The Intamin prefab was one of the greatest gifts to the rollercoaster industry, it's just such a shame that they're so ridiculously expensive to build, we probably would have gotten many more if they didn't cost as much as a freaking B&M giga. El Toro had the same price tag as Leviathan, that's insane to think about. So that on top of the tremendous and costly upkeep that they require, I totally understand why only four of them were ever built, and why I'm confident we'll never see another new one. As long as the experience stays the same, meaning high speeds, crazy ejector airtime and it brings back the buttery smooth ride like when it was brand new, I'm perfectly fine with them doing the RMC re-tracking to El Toro.
If it still hauls, it doesn't matter if it's wood or steel to me. Just keep the thing running and keep it running good.
Hard agree. If this option allows the park to keep the coaster, and keep the ride essentially the same, I really don't care how they choose to repair it.
nah if roughness is a characteristic it better be kept. steel should be smooth, wood is allowed to be rough.
id like for woodies to stay pure wood, but if its simply not financially sustainable to keep T Express operating with true wooden tracks, then by all means put steel track on it so people can continue to enjoy the ride
208 track made Mineblower and Tremors slower so I'm sure this will be the same
Yeah but what does that actually mean though? Value, reason, meaning...let's not just look at things purely from an enjoyment perspective. Rather, why we enjoy something and the connection art and entertainment has with humans. It's important
I can see 208 happen on Balder, at least in the turnarounds. Even post retrack the trains have a noticable shuffle whenever they have to move in a direction other than straight ahead, and Liseberg may see towards a less maintenance heavy solution to have to prevent another major retrack within the next decade.
Do you think SFGAdv will consider GCI's titan track too? It seems like a bit less of a hassle to install than 208 RetraK.
Possibly! On the other hand, Great Adventure currently has a much tighter relationship with RMC with the recency of Jersey Devil and RMC having constructed El Toro. If the proposed Cedar Fair/Six Flags merger goes through, however, that relationship angle of looking at this is probably diminished.
I can see this happening as both Six Flags and Cedar Fair have been experimenting with Titan Track on various coasters. They seem to be a hit with many as well.

At this point with Toro, I wanna see them do a 100% full 208 retracking and keep the original intamin trains assuming they are compatible and everything. I have a feeling the longer and wider Intamin trains will track infinitely better than the timberliners that mine blower uses which IMO shuffle and bounce around more than they should on GGs larger rides. With a full 208 replacement the ride will stay there for decades to come and solve a lot of great adventure's headaches both financially and with PR
I think the wood-to-steel transition can work because the existing wood segments already use steel joints to clip together. Just swap wood for steel
Thank you for making the video. Everland is my home park. I think it's inevitable to convert to steel tracks due to maintenance costs. Korean wood isn't suitable for producing wooden tracks, and importing Intamin OEM tracks is too expensive. However, it's regrettable that they didn't maintain the wooden coaster's characteristics by using tracks classified as wooden, such as Topper-Track, during the overall renovation.
Also, if you happen to come to Korea, there's one thing I'd like to inform you about. Most parks in Korea strictly prohibit unauthorized POV video recording. If you plan to record, you must contact the park in advance.
Is Korean wood unsuitable because it's all new-growth wood?

The track of an Intamin Prefab coaster is made of marine-grade plywood, but the hardwood species used as raw material for this plywood are scarce in Korea.
And since T-Express is Korea's first and only wooden roller coaster, there are no others. Therefore, Korea cannot produce wooden roller coaster tracks domestically due to lack of experience.
Unfortunately I feel like it’s inevitable this happens to Toro. It’s a much better option than IBoxing like some thoosies want to do (the type of thoosie I’ve grown to have a deep burning hatred of), it’ll still be able to use its current trains, the profiling would be the same, and most importantly it would still fart (if it doesn’t fart I don’t want it).
Ultimately I wish Six Flags would just pony up and re-track with pre-fab track but that feels like a total pipe dream at this point. As long as the airtime, forces, trains, and layout are the same, I’ll be ok with it whether it’s a wooden or steel coaster.
For the original prefab (Colossus): there was a discussion and a poll if it would get a retracking or an RMC revamp. The retracking won.
I hope, that colossus stays the way it is as well as El Toro.

