Hello Peter, 3 questions and 2 comments: 1- What is the maximum amperage for each DC output jacks? 2- What is the maximum input amperage to power the ASIAIR PRO ? Comment 1- It would be nice if you could update your video with information related to amperage on the electrical DC jacks. Thank you, I really appreciative your videos great job and great man. Thank you again.
Probably I wouldn't get a straight answer for obvious reasons but, anyway, is it secure to buy directly from ZWO the ASIAir Pro? You know, the offers are really limited (and usually back-ordering), at least here in the USA...
Very informative video for the basics of the new ASI Air Pro. Since I have already some experience with the basic functions, I would whish to learn more about the more special functions such as the meridian flip settings etc. I can't find any video on RUclips about this subject with the ASI Air Pro. CS and thank you for this video.
I have a Fork Mount, I cannot put it in Polar position with the main imaging camera on is there any work arounds for Polar alignment can i use the guide camera or something?
Another tutorial shows imaging in LIVE mode instead of Autorun. Using Live I had trouble finding where to select the number of frames (Repeat). When I recovered my 100 frames for DSS, they all appeared Black, and DSS discarded all of them. My USB saved both a JPEG and a FIT file for each photo (why?). The JPEG was tiny but showed stars. Someone said I didn't stretch the histogram. Just saying that isn't very helpful when there is no manual for the PRO. Don't know if those photos are junk or not.
Peter...I am confused...You state you plug12 volt power adapter into the ASIair Pro...and then you say you should power the ASIair Pro with the 5.5 cable...after already stating you should use the 12 Volt adapter...Help and yes I am a Newbie Thank you Possibly you are stating That you should use the 5.5. cable because you have the old version...and I have the New Version ASIair Pro...and I should use the 12 v 2amp adapter...I will use the 12-volt 2amp adapter to be on the safe side...I do have the 5.5 cable but I will not use this cable unless I hear differently from you Thank you again for all that you do...
Ok I have a question can I use the asiair to plate solve and have it show me in stellarium were I'm pointing in the sky I have a star adventure and I can do this with apt but didn't know if the asiair could do this
so do people just hook up a 4TB drive to there scope or do they or can it in real time transfer the photos to your laptop? because you mention that you just have the sdstick and sd card. So with big files using a 52.meg camera whats the right way or better way to do this? Thank you.
I’ve found the 5G network will be more stable allowing slightly more distance if one turns off cell network if you are using a cell/Wifi capable device. If one’s iPad is busy moving images, it’s nice if the device is not checking email, checking notifications etc. I also do not use 0.01s bias times. The editor pad will accept faster times here so e.g. for my zwo 178mc I use 40 microsecond bias times and the AsiAir will accept that.
I'm going to be running my astrogear from my backyard. DO I still need a portable power station, or can I just run an extension cord with say a surge protector that allows for multiple outlets to plug into? And if that is okay, can you get a cable for the ASIAIR Pro so I can connect to a normal outlet? I should also note that I'll be running a rig for deep astrophotography. Specifically, the Orion 8 inch newtonian reflector. So I'm hoping something like this could work.
Portable power stations can still be really handy as they most of the time already have the correct connections (cigarette lighter ports etc) to attach all your powered devices.
astronomy-imaging-camera.com/product/acdc-adapter-12v-5a-for-cooled-cameras This is what you need to connect directly to standard 120V house power. Of course if you live in a country with 230V, then you will need the typical adapter.
Thanks for this Peter.Really good info.Just one comment though. When you change filters there is always a slight offset in focus no matter even if the filters are the same make.So this would mean you would have to focus between each filter is there a pause button so that can be done if you haven't got autofocus. Also it's a real shame the ASIAir will not be available till late April
When I get to the step shown at 6:04 (all lights on asi air correct, connected to Asi air ok, app downloaded and launched I do not get to the screen shown at 6:05 but a screen that says New Firm Ware detected current version 0.01 Latest version 6.76. Then when I click "update now" it says "Update Failed". Simultaneously it diconnected from the AsiAir and re-connected tomy internet wifi (presumably so it can get the download). Probably I have to do everything in some very special sequence - will try various combinations.
