Any tips to help make a contactor last longer?

I can manually (w/a screwdriver) get the contactor to engage (& then the ac starts)...if the blower motor (& or transformer) is bad, will this prevent the AC from starting (even if I manually engage the contactor)?

kelly klund if you can manually engage the contractor and get it to come on, but it does not come on with a call for cooling it is only due to a lack of signal or 24v. This could be due to a bad transformer or wire from the board, but not due to a bad blower motor or fan motor. Hope this helps!

I have a contactor for a planer that when I got it it just buzzed and would not close. If I manually pushed it closed the motor started no problem. I picked it apart and cleaned the magnet surfaces so now it closes, but the motor won't run instead. What could be the problem?

Could this (faulty one) cause a compressor to overheat thus causing the unit (a/c) to shut off?

What about ohming out the coil? What should the ohms be on a good contractor?

    • @rgirod4164

Normally the contactor coil should read between 10 & 20 ohms, to be within tolerances.

I thought the resistance should be between 5 and 20.

Myth. You should take care about how you look and prepare working area if possible to not get soaked with oil/products etc. You should wash your hands frequently and use cream barrier and PPE. Keep your standards high to minimise risks, depends where you are working. Dirty engineer doesn't mean jack shit in my eyes. Seen too many lazy ones covered toe to head just to use it as a proof of skills. Btw, i Know you were joking, just felt like I say this as it's makes people tilted to face the reliaty.