Ocean freight is cheap as hell to ship, it just takes a long time. It's not much of a concern, unless it's emergency maintenance.
I think in the next 2-5 years toro will get a full retrack. By who remains to be seen.
In regards to Mineblower's transitions on the retrack, RMC did go back through and fixed them, by taking an angle grinder to where the wood and steel track meet and smoothing out the bump. Yes I saw this with my own eyes as they fixed the final transition they needed to fix (up the main drop), and yes I did return in the evening to ride it, and can indeed say that I did not notice a "bump" when going between the wood and the steel track (also think I was the first person over the angle grinded track on the main drop, if what the ride op said was true).
Of course the wood track on that thing is still awful and still needs fixing.

But I’m excited to see what’s gonna to happen to T Express and I hope it works out well. I’d much rather have Express and Toro with steel tracks than not having them around at all.
my tolerance for roughness is really high, but I definitely appreciate a smooth ride. I'm interested to see how the transitions between the 208 track and prefab track will feel, and how this will affect toro since I probably will be riding it this summer for the first time.
While it wouldn't be the exact same El Toro we know and love, 208 Retrak would be far better than seeing it torn down or entirely re-imagined by RMC. On the bright side, if it becomes a steel coaster you never have to worry about it losing the Golden Ticket Award to Phoenix again!
The 208 ReTraK sections on Tremors and Timber Terror at Silverwood are immensely better than the wooden sections. Tremors is especially interesting, since it has sections of 208 ReTraK, Topper Track, and traditional track. The 208 ReTraK is smoother than the Topper, which is smoother than the traditional. The only downside I can see is the track is ridiculously loud.
Colossus runs amazing after the retrack so i can only hope that El Toro will be retracked the same way. I want to expierence it as a Pre Fab Woodie if I ever get the chance to ride it

I think they could probably leave the lower stress sections as wood since they won't wear out as fast, but like Fred Grubb said with the initial idea to create the steel rails, change out the corners etc. that would need replacing every year, that way you can still have a bit of both
I would love to see you do a video or videos on Silverwood theme park's roller coasters. They have some of the best coasters I've ever ridden! I just rode Stunt Pilot last year and it was by far the most fun I've ever had on a roller coaster. It was also my first RMC single rail coaster
The only wooden coaster I can think of that failed after using the RMC 208 or topper track was the original Georgia Cyclone. It was super rough that I couldn’t take it anymore and was begging for it to get RMC'ed since it used the same crappy PTC trains that were eventually reused for GASM. Good thing it did since it formed a really good 1-2 punch against Goliath.
3:50 This is the first time I heard about Intamin switching from Holzbau Cordes to a different company for subcontracting their wooden coaster work. I always knew that Cordes didn´t do work on T-Express, but they still list the other 3 Prefabs as references for their work, and AFAIK part of the reason Intamin picked Cordes at the time was that they are basically just down the road from Heide Park. Was there any particular reason for the change in subcontractor
Considering that El Toro was nearly as smooth as a steel coaster when it first opened, I wouldn't be too upset if it gets some kind of steel topper track if that's what it comes down to. In that case it would probably be more like how it ran originally. What I would be upset about though is if they changed the layout. El Toro doesn't need an underflip.