By the way, I’m sure you addressed it but I am considering plugging it into my pocket power box and running DC from an outlet. It seems to be the same connections. That’ll save my battery for my DSLR secondary rig.
Yes, in my experience the ASIAir Pro will just keep on doing whatever it was doing (guiding, and auto-run too). Once you eventually reconnect you can continue on like nothing happened.
Ok, so I was going to get 2 power cables to power both my camera and asi pro, you're telling me I can simplify that to one and use the AIR PRO to power the cooler?
Hey Peter! I’m trying to figure out a solution to power the ASIair Pro via USB. Do you know if the old ZWO 12V-5V DC Converter will work? If not, any other solutions? Thanks!
If its 12v/5amp it should work as long as the plug matches (I think it's 5mm jack). In fact, any old adapter you have lying around that matches these specs should work fine as well. I think everyone has a box of old power adapters collected over the years that might yield what you need, Just read the specs on the adpater.
Since you can control the camera temperature, you could create dark frames anytime and just keep them as a permanent record for the next time you shoot, rather than having to keep making new darks each time?
Is this an overkill just for the polar alignment? I neither have a dedicated astrocamera, nor do autoguiding right now - I shoot with a mirrorless camera and occasionally do longer focal lengths.
I THINK it has an output for a shutter release. So you wouldn’t be able to use it to store or view the images right? But you could guide and set your shutter speed/ intervals and all that. I think.
@@bostronomy That just hit me when I read your comment about not being able to see the images as they are being taken if you used a DSLR. I bought a used T3i thinking it was compatible with the ASIair. It says so on the ZWO website. :/
@@dlg521 yes I have a 6D Mark II and now that I have my ASI Air Pro, I can confirm that it will definitely work to store and view your images in real time. It’s freakin fantastic.
You can, they sell an adapter that will allow you to power the ASIAir Pro from a wall outlet. This should be what you're looking for (but I would double-check with ZWO directly): agenaastro.com/zwo-12v-dc-adapter-for-cooled-camera-us.html
ok when I tried swithcing on the asi air after launching the app I get essentially the same result, with the difference that now is says Current Version 4.35. But it still has a green check for "firmware transferred but red check "":installing firmware failed" So I'm stuck.
No, the SkyGuider Pro cannot turn into a go-to mount unfortunately. The ASIAir Pro can coordinate with SkySafari (another app) and tell your go-to mount to move to an object you select. Once I eventually get a go-to mount I'll create some tutorials that show how to do that.
@@PeterZelinka I think what we need is a self-contained unit like SkyGuider pro, but that does have go-to as well. Cause once you get outside of this nifty mount seems you get the whole big mount, power, etc., that i'm trying to avoid.
@@CountCarbsNotCals I couldn't agree more! Hopefully one of these companies will invent something like that soon! Although that go-to feature does require a lot of power, so I would think any future device like that would need an external battery supply.
Hope you can make a small video for guys like me, who have just normal photographic cameras and lens, and want to jump into astro and maybe some DSA also with Canon 5D Mk3, Canon 100-400L zoom, iOptorn SkyGuider, ZAO Mini Guide Scope with ZWO ASI120mm S, and ASI Air. Would really appreciate it.

They are done very well and saved me a lot of time trying to search all the You Tube videos. Most of which aren’t set up the same. Good luck!
ok, after the install failed I kept the app open but switched back from the internet connection to the asi-air wifi connection, hit "retry", and this time it started to install but got stuck at 47%. Will try again.
Peter Zelinka, yes it works fine on my large iPad, which has 2.4 and 5 ghz wi-fi. It does not work well on an older iPad. Want to use Canon & Nikon DSLR with both my Pro units (traded in my first units).
For now I'm just focusing on monochrome. Next month I'll be getting back into Milky Way though with my new Nikon D780. I'm in a dark sky though, so no filters
Why not connect the ASIAIR to your home network in stead of running it in HotSpot mode. This way you can watch TV while watching things progress outside.
Usually I use the ASIAir out in the wilderness, but I do have the opportunity to use it on my backporch now. I'll have to give that a try, thanks for the idea!
