I personally find that an online storage (like DropBox) is better for majority of things. You can search it quickly and email documents when necessary. There’s an app and you always have your phone on you. I use a small zip folder for everything else that we don’t have uploaded (ids, passports, OG birth certificates, etc) I think the big PCS binders are way too much to keep up with 😅 first pcs was w/a binder. Second pcs and moving forward is with online storage and a small zip folder. It was SO much easier. Give it a go!
That’s interesting! I had loads of paperwork given to us in the process so I had to keep it all somewhere. How did an online storage work for times where you had to give out copies of orders and stuff? It sounds much nicer to have everything online!
@@AshleyVering I kinda had a hybrid system- part paper, mostly online. We did have 10 copies of orders they suggested we kept on us, but I think that was the only thing aside from the paperwork housing gave us moving out. That also went in the small zip up folder with receipts in a zip lock bag (like you did)(its the same size as a normal two sided folder kinda like a thin zipping accordion folder. It probably sounds more complicated than it was. We have dogs that have medical paperwork, my medical records, car lien paperwork, previous lease agreements, receipts from large purchases, ect that are all VERY important to have but cumbersome to lug around when you're in and out of hotel rooms or flying with multiple bags. My first PCS binder was probably about 12 pounds. My second PCS with my "hybrid system" was maybe 2 pounds. Hopefully all that makes sense.
I was stationed in Germany in the early 90's and there was a waiting list for family housing.. The military member had to be the rank of E-4..Has the Army flipped that now and you need to be E-5 or above to live off post..Great videos BTW way..I like to still follow military You Tube families in Germany.. If you ever get to Stuttgart you need to do a vlog..I was stationed on Panzer Kaserne in Boeblingen..
The visa took longer because at the time we were allowed to move with only having applied for it. We were not required to have it in hand which I believe now you do. The process from beginning to end took about 2 1/2 months. Command sponsorship took about 3 weeks, but the visa did not arrive until a month or so after we arrived. Keep in mind though that this might be quicker because it was during COVID. The process was made quicker because we had to push back our move a few times so when we were able to move they wanted to get us over here before things changed again.
Be aware of the fact that you might need another binder for being stationed overseas. US paper format: >letter< 8.50 x 11.00 inches or 216 x 279 mm (used in the United States and nine other countries) regular paper format: >DIN A4< 210 x 297 mm or 8.27 x 11.69 inches (used in the rest of the world)
@@AshleyVering You are right, the US military in Germany uses the US format. It applies to those who are living off-post on the economy, have a German rental contract, and receive German utility bills.
Oh my gosh thank you for posting this!! I am trying to organize my folder now!! So helpful 😭 my brain is going crazy
I totally understand! It’ll all be worth it in the end 😊

How much time between apply for command sponsorship and get visa ?

Surprisingly, we did not have that issue! I think because we’re stationed at an American post they used US format.

Great point! I didn’t even think about that!
