    Hi, my ps3 slim has a similar problem where it turns on but there is no display output. Also the controllers work absolutely fine and are able to sync to the console. There is no video output on both AV and HDMI ports. Please help

    • @idreestech
      @idreestech  Месяц назад +1

      It’s good to hear your controllers are syncing since that confirms the system is booting. Here's a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot the no-video output issue on both AV and HDMI:
      1. Reset Video Output Settings
      Sometimes the PS3 outputs a resolution your TV/monitor doesn’t support. To reset:
      Turn off the PS3 completely (solid red light).
      Hold down the Power button:
      Keep holding after the 1st beep (Power On).
      Release after the 2nd beep (about 5-10 seconds).
      The PS3 resets its video output to standard definition.
      Connect using both AV and HDMI (to ensure you test both outputs).
      2. Test HDMI/AV Cables and Ports
      Use a working HDMI cable on a known good TV.
      If still no display, test with the AV cable (red, white, yellow wires).
      Ensure ports on the TV and PS3 are not damaged.
      Test another HDMI input on your TV or a different monitor.
      3. Boot into Safe Mode
      Safe Mode can bypass video configuration issues:
      Turn off the PS3 (solid red light).
      Press and hold the Power button:
      1st beep: Power On.
      2nd beep: Power Off (keep holding).
      Release the button after you hear two quick beeps.
      Safe Mode menu should appear.
      If successful, choose Restore Default Settings or Rebuild Database.
      If Safe Mode doesn’t appear, it’s likely a hardware problem.
      4. Check the Hard Drive
      A failing HDD can cause display issues. To test:
      Power off the console and remove the hard drive.
      Turn on the PS3 without the hard drive installed.
      If you see a prompt asking for the storage device, the HDD could be faulty.
      Replace or reformat the hard drive.
      5. Internal Hardware Issue: RSX (Graphics Chip)
      If the above fails, the issue may be with the RSX (GPU):
      Symptoms: System boots, no display output, controllers work.
      Cause: RSX chip’s solder joints may have cracked or weakened over time.
      Possible Fixes:
      Reflow the RSX: Temporarily fixes solder cracks using controlled heat.
      Reballing (Permanent Fix): Replace old solder balls under the RSX with new ones.
      Note: These are advanced repairs. If you’re not confident, consider taking it to a professional.
      Next Steps
      Start with the reset video settings and Safe Mode attempts.
      If no success, test the HDD.
      If still no display, it’s most likely the RSX chip, and a reflow/reballing is needed.
      Let me know how it goes, and I’ll help you further! 👍

      @@idreestech Hi, I have tried all the above mentioned fixes but none of them work. When I boot it into safe mode there is still no display . However if I boot it into safe mode and try turning the PlayStation off I hear 3 quick beeps. I've also tried removing the HDD but that doesn't not work.
      I've seen a youtube video on how someone fixed a problem similar to this by adding coins between the rsx chip and the heatsink. The uploader stated that this was done to add pressure onto the joints which has loosen because of overheating. Do you recommend trying this?

    my PS3 has similar problem (CECHK01), tried to delid the CPU but in the processes scratched some traces but what is strange is that all of the traces that seemed broken have continuity on the chip surface. What is happening now is if i turn it on and off enough times i can get to the xmb, but after playing for about 5 minutes it crashes and it returns to displaying no image and the green light is on (sometimes it displays images but artifacts start showing).

    • @idreestech
      @idreestech  2 дня назад +1

      @yurih9599 From what you've described, the issue is likely a combination of damage caused during delidding and potential thermal instability. Here's a breakdown of possible causes and steps to address them:
      Even if the traces have continuity, they might have micro-damage or partial disconnections that cause intermittent issues.
      This points to an unstable GPU or CPU and RAMs connection, possibly due to solder joint damage or thermal cycling stress.
      Use a microscope to check the scratched traces for any visible damage or breaks.
      Reinforce scratched traces with a thin layer of solder or conductive material.
      Replace thermal pads if worn out. And cover them with a thin layer of UV mask ink.
      Let me know how it goes, and feel free to ask for more detailed guidance! 😊