@@PeterZelinka I just wanted to chime in here. The ASIAir does not act as a wifi-client, only as a hotspot. It also uses a static IP-address for the Wifi of 10.0.0.1, wether or not it's a /24 is not obvious but I would assume so. For the LAN port it seems it might do DHCP so it would get assigned an IP from your LAN, and in the app there's a option to specify a IP to connect to. So unless you do some modification of the wifi settings on the OS, ie: putting the SD-card in your pc and editing the settings, you won't be able to use the ASIAir as a client on your own wifi network. But you know, getting a 50ft ethernet cable to your yard is probably easier than fixing that unless you know what you are doing. Thanks for the video, great as always. Disclaimer: I don't own a ASIAir pro myself (sadly waiting for it just like everybody else). I am a network engineer and a linux user (used to be admin) since 1998 so that's my technical background to all this. And i installed the asiair app on my phone and checked what it tried to connect too by default and 10.0.0.1 is the hardcoded IP it expects to find a ASIAir PRO on.

Thanks Peter , wondering , i have a Pegasus pocket box as well , how do you connect them ? do i not need the Ppb ? should the camera show up when the asiair is turned on ? mine does not show up, thank you as always great video and even better explanation (for us rookies) thanks again
To be honest I'm not sure, I don't have any experience with the Pegasus products.
I bought ASI 294 Mc Pro. What is your opinion please?
Hello Peter, 3 questions and 2 comments:
1- What is the maximum amperage for each DC output jacks?
Is the mount power able to be run via the ASIAIR DC? Or is the mount being powered separately?
Peter...I am confused...You state you plug12 volt power adapter into the ASIair Pro...and then you say you should power the ASIair Pro with the 5.5 cable...after already stating you should use the 12 Volt adapter...Help and yes I am a Newbie Thank you
Possibly you are stating That you should use the 5.5. cable because you have the old version...and I have the New Version ASIair Pro...and I should use the 12 v 2amp adapter...I will use the 12-volt 2amp adapter to be on the safe side...I do have the 5.5 cable but I will not use this cable unless I hear differently from you Thank you again for all that you do...
That's helps my knowledge 250%
The editor pad will accept faster times here so e.g. for my zwo 178mc I use 40 microsecond bias times and the AsiAir will accept that.
thanks to show that, it was very helpfull and interesting
Thanks so much for this helpful video Peter I liked it.
Thanks for the video if you loose the wifi connection between your smart phone and asi pro.. Will it continue to work?
Yes, in my experience the ASIAir Pro will just keep on doing whatever it was doing (guiding, and auto-run too). Once you eventually reconnect you can continue on like nothing happened.
Excellent job!
Very helpful and informative. I'm sold!
I knew you were a pretty cool guy, but seeing the System Shocked 2 icon on your desktop got you a subscribe.
Nice video sir!
Ok, so I was going to get 2 power cables to power both my camera and asi pro, you're telling me I can simplify that to one and use the AIR PRO to power the cooler?
Have you tried it with a DSLR?
got mine today.....yeahhh! Thx for this vid Peter!
Please be careful with how much ampage those 12v DC outputs can provide vs how much ampage your feeding it. It can quickly become incumbered.
Great instructional video - as always!
it's seems it's literally a purpose-built raspberry pi. that's awesome.
What do you put in for "Guide Scope" on the initial setup screen if you are using an off-axis guider?
Does this work the same way with a DSLR?
Great video as always, thanks man.
Since you can control the camera temperature, you could create dark frames anytime and just keep them as a permanent record for the next time you shoot, rather than having to keep making new darks each time?
Exactly!
Can I use my NIKON D3400 with this ASIAir Pro?
Still waiting on mine to ship. So many clouds right now though. Haven’t had a clear night in weeks and none predicted. :-(
Where is it shipping from and what is the eta they said? Thanks in advance!
Is this an overkill just for the polar alignment? I neither have a dedicated astrocamera, nor do autoguiding right now - I shoot with a mirrorless camera and occasionally do longer focal lengths.
Yeah, I'd only recommend this if you plan to do a lot of deep space astrophotography at 400mm+
Does it work with a dobsonian motorised mount?
Nice info. I wonder how this would work if you used a DSLR as your camera.
A very informative video. Thank you.
Hello, please tell me, should asiair pro heat up? The usb memory card also gets very hot. maybe this is normal for such a device?
