  • May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS) is a vascular condition that can increase your risk of blood clots in the leg (deep vein thrombosis or DVT). While it may be present in more than 20% of the population, it is rarely considered in the diagnosis of DVT, particularly in patients with other risk factors.
Learn what you need to know about MTS from Dr. Suresh Vedantham, Professor of Radiology & Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine and NBCA Medical and Scientific Advisory Board Member; and Sarah Lemire, Lifestyle Reporter for TODAY.com and MTS patient. Together, they will answer questions like, “What is it? How is it diagnosed? What treatments are available? If you have it, how do you protect yourself from blood clots?”

Very good likelihood I have MTS. Postponed venogram, balloon, possible stent due to nickel allergy. The dedicated venous stents are mostly if not all, composed of 55% nickel and 45% titanium, nitinol self expanding.
I have two autoimmune diseases, type 1 diabetes and hashimotos, both TH1 dominant. My fear is once I have a foreign allergan implanted in my body that I might have systemic reaction. The very last drug a type 1 diabetic wants to be on for life are corticosteroids.
I have one on one visit with vascular surgeon in a month to discuss options.
My question is - are there other stents available for iliac vein (diameter size/length) stenting, and, have you installed nitinol stents in patients who have tested positive for nickel allergy, and what were the outcomes?
Thank you in advance, great discussion.

I would love to hear about how Sarahs stent recovery and maintenance or any issues? What did stent recovery feel like, does she have discomfort from the stent like so many do etc.
