"I only do that because you guys are irresponsible, I can't trust you to do simple stuff. Like show up for a mission. AND NOT EAT POISON!" - Raphael, 2020
Is cool how they put this little scenes where leo takes the leadership naturally through out the series, making clear that he is a better leader but just doesn't care. Love this serie so much.
I think it more so highlights the strengths and weaknesses they have as leaders. For Raph he’s straightforward and is always responsible with taking charge of the team while also being the straight man of the group keeping things together. Though he can crack under pressure despite his go with the flow attitude is when Leo steps in that gives hope to the team giving them the push they need and while a lil wild has shown his plans have worked well in the series. His weakness though is he’s a very distracted person and can lose sight on some things aswell as being not really serious about the missions as he’s the type to just enjoy life. The show clearly makes a lot of parallels between the two like mirrors and I think that’s neat, they both are good leaders imo and are still growing.
@@guillermosantos3278 I agree. See, to me, Leo as a leader leads more because of responsibility and like, almost, it's his job, y'know? His duty. But with Raph I feel like he leads more out of a want to protect his family not as a sibling but the responsibility of being an older sibling/head of the family, which I actually think I like more? And it's true to his character in past iterations too, his biggest flaw is that he cares too much about his family and cares too much in general that he would a) put them above the mission b) question himself when they get hurt, but it's that kind of care that makes for a better leader than Leo's usual 'for the greater good' kind of leadership imo.

It is like Splinter once said in the 2007 movie. He always believed in Raphael being a great leader, but in the other series Raph is more like a hothead and loses his temper to often so he needed Leo as a backup.
Actually they all take turns in being reasonable and being goofballs in different ways. And that is one aspects of the show that I like, because the show does not regulate Mikey to being primary one to fullfill that role.
Fact: Apparently the Rise creators wanted Raph to stay the Leader but Nickelodeon forced them to switch to Leo because of stupid "Status Quo" and "Marketing" reasons. I think thats why the switch always rubbed me the wrong way, because it was a forced decision just to get more money and not something that was really wanted. I'm hoping that if Netflix returns the show they give the writers the creative freedom that Nick denied them and let them make Raph Leader again like they wished, or at least Co-Leaders with Leo to compromise since I did genuinely love Leo's character arc in the movie 🙏
It was an interesting decision to make Raph the leader. Not a bad decision but definitely different. Since Raph, in the shows, has always been hotheaded, brash, and even mean for no reason, it was a nice twist to see a version where his outbursts come from a very realistic place. That being the frustration of being responsible for three people who aren’t taking their work seriously and fearing for their safety. As well as the pressure he puts on himself to succeed.
I never thought Raph being the leader was that hard for him 😕 ? good thing Leo's the leader and he can stop being the leader now and I think that's a good thing in my opinion 🤷

I kinda like it. Had the show made it that far I would have loved to see Leo develop into a proper leader. I think tactically speaking he's smart enough but he lacks motivation. It would have been a fun ride to watch him struggle with more responsibility.
I think that's kinda the point. There are little scenes and nuances throughout the show where Leo's leadership skills are apparent. It's all how they grow into their roles, and out of respectively.
He's the leader because hes the older brother and raph acts like one too unlike the angry raph from 2012. But there was some instances where he acts like a leader, but leo still has that great level of planning ahead in that episode with splinter.