I'm very much looking forward to the Hollywood Rip Ride Rocket Problematic video. I finally got to ride the coaster during HHN last year (2023) despite being born and raised in Orlando. I knew the coaster had a reputation for being rough but I was not expecting to be shaken up so badly that the ride triggered an ongoing bout of vertigo. I have a history of vertigo so I'm not blaming Universal here but I've never been knocked around on a coaster hard enough to dislodge my inner ear crystals and trigger my condition to the point that even the Epley maneuver isn't really helping. I want to laugh and say "Still fun tho, would ride again" but in all honesty, yeah, that coaster needs a refurbishment before it really hurts someone.
Keep the woodies! Steel can’t replace that wooden coaster feel. The rattles, and little bumps. Don’t get that with steel. The small imperfections is what makes them so great.
I think it will go with Titan Track, as they have already done it with Predator at Darian Lake

Like u said Ryan they'll definitely consult with T-xpress. Though it seems the OEM route for El-Torro is an enthusiasts idea of a good idea but not six flags'. They know 95% of people won't even notice what changed with El-Torro, as in GP just know it got "re-tracked". They don't know (or care really) if its OEM from intamin or made by RMC. Given six flags hasn't worked with Intamin on an actual notable coaster since around king-da-ka and el torro type days. I doubt it. Especially considering their relationship with RMC. No park operator is closer to RMC than six flags. And great adventure has been doing their own track already. An entire Intamin OEM re-track is what i'd consider an enthusiasts pipe dream. European parks would care if their guests notice it being slightly more rough or they just want it "done right" or like "how it was before", but its six flags here. Coming from someone who likes six flags more than most. GP at the end of the day just want it open as soon as possible (when retracked) and dont care/know where it comes from, so thats what six flags will do.
I didn't care for the transitions on Mine Blower. I think Wolverine Wildcat and Predator had much better transitions (with Titan track) but it's weird to have such smooth sections sprinkled into a wood coaster experience. I think the best case scenario (if they didn't go the OEM route) would be Gravity Group's Precut Engineered Track. It's my understanding that they have not mastered major changes in direction, so things like tighter turns are still done with traditional methods, however they have mastered the use of ipe wood for a much harder top layer making a traditional re-track last much longer. Everything comes at a cost though, so it will be interesting to see how things play out.
I can almost guarantee that if El Toro has another incident, it's gonna get this
I don’t understand why everyone is hating on the 208 track for T Express. I think it should make T Express much better in terms of the future.
The patent for prefab track expired years ago. The gravity group got on board with prefab once the patent expired and they’re now the industry leader for prefab. Prefab isn’t going anywhere.
I find it funny how both of the attempts to reinvent the wooden coaster so far have fallen short with only 4 installations each on one of those being retracked with steel.
I think it is a smart move to not replace the track with the pre fab track, it will just need to be replaced again in around 15 years, that track is far too expensive to have such a short service life, parks are not going to continue to replace the track around every 15 years at nearly the same cost that it was to build it -with all 4 coasters now confirmed to have severe issues with the track that required complete replacement
it is safe to say the pre fab track with the main selling point of being low maintenance over a long lifespan has failed miserably, a 15 year service life is bad by any standards but especially considering the price tag these coasters all came with , B&M prices with Togo quality. Intamin should really take this model out of production for now until they can figure out if they want to discontinue it or work on fixing the issues that are causing the track to deteriorate so quickly
While I want El Toro to be retracked with OEM rails, I will ultimately be okay with 208 track.
I did notice you slip in possible Great Adventure 2025 Intamin coaster with an OEM El Toro retrack. That would be the best scenario.
Woodies are just different. I love RMCs but I love monster woodies too. There’s tons of RMCs, but not many big woodies left. This is a bummer.
In classic Six Flags fashion, I'd bet Great Adventure would do the bare minimum keep El Toro acceptably smooth and only place steel track in high-stress areas in need of attention, IF they ever invested to go that route. The bottom of the turnaround and one or two points in the twister section at the end come to mind.
I personally enjoy Gravity Group precut track (which probably isn't viable in rides this forceful) much more than GCI/RMC steel track as a retracking option, but even when wooden coasters get some steel track, it takes LOTS of retracking and money for a ride to lose its identity. Great update as usual!
Gravity group’s prefabricated track is the Intamin prefabricated track. The only difference is the patent that Intamin had on it expired resulting in other companies to copy within the proper bounds that it’s not an exact duplicate. RMC’s Ibox patent expired. That’s exactly why GCI now has titan track. They can copy close enough but it must remain different at some capacity and that’s why the titan track is tapered while the Ibox is not.
@@user-bl5si5jj3k No it is not, GG's is "pre cut" and more conventional. But it also uses vertical lamination in places, although I can't figure out how much (not curves).
Pre-cut is another term they coined for patented purposes. If gravity group wanted to build an el toro coaster, they would absolutely be able to among the grounds of patent and copyright infringements. It’s not the same, but that doesn’t mean it can’t achieve the same things. It only exists in the current ways only on the basis of supply and demand. They haven’t sold an extreme coaster yet and buyers (regarding the el toro and Intamin situation )certainly have every right to be cautious. Gravity group is really only making smaller prefabs and refurbishing larger ones at places.
Sooner or later Gravity group is going to sell a large and intense coaster and then and only then are we going to see the true capabilities of their style of prefabricated tracks.
Maybe even the voyage.
That’s their el toro. Their biggest they ever made prior to focusing on prefabricated track. Sooner or later holiday world is going to fold with the retracking prices and go prefabrication. That could just be the ace in the hole for gravity group to really make themselves reknown.
@@user-bl5si5jj3k The engineering and legal cost to change Toro that much would be prohibitive. I also doubt patents are a big issue. If GG wants to prove they can do that with their track, they build coasters.
@@spentron1 patents are legal documents that protect you from people copying you. And even once they expire, it’s a little difficult to go down that exact alley without getting a lawsuit for copying closely enough. Would you like to try again?

