the whole point of it is to provide hope and motivation for people. It's supposed to reinforce the idea that you can proactively better your life. What is your proposal? Life sucks and there's no hope so lets give up and die?
yes you are absolutely wrong
This is 14 years ago, now in 2023 how I wish to go back to 2009
I think that the American Dream is partially a concept constructed upon unrealistic optimism for a nation. To people of developing countries, America may seem like another world completly. While those living in the United States do enjoy more freedoms than a large portion of the globe, there are injustices and corruption nonetheless. We'd like to think that there is equal opportunity for everyone, but this injustice proves that there isn't.
injustice like?
Especially with politicians working every single day to take said rights away from you, and misinformation to the average people basically brainwashing them

@@leeawari2398 I think you're a bit late.
its different for people depending on their economic/cultural background/social status. those things form your values. some peoples 'american dream' is to be alpha at whatever they do. some just want a family that will love them.
A great explanation of the goals and motivation the American dream provides.
As George Carlin once said "It's called the American dream because you have to be asleep to believe it."
DANK MEMER niiiiicce
Is this the same George Carlin who grew up in an American dream house hold during the period of great America economic growth?
Inspirational
simple.... the american dream for me... is a good job... a home familly... great house....great car... a women to love...children... and no problem.... like a dream -_-
That is the dream I think many people American dream tend to be people on RUclips or rapper and when they don’t make it at that they look at themselves like they a failure but not everyone entertainer their are other jobs in this life
For people born in this country, the American dream is a myth. Your typical monolingual American takes everything for granted, self absorbed and does not appreciate anything. Even a homeless person most times a junkie has a better life than someone in another country, trying to achieve it. I came to the US with nothing, did not know the language but I did something about it. Studied, served in the military, worked hard and the fruit of all my sacrifice:
1. Financially stability for life.
2. I have everything I need and items I wanted.
3. Education.
4. Home ownership.
5. Future generations will have the same opportunity as I did, in this country.
Understanding the value of hard work and money isn't something most American don't truly understand and most take it for granted, expecting a hand out or a safety net. For anyone to say, the American dream is dead... I am living it and smiling EVERY day. You are the problem. This whole racism this and that... the man has never ever held me down. Soy Latino!
offcourse you're nonchalant To American problems/history, you have no connection to it. Keep that energy for your own country..
Who is watching it for school ?
Can you make a new one and compare it to this one?
The American dream is to be successful and wealthy, the dreamer is the worker.
12 years later and its the same wow
No matter where you come from, I personally know that anything can be achieved. Sometimes when someone comes from a harder background they want to be succesful more than the average middle class person. There are thousands of highly succesful people (actors, musicians, writers...) who have come from poverty. your life is what you make of it.
My American 🇺🇸 Dream is for people to come together. Amen 🙏 1/7/21.
The ORIGINAL American dream, was to be in a nation where one was free to practice their faith without persecution or force. And to be able to reap the harvest of hard work....
11 years ago?? Wow
Who is watching this after covid pandemic 😂
It's called the American Dream because you must be a sleep it ti happen.
The guy who said was a product of the American dream. Ironic is it not.
As well as one's ability to determine what is for them and what's not and the lvl of live according to that and not have "someone else" force their "will" (values, rules, lvl of dignity, lvl of respect, lvl and quality of good/s, status or "place"), on them.
american dream for me it was when you can rent a plane with fuel for 20$ an hour, and that was in 1997. now it s 150$ !!!!
How much is it now?

quoting the Comedian from Watchmen, "What happened to the American dream?!...IT CAME TRUE...you're looking at it..."
i thought americans had finally woken up, apparently they are still dreaming, fast asleep.
10 years later is american dream still alive nowadays?
In fact if you look at the Forbes 400 list, many (probably more than half) grew up very poor and quite a few of them never even received a high school or college degree. Stanley Ho for instance. His father abandoned him after loosing all of his money in the stock market. his older brothers commited suicide. It was him and his mother living in poverty. Now he's worth over 6 billion.
The real problem boils down to human greed. You can see it right here 1:01
When is enough, enough?
i dont know?

American Dream now: "have money"
Bet you want more
My American dream is to someday settle in the states
No one wants to live in poverty. I have seen so much poverty in this world that to flaunt an assumption called the American Dream is arrogant. People come to this country believing that they will be rich and successful, but only a hand full of those people attain that reality. Most work menial jobs cleaning up for Americans, but we are ignorant to those individuals and their hardships. The only people who attain the American Dream are those who already have power, privilege, and resources.
USA supports any dream and career, it's why everyone goes there
I don't get this
me neither
Yo la TES1
There are many Stanley Ho's in this country. You don't have to be a billionaire to be "succesful." There are many children who decide that just because their parents left them or didn't go to college they don't have to follow in the same footsteps. Besides, my point is that you can make anything out of nothing, only if you really want to.
Why don't you do stuff on the British dream

