Gold and Platinum SINGLES aren't accomplishments. In this day and age how hard is it to get one million downloads for one song? Just about every video on VEVO has one million views or more so the transition to digital downloads doesn't look like that daunting of a task. Getting a million or more to download one song pales in comparison to getting that same amount to download one album. With Gold and Platinum now applicable to singles it lowers the standards of what it takes to be successful. Instead of getting people interested enough to pay attention for one hour all an artist has to do is get them to pay attention for a few minutes and he/she gets a plaque delivered to his/her house.