Wooden roller coasters are US tradition. I'm happy RMC is keeping them alive, even if the track is all steel.
They should go with gravity groups vertical wooden track design. Its kind of insane hose smooth it is
I liked El Toro a lot. 4 perfect elements. My only issue and reason for not having it ranked in my highest tier is that there is some spots that don't offer the same level of thrills. Now in 2006, it was absoultely world class, however, with RMCs and some of the other Intamins it's been shuffled down a bit. I don't have the nostalgia factor since I only rode it for the first time a couple years ago and after many RMCs and Intamins. I would say that if the RMC retrack would allow for some improvements in the other areas with reprofiling to make it a more consistent ride then it would be worth it. Totally understand those with the nostalgia factor saying hell no though, the ride has a crazy cult following.
It is not nostalgia El Toro provides a ride experience that RMC’s cant match.
@@MichaelRei99how would it not be doing that. Eltoro is widely known for having dead spots and if they made them actually do something it would make the ride better
I'm alot more worried about parks choosing to put 208 retrak and titan track on their traditional wooden coasters, since trad Woodies are often much less forceful than steel coasters, and without the texture of the wooden track, they will feel dull and force less. For example, Ghostrider only pulls about 3.1gs, while most extreme steel coasters pull 4-5gs. The prefabs pull just as many gs as a steel coaster, so at worst, a 208 retraked prefab should feel like an rmc.
FYI El Toro is already use rubber wheel like steel coaster from beginning. Which is explain why people praise it being ultra smooth espescially on beginning.
So pre-fab basically just topper before topper ever exist. And indeed people complaining both being a "Real" wooden coaster

I personally think great adventure wouldn’t completely retrack el toro entirely with the steel RMC tracks. Only because I’m pretty sure they know everyone loves el toro for its intense experience and having all steel rails would just make it a little too smooth. But that’s just my opinion. Also no fart sound would ruin the ride overall.
Simply put: I think Intamin searched for the limit of what a wooden coaster can be and do. And found it. Yes, in original form it rips. But it seems at least for El Toro that it comes at great cost as it literally rips itself apart. I'm not SO much of a purist (and I am a purist) that I want it all original at the cost of constant downtime, Injury potential, and a park sinking new-ride budget into constant upkeep). That's not a fair trade off.

