Great review,it does look a bit awkward to set up and probably not ideal for overnight stops but for extended stays it’s great . I’ve been using a single stretcher for a couple of years now (getting older) and they are the best for all the reasons you mentioned. Good on Kulkyne for having a crack it can only lead to improved camping outcomes for all of us.
No centre (centre UK, center US - I try not to let the American influence creep into my spelling) is an absolute bonus, Steve. It seems you like many of us are looking for the Nervana of stretchers for our wide swags. I sport the Sahara Drover which is a full 1100mm wide. Accordingly, many of the stretchers on the market, as good as they are, aren't wide enough for the premium swags like the Sahara. Camping by its nature is a relaxation away from the business of work. Who was it said, "life's a journey, not a race?" Fifteen minutes, five minutes, twenty minutes, when my sons and I are setting up camp, the banter takes front stage. The establishment of our base is part of the journey - along with the requisite refreshments. Thanks for pursuing what is clearly a dream for you - recording and reviewing camping. Cheers mate, would love to camp out sometime.
It looks like it needs a stabiliser bar or two running the length between the legs too. I could see a bit of rocking action back & forth (And that was on flat ground) 🤔... Also will love to see how the velcro & hook turnbuckles last. I did see the hooks have a sharp pointy end & if installed wrong might wear through the canvas 😠
Hey Stev looks like it be a good asset for you and Toby when you're out camping for extended periods. As with most things practice makes perfect and I do agree with that 3 o'clock wake up call there's nothing worse than trying to get off the ground. Great review look forward to hearing how you go with it a long term thanks mate 👍
Looks good and I like Kulkyne gear great value and quality when compared to some of the top line brands. So what if it takes a little time to set-up, if you're stoping in one place for 2, 3, 5 + nights you're in no hurry. Remember to unwind slow down take your time and if that means a good nights kip while camping then the extra time setting up is worth it.
Great video mate, I think there is definitely a market for this. People come into my work all the time asking if we do them. I think it would be great for an extended stay but maybe a bit time consuming and complicated for an over nighter. In saying that lots of people would probably be willing to put up with the negatives.
Exactly right. I’ll give it a crack for a few trips and see if my setup time improves with experience. That will give me a better idea of if I’ll use it long term or not.
Great video I think for under 10min set up even for one night 8hours sleepsing well worth the set up It's a no-brainer 10 minutes setup 10 minutes to pack away and get a good night's sleep
I’ve got a kulkyne air pole swag with deluxe mattress and there sleeping bag and it’s the best thing ever, I pump it up with compressor in my ute in 30seconds
Except set up from Kulkyne queen swag and stretcher plus swag bag $1000 plus , after half dozen set ups it’s now in shed and can stay there !! Trust me once you have to throw swag and stretcher on roof racks couple of times just to heavy mate 👍 good luck hope it works for ya but set up camp each day cooks ya ! Now back in ARB swag at least I can set up quick 👍👍
I’ll stick to my 150mm exped double mattress on the ground and a tent thanks setup time is about the same Yes the 3am crawl can be done with a technique where you do a tumble roll😂 I’m keen on their king single, a review of the swag would be appreciated Great honest review
Hey mate, looks like a good concept. If you swapped out the 4 turnbuckles for 2 ratchet straps between the ends or even on around the centre of the poles instead of utilising the loops. My guess is it would work the same and be so much quicker. Let me know how you get on and if that works I might invest.
Hi Steve. Thanks for the video. Do you or do you know anyone who has tried the Darche XL Double Stretcher in comparison…also no centre pole. Keen on buying one of them and can get the Darche here in NZ but not Kulkyne. Cheers.
I don’t know them personally but from what I’ve heard, it’s a bit slow to setup and still sags in the guts. But that’s second hand knowledge so I can’t confirm it.
They're used for the storm flaps at the ends of the swag, they hook into the stretcher and tension the storm flaps, instead of pegging them out with guy ropes.
I'm still yet to see a review on these that makes it look worth the extra effort, bcfs double expander with the pole is close enough and fits the double swags just as good
A few mate have them. Only under them on 2 trips then got so fed up with the weight, bulk, time to set up…. It works on papers but sucks in real life. Avoid unless your using in a base camp for a week or so
I know it can't be helped but there seems to be a bit too much movement in the stretcher for me. Would definitely feel the other person moving around. Lucky for me, my family doesn't enjoy camping. I'll stick to my single swag and stretcher.
Thanks Steve another good review as always. As you know I use a double stretcher. And I’m an advocate for them, 2 people perfect but now the 3 boys are in and the middle bar is a nightmare. I’m going to think about this…. But the time factor is a killer….. keep up great work mate. Aaron @200serieslc
Why dont you just get a camper trailer 😂. Nifty kit, but that looks to fiddly. Be interesting to see how it goes out in the field, when its pouring with rain everything is wet and muddy.