Can you plug the AsiAir Pro into an outlet? I shoot from my pool deck and don't need a battery, unless you are telling me I can't power it otherwise.
You can, they sell an adapter that will allow you to power the ASIAir Pro from a wall outlet.
This should be what you're looking for (but I would double-check with ZWO directly):
agenaastro.com/zwo-12v-dc-adapter-for-cooled-camera-us.html
@@PeterZelinka I will check with them. Thank you for responding.
ok when I tried swithcing on the asi air after launching the app I get essentially the same result, with the difference that now is says Current Version 4.35. But it still has a green check for "firmware transferred but red check "":installing firmware failed" So I'm stuck.
Is the ASIAIR Pro only compatible with ZWO guide cameras? Or can any guide camera be used?
I'm actually not sure. I don't have any other brands to test out unfortunately
Peter can the ASIAIR Pro tell the Skyguider Pro to locate and goto objects ( and it will slew to those objects). Or is this just manual?
I cover that in a lot of my older videos and my courses on my website. You've got everything you need for some great photos!
Hi Ramesh, I have a Canon 60 D, Canon 100-400mm lens and the Star Adventurer tracker with no experience in astrophotography. I bought Peter’s course and they helped get me up and running.
May i ask where you bought this from? I want to get it with the dovetail piece included. I hope it was not extra...
Jonathan Nguyen dovetail is included wherever you get it from
Thank´s Peter! Great video!
I’m assuming that the ISAair operates with it’s own WiFi so you don’t need to have a network to connect with? Am I correct in assuming that?
Correct, it will generate its own WiFi network. You can connect to it with your smartphone, even if you're out in the wilderness.
Peter Zelinka, yes it works fine on my large iPad, which has 2.4 and 5 ghz wi-fi. It does not work well on an older iPad. Want to use Canon & Nikon DSLR with both my Pro units (traded in my first units).
Can I power my CGEM mount from the Air? It's the same power as the Air - 12v.
I believe so, but I don't have a CGEM mount to verify that.
Have you considered the L enhance Optolong filter or are you exclusively monochrome now?
Amazing video. Thank you
Nice video, great device !
Do you need the filter wheel?
Good video on this ASIAIR. Bummer that it is (and has been) impossible to get! Was supposed to be available in mid February here in Australia, then mid March, but I won't hold my breath. Patience....
R u still waiting?
@@Wub892 No ASAIR Pro as yet. No store seems to have them in stock in Australia
Gudday. It might be worth giving Keith Williams a call at Binocentral - Joondalup WA (041-447-9483). I bought my ASIair upgrade back in March (just prior to the NZ Lockdown). Good luck.
@@charlespeters9626 G'day Charles. Just checked BinoCentral and nup, don't have any stock. You must've struck a lucky moment. But there is another shop in NSW where they have the Pro for $499 !! Don't know how they do it 100 bucks cheaper (also saw they had the ZWO 1600mm Pro 100 bucks cheaper than anywhere else). I have left my email address there for notification when they get stocks of the Pro.
@@birreboi Have you tried Alli Express, Star Pal out door shop has them at the moment for $401-38 + $9-39 postage, mine should be here in the next few days.
Zwo sells a converter for that thing. Can't that be used

Peter, the 12v power cord you purchased (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0746GPQH3/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00) is apparently no longer available.
But I spent quite a bit of time this morning looking for an alternative and this one on Amazon seems to fit the bill. Though it comes with a 10A fuse. Just need to unscrew the cap and swap out the 10A fuse with same size 5A fuse.

I've watched the video several times but I'm not getting what went wrong with plugging the ASI Air Pro onto the DC over the cigarette lighter port?
Cigarette lighter probably doesn't provide sufficient amperage to power a Raspberry Pi (which is all this is).
I heard one of the models had issues. Im assuming the non-pro version was buggy but i dont remember if others said if the Pro version still needed to be ironed out. I really wanna buy one of these soon so i can stay indoors and eliminate the laptop? Tha ks in advance for anyone who can give me input right now.
I have both the original and the new Pro. I never had any problems with the original versions (beyond the occasional dropped wifi connection, which still can happen with the Pro)
Yess! Finally the video I've been waiting for