Honestly, as good as the rides are, the prefab track is a failure as being a good alternative to traditional wood and steel. In terms of maintenance, its the worst of both worlds. The track pieces don't last nearly as long as steel but still require a large expense to replace including manufacturing and the use of heavy machinery to put them into place. Titan track, RMC 208 and Gravity Groups precut all seem to be preferable options.
It does seem like 208 Retrak is the sensible option for El Toro all things considered.
As much as I like how Intamin does big projects, well .... sometimes they're too ambitious as all the prefabs have had issues.
I would love to see El Toro converted into an RMC hybrid coaster. The ride already has a super fun layout with S tier airtime so it just needs the steel track. Financially it makes the most sense and when El Toro was brand new it was as smooth as a steel coaster anyway.
hell no, rmc is for bad wooden coasters that are incredibly rough. El Toro is an elite ride that doesn't need to get changed. Think about it like this, why would you want a 9/10 to go to an 8-10 / 10, when you can have a 2/10 go to an 8-10 / 10? There is even a possibility that the new el toro might be worse than the previous version. RMC is for bad wooden coasters, not elite ones

It's time it's been almost 20 years which is pretty much the life cycle. ElToro will transition to hybrid makes too much business sense. All these 2000s intamin coasters are getting renovated. Makes you think.
The Intamin prefabs were what RMC designed and built. The reason why there were only 4 Intamin prefabs was because RMC started to make their own coasters rather than being a reliance on Intamin!

thats one thing i hate about RMC and ill never get over, is theyre pretty much a history killer.
its cool the innovations theyve done, and their rides are buttery. but i wish theyd stick to making their own from scratch and not altering others designs. if a wooden coaster isnt trying to shake my joints to dust, i dont want it. i come from Predator i feel nobody elses wooden sorrow.

Honestly, I'd rather they use the new GCI hybrid track that was put into sections of Predator at Darien Lake. That track is AMAZING. It is so nice and somehow still delivers a wooden feel even though they're steel. It's the best wooden track replacement I've ever seen and I just want them to do the entire predator coaster with it.
Just pay up and order new track… it’s not a steel coaster you know there’s regular maintenance required! Enjoy a louder coaster!

If it has to be done so El toro isn't removed, then absolutely. If not, hell no!
It might be cost cutting measures or not, but in Europe they're looking after Colossus and Balder with more care than they are anywhere else. If I'm wrong about that: I welcome RMC overlords to take over.

The prefabs were definitely more reliable than the normal wooden coasters as they were built and designed like a steel coaster. This brought a much smoother and more comfortable experience and it can feature more extreme drops and hills. It sure seemed like such a crazy big project to make because it's a mix of both the work of a steel and wood coaster. They had to make the entire support system as a wooden coaster but designe the track and transport it like a steel coaster.
cable lift hill... more reliable than a wooden coaster? Idk about that one. I can't name many times I went to a park and their... wooden coaster is closed.
@@Sonic-gy7kq I don't know how reliable cable lift hills are but when I mean reliability, I mainly mean the maintenance and construction and design. Steel coasters overall are more reliable than wooden coasters as they do most things better. I have not seen any more steel coasters closed on average than wooden coasters.
FYI the part of magic for prefab for being smooth is because they use rubber wheel.

I think you got it on the head by mentioning the trains. If you switch up the tracks, then oh well, but changing the trains will alter the ride experience. I say get the steel track but keep the original trains

I think the the 208 track from RMC would be a much better alternative since it would be cheaper for great adventure vs having to buy overseas which would be expensive to ship here in the state but we shall see what they decided

It's Intamin, at best they undersells at reliability. At worst they just straight up giving middle finger about replacement part.

The only time you can feel El Toro became real "wooden coaster" when the rail already so beaten up that rubber wheel won't help anything at all.

Now you know why Voyager is way insanely longer than El Toro despite having 20 ft shorter height. Heck even with all those height El Toro can valley on cold morning
