never in use except in the form of plays in the form of kabuki theater and other festivals . And many other apparel that they used to blend in ! So even though there were kunoichi ! They were not used in combative missions or assassain missions ! More as tools of infiltrations ! They were spies and even mercenaries that were usually acting out orders from another daimyo !

So I'll enjoy reading the Assassin's Wiki and all about the Japanese Brotherhood, Master Assassin Hatori and his ninjas who have fought the Templars in Japan since 1549 to bring order on the island and protect the artefact, the sword of Eden.
You carry on getting hyped about this duo of protagonists who are nothing more than Avengers tightened on another family drama and run on a parallel narrative with Assassin's Creed.
Obviously Ubisoft chose Yasuke to appease the rpg fan base. Those fans are their biggest money makers. They wanted to make everyone happy with 2 protagonists. Ubisoft is not trying to make a game for a small fan base. They’re a business not a charity. Whether you like it or not the majority of the fan base would rather play Valhalla than any ezio game. They chose Yasuke specifically, because he has one of the coolest backstories of anyone in Japan at the time and to separate themselves from every other Japanese game.
The girl is there to be a classic assassian, Yasuke is there for RPG elements (Origins, Odyssey, Valhalla) it brings in both classic players and RPG players.....now did Ubisoft do this to make money?