Exactly right. The more popular they become the more $$ company’s will put into making them better

I have enough time consuming hobbies, I don't want to add assembling unnecessarily complicated double stretchers to the list! :)
It’s definitely not the fastest of things to do but it’s the best currently on the market.

Fun setting that up when you roll into camp at night

Thanks mate. Yeah I’m keen to try it out in the field to see what it’s really like
Good review, coincidentally been looking at these thanks!
Hopefully this helped then.

Some trips I’ve got time and some trips I don’t. Not every trip is an unwise relax trip. Sometimes they are high energy and always moving.

Well you've sold me on it hahaha, I'm with you on the 15min set ups
I’ll stick to my 150mm exped double mattress on the ground and a tent thanks setup time is about the same
Yes the 3am crawl can be done with a technique where you do a tumble roll😂
I’m keen on their king single, a review of the swag would be appreciated
Great honest review

Woah, that's the first double cot that looks legit
Be interesting to see how it goes on uneven ground.
A double stretcher with 2 single mattresses to accommodate for the bar in the middle would work! - probably quicker too!
Probably would be quicker but the middle bar is super uncomfortable for couples or even as a single person in the swag as it cuts it in half
Hi Steve. Thanks for the video.

Just noticed. In the long green bag you had two flexi poles you would normally use on a tent window awning. Where were they used? 👍👍🤙
They're used for the storm flaps at the ends of the swag, they hook into the stretcher and tension the storm flaps, instead of pegging them out with guy ropes.
Do you still think this is worth it? Any chance of a follow up video?
I find myself not using it because it’s too heavy and bulky to carry around in the car.
Plus I got a rooftop tent which took over the sleeping duties
@@Australian4x4Adventures Any chance you'd sell it? haha been trying to source one proving tricky
Yeah I’d sell it.
Great stuff Steve.
i’d be set up and be on the fifth beer by the time you finish that , definitely not for me.
Hahaha. It’s definitely not ganna be an every trip sorta thing for me.
I'm still yet to see a review on these that makes it look worth the extra effort, bcfs double expander with the pole is close enough and fits the double swags just as good

Do they ship to us
Hi 👋 m8 new to your channel silly question time I've watched this video 📼 three times & still can't see 👀 where the torsion bars when't ??
.🍻 Gibby💂
Is there any other double stretcher beds you would recommend?
This is the only one without a center pole.
I would still buy it for my long trips. I have a sedan and need to save space.
They do work well.
Put the 400 dollars towards a roof top tent ,keep up the good work Martin Thailand 😎
Haha. I did think about it.
Thanks Steve another good review as always. As you know I use a double stretcher. And I’m an advocate for them, 2 people perfect but now the 3 boys are in and the middle bar is a nightmare.

Yeah that setup time is a killa. I’m hoping as I use it more it becomes much MUCH faster for me. If I can get it to under 5 mins I’ll be happy
Convinced me to buy a caravan
😂. I’ve already got one but still do trips without the van and wanted to be comfortable still.
It’s not perfect but it’s pretty good.
Why dont you just get a camper trailer 😂.
Nifty kit, but that looks to fiddly. Be interesting to see how it goes out in the field, when its pouring with rain everything is wet and muddy.
Definitely for two nights or more, plus looks heavy
Yeah it’s got some weight to it. And only for 2 plus night trips
LOL seen till the end now....
Not a game changer....
No one's wasting that much time to set up a strecher.... for a swag 🤣
Hahaha. It’s not for everyone that’s for sure.
But for the ppl who are happy to take the extra time it’s very comfortable
Yeah-Nah Nah-Yeah, Enjoy mate, too many parts, editing makes it look quick, And it still has lateral movement, Try packing that away Hung over lol😂🍻🍺🍻
Fair call.
I took it away a few weeks back and it’s was easier then I thought it was going to be
Are....it's an American single 🤣
Hahaha
With a 200kg load rating it just scrapes in...... for a few. 🤣
That is such a ripoff of the Darche stretcher mechanism. Although Darche only comes in king single without the bracing.
