Unless the customer states no inspection, I at minimum check the oil level. Though even if they state no inspection, I’ll still document any illuminated MILs or caution messages. Yeah, it’s not my car, not my problem, but it’s always an opportunity to make more money as flat rate or at minimum make them aware of the issues. Lately more of the latter where they just acknowledge the deficiencies and don’t address them on-site. Seen so many people drive off with separated control arm bushings, brakes at minimum spec, rotors below discard spec, and more. I get it, vehicles aren’t cheap to maintain, but it amazes me how many folks will ignore even something as simple as an OCI (or three).
Back in the good ole days the gas station attendant would pump your gas, clean your windshield and check your oil…and put oil in it and change your wipers and put air in your tires and…
I have watched a lot of your videos and you are always arguing with the lady, be nicer to her ! Happy Holidays and keep up the great work. And be nicer to each other ! :)
Automotive life in the US has become third world. I used to buy a new Toyota and just worry about oil. No more. I resent being forced to take the Latin American approach of tending every detail about cars. I still enjoy junkyard tourism, but now it's a necessity.
It’s our job to inform the customers of what we find on their cars. Some think we are just trying to rip them off, others appreciate the heads up.

Smart to protect yourself and your customer! Maybe you will have a customer for life to return over and over for needed services!