    • @yurih9599
      @yurih9599 2 дня назад +1

      @idreestech Thank you for your response! So what i need to do is cover all exposed traces with solder and change the thermal pads? The pads i think only one got damaged and it's a small one, as for the traces i checked all of the damaged ones with a microscope and multimiter, only one seemed to be in really bad shape but still showed continuity (it exposed both the trace and damaged the mask next to it, maybe this is causing a short?).
      Edit: Forgot to add that on Webman the CPU temperature was showing 0° and RSX 14° and it would not change even when playing. Then when i tried turning it on again the temperature of both the CPU and RSX were above 70° on the PKGI store (The thermal paste is MX4 and was freshly applied).

    • @idreestech
      @idreestech  2 дня назад +1

      Thank you for the update! Your description provides key clues to address the issue further. Let’s refine the steps based on what you've observed:
      An exposed trace or damaged solder mask near it could cause intermittent shorts, especially if conductive debris or improper solder application is present.
      The initial 0°C for the CPU and 14°C for the RSX indicate a possible issue with the temperature sensors. This could result from damaged traces, poor connections, or a failing syscon IC.
      Temperatures above 70°C shortly after boot suggest poor heat transfer or excessive heat generation.
      Use isopropyl alcohol (99% if possible) to clean the exposed trace and surrounding area.
      Apply UV solder mask or clear nail polish to insulate the trace after ensuring continuity.
      Ensure no solder bridges exist near the damaged area.
      Even if only one pad is damaged, use pads with the correct thickness and thermal conductivity (6 W/mK or higher recommended).
      If the CPU and RSX sensors are giving incorrect readings, inspect the syscon circuit and any related traces for damage.
      Ensure continuity to the syscon IC from the temperature sensor pins on the CPU/RSX.
      Double-check the alignment of the heatsink and the IHS. A small gap can cause significant temperature spikes.
      Ensure the fan is functioning properly and running at appropriate speeds (you can adjust fan speed using Webman).
      Reassemble the PS3 and monitor the temperatures using Webman. If the readings normalize and the console stays on longer, the repairs were successful.
      If the issue persists, consider reflowing or reballing the CPU and RSX as a last resort.
      Let me know how these steps work out! 😊

      @yurih9599 2 дня назад +1

      @@idreestech I think the syscon IC may be fine. Before i got the GLOD i was having YLOD(errors 3003 and 1002) that went away after applying thermal paste on the CPU die, after that it worked just fine, but after turning off and testing on my TV it started doing what i told you before(GLOD, artifacts).
      Tomorrow i'll try your tips and send you a feedback, but i don't know how to check the syscon and CPU/RSX readings because i have a very basic knowledge on circuit boards. Also if it gets confusing to what really happened to my ps3 i made a post on PSX Place, it is on the "Help and Support" tab on PS3 discussion, the post title is "HELP!!! Is my PS3 dead?" and my username is Jonas762. Once again many thanks!

      @yurih9599 День назад +1

      @@idreestech My PS3 is ALIVE AGAIN!!! I put some solder on the traces and voilà, works just fine now. I just need to test some more but temps on webman are very stable at 60º on both rsx and the cpu when playing (maybe i could get it lower if a applied new thermal paste, but i don't have it right now). I can't even express how thankful i'm for your tips, really, thank you!!!
      One last thing i noticed is the kapton tape i was putting on the chip surface was impeding the console to display image somehow (maybe it was shorting the traces?), so now i just let the traces be exposed because i don't have neither clear nail polish or solder mask.

    • @idreestech
      @idreestech  Месяц назад +1

      @davedm6345 It sounds like there might be an issue with the CPU's solder joints, possibly cold solder or a loose connection. Applying pressure may temporarily reconnect the joints. A reflow or reballing of the CPU could help resolve the issue. If you're not familiar with these techniques, I recommend seeking assistance from a professional repair technician. How to fix PS3 HDMI flickering and blanking problem.3004 A model.

