    fair analysis.
i, myself, carry 4 distros on my ventoy USB i find worth installing, each best in their own league:
    - Mint for user-friendliness,
    - MX for stability and comfort,
    - antiX for reviving antic hardware (hence the name i guess)
    - and EnOS for sane Arch experience.

Mint XFCE4 on all my machines. The first distro that just had my hardware working and no issues with the package manager out of the box. Also update kernel so easy without a hassle. I am considering moving to LMDE just for the sheer amount of available tested packages.

Yeah. You can't really go wrong with Linux Mint. They have nailed it

MX 23.2 Xfce is my daily driver. Only minus is that it has no in built upgrade tool. When a new version comes out you have to install it again. But it installs really quick. In 2 minutes on my computer. The dark theme is okay, but I prefer Arc dark with Papirus dark icons. I disabled Dock like plugin and use window buttons because you can't drag and drop on Dock like plugin.

Good review, and agree with your summary, although I would not recommend Arch distros and would certainly include kubuntu as a 5* recommended

I use Debian now as it is just stable. I am using 12. I don't care about latest version of X. I don't really care about the latest kernel and it works. Most third party applications support debian usually through a downloadable deb and if that doesn't work I can always use a flatpak to install.

How many times do you need to repeat "Top 25 according to distrowatch" in the comments? can't people just listen to the video? you made it very clear at the beginning that's what you were doing. The number of people saying why not distro X (their favourite distro?) amazes me.

I've used every distro on your list and multible versions of each with the exceptions of FreeBSD and Mageia. The top 5 are:
    1) Zorin OS
    2) Linux Mint
    3) Manjaro KDE
    4. Fedora
    5) Ubuntu
In that order. Things like Elementary shouldn't even be to 100. The only reason MX is even on the list on distrowatch is because of a handful of vocal youtubers. Its not very good.

Arch and Gentoo really don't really don't make it? I guess most that wanna use Arch just use Manjaro and the rest probably shuddering at the thought of building from a stage2 tarball. Nice to see FreeBSD in there even if not linux.
Miss the olds days when Slackware and FreeBSD where the Arch's and Gentoo's of the day.

Is that Debian 11 instead of Debian 12? I would expect to see Debian 12, because he’s a Debian user himself and I would expect a Debian user to use the latest version, but if I’m not mistaken he’s showing us Debian 11.

CachyOS is a lot better than it was little while ago, it's very good, Nvidia next driver should fix the only issue it has. I have had many bad experiences with Manjaro, it's not stable at all. Latest Kubuntu 24.04 has driver issues. Fedora 40 KDE is really good for new user after the RPM Fusion upgrades. I can't wait the upcoming Pop_OS! Endeavour OS is way too high in Distrowatch list. Mint and MX are not for my design taste.

Never understood why people take distro watch seriously. I've downloaded the same iso for an os over 5 times because of errors and other issues. Does that mean it Registers once? On distro watch mint and others are top distros while in reality I know 3 Linux mint users and 100+ Ubuntu users 🤔

    • @EverydayLinuxUser
      @EverydayLinuxUser  2 месяца назад

Agreed it is only an indicator and not a scientific chart. If a new user finds distrowatch they are more likely to go for one of the top 10 and boost the scores so it is slightly flawed that way.
Also people know of Ubuntu without needing to go to distrowatch. They probably go straight to the site.

Too quick of an overview. You don't explain what differentiates each distro. Especially Solus. The small repos are definitely something people need to be aware of going into it, as well as it being (still currently) based on Intels clear Linux and is therefore blazing fast. Lots of performance tweaks which are great. The bespoke package format is a downside but it's not terribly hard to package things for yourself that are not in the repo.

Slackware wad the best Linux distro when I was new to Linux. It has always been my favorite because it's simple and doesn't get in my way or do anything I don't want it to.

  • @andrabtedja

The problem is you are not categorized the distro. Not for daily use? Or need to learn for daily use?
For new user in Linux, I will recommend KDE Neon from openSUSE and NixOS, but these two distro are better and more stable than KDE Neon if the user know how to configure it.
It's not about suitable or not for daily use, I agree if Kali is not for daily use. But NixOS and openSUSE are powerful for daily use, but steeper learning curve. Cmiiw