“The american dream is alive” she spelt lie wrong
However, against a violent backdrop of burdensome beauracies, elitistisms, exclusions, and lies perpetrated on masses, the "american dream" or happiness and prosperity can be muted or denied for any person.
Its like a catch 22 in a sense, "take responsibility for your own life and happiness, yet ask someone else for something you want/need", which they may or may not want to acknowledge or grant, pfft coercion
Nice
The American Dream is at it's purest, is the right to get hammered and ride around in a golf cart down the freeway with an expensive escort you just drugged at a nightclub. Try doing that in Malaysia, while eating Chik-Fil-A.
why are they not wearing masks?
2009 mate
How many Stanley Ho's are there in this country? How many poor people want to be Stanley Ho in this country?
Hellooooooo
@junkers1337 it was great back than and its great now. and even before WW2 and WW1 immigrants from Asia and europe were flooding into the nation. even now we are ranked one of the best places to live.
Fair enough. Just wonder if your ever live abroad and for how many years. In my opinion, there's no way to have a real perspective about the US society without a context.
same bro i wish everyone would think like this
Its depends on the lvl of "burdens" upon each person's heart and mind and their perceptions.
By "burdened" I mean things like social and economic politics -in favor of or against,
lvl of " personal dependence"
control of resources -or lack of,
lvl of education -or lack of,
lvl of self motivation, focus, vision, self identity (ex manhood, womenhood) -or lack of,
upbringing, emotional supports and types of influences vs lies and deceptions
I cannot believe that you would judge people so harshly, based on a jilted view. You assume that people in the slums cannot dream or envision a brighter future. When you lose everything will you still believe in the American Dream, or will you assume that you have not reached your American Dream at 50 or 60 years old. Ask those individuals, if they believe in the American Dream or Nightmare, and why they cannot afford food, clothing, or a good life.
it's so strange
last summer i was in US and own in bryant park with my friends i've started to ask "what's for you the american dream ?" the answeres were interesting
i kept asking all around the usa
see yaaa
and let me give special emphasis on the use of "force", it isnt always someone forcing "unhappiness, unfulfilled wants, mental anguish, or hurt" on people, its poverty.
So "others" -(the government, politicians, corporations, entertainers, capitalism, god, white people, pretty women, handsome men, other people's favoritisms and preferences, the groups of popular people) arent responsible or liable for anyone else's "american dream", happines, well being, and prosperity, each person is.
ok
The american dream was a nightmare to begin with. Free your mind.

@nomad824 haha good one man, tell that to the people who make it their life ambition to live in huge houses and sit on bags of money. Shit, even the rappers who come from the most deprived parts of the country make that their ambition, and then proudly proclaim that they are the american dream. Face it, the american dream IS about huge houses and bags of money, if you don't have it then don't try and redefine it.
I dont think anyone is actually competing for survival here in america. The indigent are taken care of, the rest of us pay their bills for them if they cant work. Social security, medicare, food stamps, housing vouchers, disability. No , the only competition is for a higher standard of living. Stop being dramatic, it discredits you and makes you appear overly emotional and just plain silly.
It’s a dream it will not happen stop believing
American haven’t moved forward from 10 years ago. This sucks

@Born2Rock1987 Never has been and never will be. Because for every 1 honorable, charitable, trustworthy person, there are 10 lying, cheating, greedy people.
There is still a disproportionate amount of African Americans, Asian Americans, and Native Americans living in poverty. Most of these people never achieve the opportunities to fulfill their American Dreams. The reason why these people are poor is because they come from poverty. The reason why most White Americans are rich is because they come from power and privilege. I am not judging, but I can see the reality and not the illusions.
Great content. Now, let us have the United Nations dictate new law to us. Thanks for enforcing pessimism and the effort of replacing our values.
So negative… lol

americans in a nutshell
i like this video because it is showing real people who have fallen victim to the ideals society has pushed on us so we further contribute to capitalism.
Unfortunately, some politicians turned its back on the American Dream like kicking out successful international students. I was an international student in Nee York, but after all the regulations and restrictions put by the Trump Administration, I decided to go to Canada for the American Dream. There is no doubt that this country is great and awesome with its values and morals of freedom, opportunity, and justice for all. The unfortunate part is some politicians made life miserable for a lot of people based on bad decisions from them. They handled the Covid crisis much worse than a lot of other countries. Still, America was, is, and will always be a great country. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸❤️
True that, everything sucks and there's no way to improve your life or be successful if you live in america. Thanks. I could have wasted years of my life trying to be successful.
the american dream is still there, my uncle who started off as a secretary is now a big figure for an insurance company. ontop of that my aunty who was struggling with 3 kids started a very good small buisness. also my other uncle started his own health clinic in arizona. my other uncle was chosen among 150 students for a scholarship to a university. yah i got a lot of uncles. no lie. its still there if you want to get it. the question is whether you want it that much or not

anyway, i think that the american dream is still alive ;)