    • @idreestech
      @idreestech  4 месяца назад +1

      The HDMI flickering and blanking issue on a PS3 (3004A model) can be caused by a few different factors, ranging from HDMI cable issues to hardware problems.
      The cable might be faulty, so try using a different one.
      Inspect the HDMI port on both the TV and PS3 for any debris or damage. Sometimes dust or a loose connection can cause flickering.
      Turn off your PS3, then hold the power button until you hear a second beep. This will reset the display settings, which might fix any resolution or compatibility issues.
      After resetting, manually set the resolution to match your TV's native resolution (e.g., 1080p or 720p). Sometimes auto-detection can cause flickering if there’s a mismatch.
      Try connecting the PS3 to a different HDMI port on the TV. Some TV ports may have different processing capabilities that can affect signal stability.
      Connect your PS3 to a different TV or monitor to see if the problem persists. This can help you identify whether the issue is with the PS3 or the TV.
      In rare cases, the HDMI flickering can be caused by a faulty HDMI IC on the PS3 motherboard. If none of the above steps work, it could be a hardware issue that might require replacing the HDMI IC chip or inspecting the GPU for possible damage.
      If the problem continues after trying these fixes, the issue might be hardware-related, and further diagnosis or repair may be required.

    Why is ps3 slim so unreliable ?

    • @idreestech
      @idreestech  15 дней назад +1

      @Aleksa.09 The PS3 Slim has its strengths, but like any piece of technology, it can develop issues over time. Here's why it might be considered unreliable by some:
      Thermal Management:
      While improved over the PS3 Fat, the Slim's cooling system can still struggle with prolonged use or in environments with poor ventilation. Overheating can lead to hardware failures.
      RSX and CELL Processors:
      These powerful chips generate significant heat. Poor solder quality (lead-free solder) can lead to cracks or cold joints, causing failures like the Green Light of Death (GLOD).
      Aging Components:
      As the consoles age, components like capacitors, resistors, and the thermal paste degrade, leading to various faults.
      Blu-ray Drive and HDD Failures:
      The Blu-ray drive and hard drive are mechanical parts prone to wear and tear over time, causing read/write issues or game crashes.
      Power Supply Issues:
      PS3 Slim models can face power supply failures due to component aging or sudden power surges.
      Firmware Updates:
      Some firmware updates introduced by Sony in the past have caused compatibility or stability issues, making older hardware more prone to crashes.
      To make your PS3 Slim more reliable:
      Regularly clean it to prevent dust buildup.
      Replace thermal paste and pads every few years.
      Use high-quality replacement parts when needed.
      Ensure proper ventilation and avoid prolonged gaming sessions in hot environments.
      The PS3 Slim remains a solid console when maintained well, and it continues to have a dedicated fan base!

      Hi @xpaydaymoney8552! Thank you for your comment and the idea for a video. The "No Red Light of Death" issue is somewhat less documented because it's a rarer problem compared to other common PS3 failures.
      Here are some initial steps you can take to troubleshoot and possibly fix your CECH-2001A Slim model:
      Check the Power Supply Unit (PSU):
      Remove the PSU and check for any visible damage (e.g., burn marks, swollen capacitors).
      Test the PSU with a multimeter to ensure it’s outputting the correct voltages.
      If it’s faulty, replace it with a compatible PSU.
      Inspect the Motherboard:
      Look for damaged components like capacitors or resistors near the power circuit.
      Use a multimeter to check for shorts around the power ICs and main rails.
      Examine the Power Button Circuit:
      Check the continuity of the power button and its connection to the motherboard.
      Test for Standby Voltage:
      Ensure the 3.3V standby voltage is present. Without this, the console won’t enter standby mode.
      Reflow Solder Joints (if needed):
      If you suspect poor soldering or micro-cracks, you may need to reflow specific areas on the motherboard, focusing on power-related ICs.
      Replace the Power Management IC (if applicable):
      In some cases, the power management IC may fail and need replacing.
      I’ll consider making a detailed video on this topic to help others in similar situations. Meanwhile, if you need detailed guidance on any of the steps above, let me know! 😊
