I own a Throttle Box for the times I want a more MESA sound out of my amp, a Marshall DSL 40. I don't know if it's just not the best pairing but it seems I have to completely dime the MESA pedal to get that Recto tone that I want vs the higher OD channels the amp gives me by itself, but it can get really "woofy" sounding in the process. The OD2 channel gets really saturated like a MESA, but just lacks the Rectifier's tone as one would expect. Putting the Box on the orange channel, helped out some with the "woofy" sound. I also tried the pedal in the efx loop and nah. I think it sounds much better in the front with a compression pedal on the amp's clean channel. It definitely had a better Recto sound running it through my solid state amp. Any thoughts here? Would it better to turn up the gain on the amp and turn down the gain on the pedal? I noticed on a downtuned guitar, the Box's sound got a lot stronger. I rarely go below Drop C, but still. Thanks for making this video. I was also considering a 5150 pedal, but probably won't get it. Nothing against it, just personal preference in sound.
well 1st off ones a distortion pedal & the other isnt. so of course theyre not going to be very comparable really. I have the ThrottleBox w/ EQ so no need for a Super OD @ all. its a beast but if you want a more true comparison you shouldve used the Mesa Boogie Flux 5.
Owned the Triple Rectifier with 4 /12 matching slant! The Orange Channel Boosted with a Tube screamer is My holy grail tone! I’ve own just about every Recto Box there is and still can’t find one I’m happy with or satisfied enough to My ears. Plug-ins and sims do it pretty well as I’m sure the new TONEX Boogie Pack does very well. Any suggestions for a recto stomp ?
I like the mesa more. But yeah I blend a Friedman small box pedal with my mesa rectoverb 25 . It’s the best of both worlds. What amp did you run these pedals thru ?
EVH has the definition and sustain. Plus a really well constructed noise gate.
There is no need for the BOSS SD-1 at all.
EVH can do the job on its own.

The Mesa Throttlebox is the closest stomp I've used so far.
